  • F!@# Y USSR

  • The R7 rocket has 32 engines running when it blasts off. The central booster has 4 main engines and 4 small engines for attitude control, each external booster has 4 mains and 2 smalls

  • Allan, that's just the engine beginning to ignite. Fuel enters the chamber by gravity feed first, as you are seeing. Then this turns the turbine blades and hydrogen peroxide is pumped into a steam chamber that begins to power the fuel pump. The flame intense and concentrated after it reaches full throttle.

  • Why is it when I see the russian launch vehicles, the flames seem fluttering where the apollo engines thrusts are so concentrated... I gues soyuz has many (16?) engines that produces far less power than the j1 and j3's..

  • This video is NOT any of the Luna launches. At 0:12, note the canard panels near the top of the vehicle - these are for the Soyuz Launch Escape System.
