Hey! Whats with all the handbag comments... Clapton this, Skynyrd that...??? What planet are youpeople from? This in one of the great Blues Tracks, A classic among classics and written by and performed here by one of the greatest living Blues Legends... Stuff the others! One of a kind as was Gallagher and as is Stevie Winwood! Amen!
I love the way it is about the music and not the appearance, image, stage management and all that crap. They just play, and my, do they play... Timing of his singing is fabulous.
Great to see him live, after years of listening to the records; live is so much better.
Gosh, that's some nice guitar pickin' too! Good stuff.
It's odd that Eric Clapton seemed to adopt Cale's whole persona in the 70's. Clapton was already a mega-star. He must've had some self-loathing going on to just kind of disappear into someone else's act. Who else has done that, really? It's like if Ozzy Osbourne would say, "oh I want to be Rob Halford now." It's just weird.
@HuntersMoon73 - I don't know about self loathing- but he was trying to distance himself from his mega-star status- started with Derek and Dominoes- he didn't want his name used....JJ is part of whats known as the Tulsa sound which clearly Clapton took a liking to...
I think they have come full circle tho- the album Clapton/Cale did together a couple of years ago- Road to Escondido- is brilliant...should check it out it if you haven't already...even has Derek Trucks on it...
@RisingSon011 Well, right it's perfectly understandable when you're young & starting out to try to shape yourself to your hero's style. But when you're 30-something and have already achieved icon status yourself, it's a bit unusual to exchange your style for someone else's. I'm just sayin'.
@HuntersMoon73 Oh I agree man . Clapton always kind of got on my nerves with his lack of originality . He wants to be a singer /songwriter instead of a virtuoso. But unfortunately , Don Williams and JJ cale he ain't !
I love J J been a life long inspiration and friend musically speaking, wondered if anyone would give my new track 'My sunshine' a listen ? the link is just above its the blue sky vid x
J J Cale é puro rock'n'roll. A batida de The breeze contagia e não consigo ficar parado. O som é muito bom, não precisa de grandes efeitos. O que é bom, como o tempo fica melhor...
You Tube won't let me subscribe! quote: 'You have too many subscriptions compared to the number of your subscribers.' Well, what they missed is that music is my life, and I keep up with my 3,000+ subscriptions. In the meantime, I can't subscribe unless 'I delete some subscriptions'. Fat chance!
Best live performance by JJ & company I've heard in a good long while! Too bad 'like' is the only evaluation offered. This is going on my 'Legendary Live 2' playlist...
This song is one of my all time favourites. But this version is not the way he originally recorded it, it is nowhere near as good, Play it like it should be, don,t mess wth my memories.
Thanks...I have loved him since the early 70's. Do you have "I'd like to love you baby, but I've got another lover too" or something like that. I loved that song.
'Stole' is too harsh a word. As writer JJ probabally made more money from Eric's version's than he ever did from his own. Eric was clearly 'inspired' by JJ and imitation is a compliment.
@artrock3d Agreed. And most (if not all) other artists who are mistakenly recognized (as the originators) for their versions of Cale's songs would likely agree. Cale and his recording companies granted permission to reproduce these songs. No one stole anything - especially, another's voice.
A friend of mine recorded it about 10 years ago and lent me the tape. A version of Cocaine was also on the tape which I've also posted, just in case you or anyone else is interested.
just playing catch up on mr Cale, learnt of his misic reading eric claptons autobiography. love all the stuff off grasshopper - what was i doin missin out on such a great artist. i need more.........
