How's the battery life? The sx130 has awful battery life I heard...trying to find a decent camera. Wondering if that would be that big of an issue or not.
I just watched a review on the Flip camera complaining that its all automatic and you cant do things manually, he recommended the cannon,so i went here and now this guy is saying a great things about this is that its automatic and you don't have to do much manually..... :(

Nice camera! I only use Canon and I have 3 of them. I shoot all of my vids. with my SD1100 Power Shot 8mp. I like my PowerShot so much that I bought another one. My first Canon was a Power Shot A 410 3.2mp. I still use it.

I bought this camera, but realised that when making movies the audio has a constant pitched noise in high frequences. And I ask myself: why is there the choice to have stereo, if there is a noise stereo? Why the seller tried to convince me that this sound is normal for this kind of cameras. I had a Pentax Optio E35, lower quality and lower price than the Nikon S8000 and this noise doesn't exist. The Nikon S8000 is a camera for photo, but not for videos. I really feel fooled. Thank you Nikon.

There are a lot of cameras that shot HD, there is no way on this camera to put the flash down and it's called Aperture priority not average priority. He's just trying to sell the camera, it's not a bad camera anyways, but it has a lot of downsides so it's not all good. Not a very objective video in my opinion.
I got this camera just for a concert played around with it.....meh it's okay there was another one the same price a canon too should have got that one..Vid quality isn't really hd to me..

Not to worry, though. The update to this (Canon Powershot SX210) can use optical zoom while recording video. It's about $20 more. I'm thinking of getting it.

I have a panasonic lumix dmc-tz4 and it records quicktime videos, so you won't be able to edit them on movie maker. I'm guessing the dmc-tz7 probably makes quicktime videos as well...

Ok so I want a new camera (something like this) like a REALLY REALLY good one that has a really good zoom, and is extremely HD. because I want to use it for all the concerts I go too. Because sometimes Im really far away and I want to be able to get a good zoom and get good clear pictures. any suggestions??
i'm just kidding. Well, from what I know compact digital cameras can't really capture that much of a detail when you're zooming from a long distance. Unless if you're at the middle row of a concert for instance, that could give you good recording picture.
The HD video is very good. But if you care about the still picture quality, stay away from this camera. The picture quality is really poor! The picture is always hazy. My 5 year old Sony Cybershot has a much better quality picture. I returned it and purchased the Lumix-ZS3.
should i get this camera or the powershot sd940 which has 4x zoom? cuz i really like the portability of the sd940, but i also like the sx200is's 12x zoom. is this a good tradeoff? hows the flash on the powershot sx200is? is it bright?
you CAN use the optical zoom and af while filming..just look at the movie I did..in the description you can find a step by step guide of how to do it yourself

With "chdk" you can actually (optically) zoom while filming. It's a software you put on your SD-Card, so it won't mess up your firmware in any way.. However its SX200 release is still beta.
I was also unsure whether to get the TZ7 or the SX200, which both are awesome but I picked the Canon cause I'm a fan of its manual features and little better price :)
You CANNOT use the OPTICAL ZOOM WHEN FILMING VIDEO on this camera. You can use the optical zoom BEFORE you start filming, then it stays at the distance you set. Only the DIGITAL ZOOM can be used DURING filming videos.
awesme camera, i bought it a couple of weeks ago after much research, and im truly happy. its compact, yet it offers an extraordinary zoom not available in many cameras its size. shoots HD video if you need it . you CAN use the zoom just before shooting video. anyway if youre more interested in video, then get a camcorder. its easy to use, offers enough manual options for the advanced photographer. if you dont want to carry a bulky SLR, but want to take great pics and , this is your camera.
I've had this camera for three months now, and each day I'm discovering something new about it. The important thing about this camera is that you have to thoroughly master the user manual to fully exploit all its capabilities. I posted some pics I took with this camera in a forum, and everyone thought I'd taken the pics with a DSLR ! It's of course no match for a DSLR, but then I get to take it everywhere with me, which you can't do with a DSLR. Its X12 Optical Zoom is simply awesome.Best camera

Ok I have a question...I'm in a photography class and maybe I heard my teacher wrong but I think he said for a camera with a wide angle lens you could change the settings to a telephoto setting? True? Because the wide angle lens is great except for portraits which I want to take as well. I mean can you change the lens settings to make it telephoto somehow or at least not wide angle?? No, you cannot put the flash down on this camera, it's annoying, it is up all the time when the camera is on. You cannot use OPTICAL ZOOM when shooting video, only the 4X digital zoom. Yes, I have got one of these cameras. Good for stills!!
If this is anything like the SX100, then it must be a good camera. Gonna save up for this one since my cousin dropped the one I had. It looks much sleeker and less bulky than its predecessor. Trust me, I had the SX100 which was great, the SX200 could only be better.
this canon has got MONO mic, while the Panasonic tz 7 has STEREO mics. The only serious disadvantage if youre into filming with decent sound, ie when filming a concert or buskers or yourself playing or talking etc...

No, it stays up until you switch it off again, but you can switch the flash off when in the raised position, but you can't stop it from sticking up when switched on! :)
Yes, you can push the flash down with your finger when its up. I actually like this function since I can decide if I want flash or not by simply pressing the flash down, its faster than ging through the menu. I was playing around with one at Costco and was impresed. The only think I could not find was the color swap function. Going back tomorrow to play with it a little more. Its only 319.
Im not a camera wiz myself but i really would consider getting this camera if it had a night shoot on it. Or the setting that allowes you to leave the cameras sitting somewhere the whole night and you could see the footage in the morning. I have had some mysterious displaced objects in one of my rooms and i am interested in seeing what exactly it is. So if this camera had night vision and could run all night i would definately get it.
Yeah, he obviously just read tech specs from canon's website, and automaticly assumes it'll take some "great pictures" (either assumes, or is paid to advertise).
In my opinion, this baby is definitely not bad, but there are some downsides you might want to consider with it.
IT feels good to hold in hand and is thus more stable in my (BIG) hands as compared to the LumixTZ7 which somehow was too small to sit comfortably in my broad hands.

When this cam really works is when you can get the manual adjustments, and it's actually let's you do some number of that.

Ok so I want a new camera (something like this) like a REALLY REALLY good one that has a really good zoom, and is extremely HD. because I want to use it for all the concerts I go too. Because sometimes Im really far away and I want to be able to get a good zoom and get good clear pictures. any suggestions??

i'm just kidding. Well, from what I know compact digital cameras can't really capture that much of a detail when you're zooming from a long distance. Unless if you're at the middle row of a concert for instance, that could give you good recording picture.

The HD video is very good. But if you care about the still picture quality, stay away from this camera. The picture quality is really poor! The picture is always hazy. My 5 year old Sony Cybershot has a much better quality picture. I returned it and purchased the Lumix-ZS3.

should i get this camera or the powershot sd940 which has 4x zoom? cuz i really like the portability of the sd940, but i also like the sx200is's 12x zoom. is this a good tradeoff? hows the flash on the powershot sx200is? is it bright?

bought the sx200 for a bit more than the 290 but i find its so big and ugly and it looks kinda fragile..
290 will fit in pocket easier.. hmm image quality i was told the sx200 was better. but yeah im still deciding too.

I prefer the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3. I need mine more for video and I can't use a camcorder. The ZS3 is perfect for my needs.

With "chdk" you can actually (optically) zoom while filming. It's a software you put on your SD-Card, so it won't mess up your firmware in any way.. However its SX200 release is still beta.
I was also unsure whether to get the TZ7 or the SX200, which both are awesome but I picked the Canon cause I'm a fan of its manual features and little better price :)

You CANNOT use the OPTICAL ZOOM WHEN FILMING VIDEO on this camera. You can use the optical zoom BEFORE you start filming, then it stays at the distance you set. Only the DIGITAL ZOOM can be used DURING filming videos.
Which is the question someone asked.

awesme camera, i bought it a couple of weeks ago after much research, and im truly happy. its compact, yet it offers an extraordinary zoom not available in many cameras its size. shoots HD video if you need it . you CAN use the zoom just before shooting video. anyway if youre more interested in video, then get a camcorder. its easy to use, offers enough manual options for the advanced photographer. if you dont want to carry a bulky SLR, but want to take great pics and , this is your camera.

I've had this camera for three months now, and each day I'm discovering something new about it. The important thing about this camera is that you have to thoroughly master the user manual to fully exploit all its capabilities. I posted some pics I took with this camera in a forum, and everyone thought I'd taken the pics with a DSLR ! It's of course no match for a DSLR, but then I get to take it everywhere with me, which you can't do with a DSLR. Its X12 Optical Zoom is simply awesome.Best camera

I just bought this camera and it's my 3rd Canon Powershot. It's a beast and I mean that in the best way possible. The pictures are sooo clear and vivid. So much better than my old 1100 IS and SD630.

Ok I have a question...I'm in a photography class and maybe I heard my teacher wrong but I think he said for a camera with a wide angle lens you could change the settings to a telephoto setting? True? Because the wide angle lens is great except for portraits which I want to take as well. I mean can you change the lens settings to make it telephoto somehow or at least not wide angle?? I don't know, hopefully someone understands this and can it explain it to me :p

No, you cannot put the flash down on this camera, it's annoying, it is up all the time when the camera is on. You cannot use OPTICAL ZOOM when shooting video, only the 4X digital zoom. Yes, I have got one of these cameras. Good for stills!!

TZ7 / DS3 still top of the game so. Just wish it didn't have those focus issues while zooming.
However, at least you CAN use the Optical zoom whereas Canon are still miles behind.

If this is anything like the SX100, then it must be a good camera. Gonna save up for this one since my cousin dropped the one I had. It looks much sleeker and less bulky than its predecessor. Trust me, I had the SX100 which was great, the SX200 could only be better.

this canon has got MONO mic, while the Panasonic tz 7 has STEREO mics. The only serious disadvantage if youre into filming with decent sound, ie when filming a concert or buskers or yourself playing or talking etc...

can someone help? my birthdays coming up soon and i want to ask for money to buy a camera... i would mostly be used to make youtube videos (like the ones on my channel). some cameras i had in mind are the Panasonic Lumix zs3, the canon 780 is, and the flip ultra hd or this... i just need something that takes good (hd) video and pictures and fits in my pocket

No, it stays up until you switch it off again, but you can switch the flash off when in the raised position, but you can't stop it from sticking up when switched on! :)

Yes, you can push the flash down with your finger when its up. I actually like this function since I can decide if I want flash or not by simply pressing the flash down, its faster than ging through the menu. I was playing around with one at Costco and was impresed. The only think I could not find was the color swap function. Going back tomorrow to play with it a little more. Its only 319.

Im not a camera wiz myself but i really would consider getting this camera if it had a night shoot on it. Or the setting that allowes you to leave the cameras sitting somewhere the whole night and you could see the footage in the morning. I have had some mysterious displaced objects in one of my rooms and i am interested in seeing what exactly it is. So if this camera had night vision and could run all night i would definately get it.

Yeah, he obviously just read tech specs from canon's website, and automaticly assumes it'll take some "great pictures" (either assumes, or is paid to advertise).
In my opinion, this baby is definitely not bad, but there are some downsides you might want to consider with it.

IT feels good to hold in hand and is thus more stable in my (BIG) hands as compared to the LumixTZ7 which somehow was too small to sit comfortably in my broad hands.
same problem as holding a Nokia Vs holding a BROAD blackberry.
