  • perfect tempo. I hate when pianists play ragtime fast.

  • Well, after I read the conversation before - please permit me simply to say:

"Thank you for posting this beautiful version of "Paragon Rag."

    With compliments

  • you forgot to crack your knuckles.

  • one of the best versions I have ever heard of Scott Joplin

  • I believe he is a reincarnation of Joplin himself.

  • Nailed it.. wow.

  • Joplin is a real genius .

  • I can never play the second part of this song :(

  • @toadsEATbugs It is quite a hard section!

  • sweeeeett lawdy mama, i do declare, that's some good piany playing.

  • Great version - thanks

  • to Neatod: IDK if you comment is inspired by ignorance or just plain, bigatory humor, but if you do your reasearch, Ragtime music was created by African American. So do not be suprised when you see anyone of color, doing something artistic!

  • @ragtimejohn get over yourself

  • @ragtimejohn

    Kindly spare us the racisim.

  • @Thunkful2

    Spare you the racism!?

    are you ignorant!?

I'm saying that Joplin was black, Ragtime come's from blacks! I'm Black!

I was protesting against the Racist comments of "Neatod" or whoever that Bigots name is. So I petition you to refrain from ignorant accusations.

  • @ragtimejohn

When will you get over racial bigotry and realize that pigment is irrelevant. We are human beings. Your comment is illogical. You may as well say X person had blue eyes, X music comes from blue eyed person. I have blue eyes. I don't care a flip how much pigment you have. And your pigment doesn't make you connected to Joplin. How about blood type? Are you both type O? If my blood type = Joplins, who is more related? It is all racist baloney. Stop thinking in pigment & race.

  • @Thunkful2 first of all learn to spell Balogna correctly. It is completely relevant, seeing that my gene line links more to Joplin and all past African Americans more closely then any other ethnicity, we are all humans obviously but creed, culture, and ethnicity holds heavy relivence aswell.

  • @ragtimejohn Baloney!

First of all, learn to start sentences with capital letters.

And when will you learn that you don't connect sentences with a comma. That is called "comma splice" in English class. Also you left out a comma before "but." Then you used a singular verb, "holds," for a plural compound subject.

But such comments, IMHO, are uncooth. We are not writing English essays here. What kind of spelling is "relivence" and "aswell"?

Let's drop the racism & the nonsense.

  • Merriam-Webster dictionary lists baloney as a variant of balogna. & I will spell it balogna when I start saying ba-LOG-na.

    "2ba·lo·ney noun \bə-ˈlō-nē\

: pretentious nonsense : bunkum —often used as a generalized expression of disagreement."

    Go argue with Webster.

Racism is baloney, any way you slice it.

    Give it up.

  • @Thunkful2 Also the need to attribute the founding of musical styles to the African American when it is indeed their own creation is very important given the fact that much of our music has been stolen in the past and attributed to whites. It's tickles me how much "race" is no longer relevent to some modern whites, or what ever you are, but all throught history it was so important that we were segregated oppressed and persecuted on the basis of the very fact of our pigmented skin.

  • What do u mean, attribute a musical style to "THE AFRICAN AMERICAN"? U don't realize how racist you are. Now if Joplin were left-handed, wud u attribute the rag to left-handed persons? Or suppose he cud not role his tongue -- wud u attribute the rag to non-tongue-rollers? "our music" racist.

Do u want white persons to go back to racism to match your continued racism? Do u want to see White Police associations, White Caucus, White Fire-fighters association, National Assn for the Advance of WP?

  • When were YOU segregated & persecuted for pigment? Are you one of those who claims special privileges for ur pigment? Segregation was a great evil. It was supposed to be replaced by Integration; but oh no; no sooner than segregation was got rid of, but it was reinstituted under the name of multi-culturalism & it was really back to segregation: We vs you on basis of pigment. Shud we belly-ache about how the Normans persecuted us Saxons going back to 1066? Stop ur racism.

  • @ragtimejohn Baloney. Pigment has nothing to do with it. We are all descendants of Noah. How much pigment Joplin had is irrelevant. When will you stop being racist?

  • im playin this on my violin

i sound not one bit this good :@

    LOL, nice job XD

  • I dont think thats happened since the early 20th century

  • i like ur version more than the original, nice playing

  • rofl!

  • great, i am teaching myself this peice

  • nice job!!

  • this is scott on piano???Wathever félicitation!

  • He isn't Scott Joplin :o. But he sure does sound like him :D.

  • Very nice, well done. Very Joshua Rifkin, a compliment if there ever was one.

  • dang nice man. this is the first time i seen a brother really play ragtime in this time (2009) i thought i was the only minority that played piano

  • five stars! i'm working on this tune now. it's not the most difficult rag of joplin is it?

  • Fats Waller tunes are great! I really want to learn "'Taint Nobody's Bizz-ness if I Do" You can get MIDI's of his songs at John Ferrell's Stride piano site (Google it).

  • Beautiful job. Thank you!

  • I know what you mean, although just for a little history on ragtime, it became popular in 1890. I believe paragon rag was written in 1909. The fat guy you said you imagined made me think of Tom Turpin who was one of the first ragtime composers ever. Listen to "Harlem Rag", one of his popular ones. The other fat guy I thought of was Fats Waller, but he was way later (1920s and 30s)

  • @TrancerB7 And of course by the time of Waller, ragtime had evolved into stride piano.

  • Bravo! Stability, perfect tempo. Magnificent performance!

  • Too bad Scott Joplin was merely ten years old in the 1870's. At most.

  • This is one of my favorite Joplin Rags myself. I used to be able to play it. The second strain of the piece is the hardest in my opinion.

  • Great performance.

  • I've just watched the film Brewster's Millions and it made me look up this tune and i found it.

  • Bravo! That's the best version of Paragon on Youtube!

  • Make a jubilliant atmosphere!

  • Brilliantly played, especially the tempo.

  • and the crisp cool tone of the Yamaha suit it well too.

  • Pleasant tempo and relaxed, lilting style... it sounds the real Ragtime. Looking forward to your next, of course.

  • A snippet of this was played in the hotel party section in Richard Pryor's Brewster's Millions.

  • I love this rag for its simplicity yet bold sound, keep up the good work!

  • nice man, i like it, i'm learning this song too, i love it so much

  • well done, glad someone finally put this up instead of the typical Entertainer or Maple Leaf. cheers!

  • I don't think I've ever eard of this Joplin piece before, and I thought I was a fan of his! Thank you for showing me another of his pieces, played as always perfectly!

  • If I remember hearing a sheet music collector right, this is the rarest of all Joplin rags that were published in sheet music. It's not rare now, having been reproduced in a few books, but it's certainly up there with other Joplin rags like Leola, Country Club and Eugenia which are played rarely.

  • Thats interesting. I have a collection of joplin tunes, but they arent copies of the original scores. Its a repulication of just the rags, (excluding Silver Swan Rag).

  • Well Played. Can You Post Elite Syncopations?

  • Well, Mr. Latibes, I think this is your best rag yet. Awesome!! The second theme is one of my favorite 60 seconds of music of just about anything in the world!! I love this rag. Thanks!!!!
