Sam Elliot was so cool in this movie. He's one of those actors where women want to be w/ him, and men want to be him. Did he ever do the 'beef,it's what's for dinner' ads? Sounds like the same voice.
"Huckleberry" can be a noun or an adjective. As a noun, it typical means "the right person for the job" or "a person in the right place at the right time." As an adjective, it has a somewhat similar meaning. For example, the expression "huckleberry friend." I don't understand how anyone could think he's saying "hucklerbearer."
lol......ITS.. HUCKLEBERRY..... AND DOWN here in the south... when we were little..there is a bush that grows these little, purple berries... poisonous to eat...but a great tool. .... as a blood stain.....when you are playing army .....
why do people say hucklebearer? for once and for all holiday says "I'm your huckleberry" the ones who misunderstand must be partially deaf or just inattentive.

part of superb acting is making you feel like the character (Val Kilmer does a flawless job at that.) But Michael Biehn reciprocates that feeling with superb acting of his own, let's not forget him too. Both of these actors give the feeling of great tension in that scene. One of my favorite movies of all time.
I get goosebumps every time I watch this scene. To me great acting is when the actor makes you want to be that character... well Val Kilmer made me want to be Doc Holliday... His BEst perfrormance
The guy in the blue shirt on the far right, from about 2:07 to 2:15 is John Corbett, who was at this time also in the TV show Northern Exposure. I performed with my reggae band at a Seattle night club Corbett owned in those days. I remember John telling me he was thrilled to be working on this movie!

@damtigerish Its actually Huckel Bearer, as in a Pall Bearer. See the handles on casket are called a Huckle. So the person who carries them use to be called a Huckel Bearer. Heres a little extra info i found
“Hucklebearer” was a term commonly used in the 19th century in the southeast U.S. (where Doc Holliday was born and raised) as we now use the term “pallbearer.”

Another of my favorite lines from this movie is when Turkey Creek Jack Johnson asks Doc why he is even out helping Wyatt Earp whe he is so sick and should be in bed. Doc replies,"Wyatt Earp is my friend". Jack says,"Hell, I got lots a friends". Doc says,"I don't".

sorry, i am watching this and it unbelievable to me that a guy would wear a hat like that. it is ridiculous even. under what circumstances does he say, "Say when"? when his friend asks him to go to a dungeons and dragons meeting? i seriously doubt he is a tough guy. i seriously also doubt that he uses the line "whenever it's appropriate" ...as it really never is appropriate all that often. i used it once last year...it's about good for once a year...that is all. sorry, i just think the bf dumb.

Well if he was looking for a some one to shoot and he was yelling arnt any of you idiots man enough it would sort of make sense for doc to say I'm your idiot and then kill him
WRONG, you are dead fucking wrong. If you were a real Tombstone fan like the rest of us you would have looked these thinks up. It's "I'm YOUR", as in I'm you paul bearer.(As gearhead said a month ago).
Ya he says "Huckleberry", its from the story of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Fin. Huck was Tom's best friend always down to do whatever Tom wanted. So he says "Im your Huckleberry" meaning he is game for the fight.
Nice job! That is one of my many favorite parts.. I love the whole film. You can not beat the dialog of this movie. There are so many great lines! They just keep comin at ya! "Say when."... LOL.
"Johnny was about to get it. I think Doc was about to finish his ass right then and there. "
You're right. He has his pistol tucked behind his back! "Say when" indeed. Didn't he tell him to "rest in peace" earlier in the film, though in Latin? Great movie.
It's actually "I'm your huckle bearer" as I learned when visiting Tombstone. A huckle is the handle on the casket and the one that holds it during a funeral procession is the bearer...
It's not "huckle bearer". That's just shit people make up when they don't know the answer to something. The saying "I'm your huckleberry" meaning "I'm the man for the job" has been around for over a hundred years.
I love it when Ringo says 'You wretched slugs!' I say that all the time irl since I first saw this movie XD Good stuff, awesome movie. Doc Holiday, even if he was a lunger, owns!
his freaking wife, josephine wrote the book they based this version on...so there... they had to add a little hollywood....not everybody can make a 6 hr movie like kevin costner and dennis quaid suck ass version of the man, doc holiday!!
actually no it hasnt been reported that he missed more often than not.if u read the facts on the shootout at the ok coral he was the 1 who did most of the shooting, caused the horses 2 jump.basically hes the only one that had 2 guns
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's actually based on more folktale than truth. Doc was not the badass they make him out to be. In fact, it's reported that he missed more often than not, and that he wasn't in nearly as many skirmishes as they would lead you to believe. Same with Wyatt. There were some real western bad boys, but they all died without song or praise.
wrong tool. many times they wouldnt report deaths and would lie about killing people when they actually did kill. get an education befor eyou spout off here moron
One of the top 10 westerns of the 20th century - no doubt. Val Kilmer stole the show as Doctor John Henry "Doc" Holliday ... perhaps his best role ever. Kurt Russell turned in a great performance as Wyatt Earp, as well.
Movie would have been over early with 3 dead Earps...good thing Holiday was in the scene. My favorite movie of all time. Ya gotta love Ringo though! It was a full cast of great actors.
As soon as I saw this movie on DVD at Wal-Mart(Da Devil! lol) I bought it quicker than a duck on a June bug. It is THE BEST Western movie I have ever seen in my life.
Val Kilmer did such a good job as Doc Holliday. I am so glad the people who made this movie picked an excellent person! "Barber...proceed sir."
I found the directors cut version on sale used at FYE *choke* (a store in the mall that sells video)*cough* good movie... had some- hold on *coughing fit* sorry about that... it had some special features & a computer game you can play cards & answer triva questions erm... kinda ironic that I had to choke watching clips of Doc Holiday -_-;; (got a piece of malted-milk ball stuck in my throat) *hack*cough* ...that's better... Doc's my fav character by the way...
Sam Elliot was so cool in this movie. He's one of those actors where women want to be w/ him, and men want to be him. Did he ever do the 'beef,it's what's for dinner' ads? Sounds like the same voice.

Then we agree to disagree. Besides, Im an unreal Tombstone Fan.

Excellent acting by Biehn. Everybody claims Val Kilmer/Doc Holliday is underrated, but Biehn/Ringo is far more underrated IMO.

Powers Boothe steals this scene.
justtony21 4 years ago
steals the scene? are you nuts. kilmer does.
Aleister77newaccount 3 years ago
Ya he says "Huckleberry", its from the story of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Fin. Huck was Tom's best friend always down to do whatever Tom wanted. So he says "Im your Huckleberry" meaning he is game for the fight.

it means i'll beat you.

Nice job! That is one of my many favorite parts.. I love the whole film. You can not beat the dialog of this movie. There are so many great lines! They just keep comin at ya! "Say when."... LOL.

That's just my game!! Val Kilmer is so cool in this movie.

It's "huckleberry". The script and subtitles for the movie both say so and the huckle bearer thing is myth.

Johnny was about to get it. I think Doc was about to finish his ass right then and there.

"Johnny was about to get it. I think Doc was about to finish his ass right then and there. "
You're right. He has his pistol tucked behind his back! "Say when" indeed. Didn't he tell him to "rest in peace" earlier in the film, though in Latin? Great movie.
roninredshade 2 years ago 2
it really is huckle bearer.. i finally got it now, its shame my entire life i say "huckleberry" but..its wrong.
xXx13cornholio13xXx 4 years ago
i still like saying huckleberry better, but that's a nice fact
Seastriker21 4 years ago
It's actually "I'm your huckle bearer" as I learned when visiting Tombstone. A huckle is the handle on the casket and the one that holds it during a funeral procession is the bearer...
ranloot 4 years ago
It's not "huckle bearer". That's just shit people make up when they don't know the answer to something. The saying "I'm your huckleberry" meaning "I'm the man for the job" has been around for over a hundred years.

"I tell ya, boys, even I'm wary of what's gonna happen once Ringo runs this outfit. God have mercy!" My fav line by Curly Bill

This comment has received too many negative votes show
It's actually based on more folktale than truth. Doc was not the badass they make him out to be. In fact, it's reported that he missed more often than not, and that he wasn't in nearly as many skirmishes as they would lead you to believe. Same with Wyatt. There were some real western bad boys, but they all died without song or praise.

One of the top 10 westerns of the 20th century - no doubt. Val Kilmer stole the show as Doctor John Henry "Doc" Holliday ... perhaps his best role ever. Kurt Russell turned in a great performance as Wyatt Earp, as well.
