The disadvantage of these cells is that paper isn't exactly the most durable material. They wouldn't work very well on a rooftop. But you could use them as wallpaper in a room with sizable windows, for example.
@kaiserbunny132 lulz, that's like saying "but we're still mowing our lawns" or "we're still harvesting corn". Tree's are are a crop - a renewable resource... they are growing FAR faster than we're knocking them down.
Frankly, this is one of the more awesome uses of that resource and it couldn't be more "green".
@kaiserbunny132 The massacre of the Amazon rainforest is about creating farmland. They aren't harvesting all those trees for paper. If the paper demand was zero it would have no affect on the carnage going on there. In fact, most of that forest area is cleared by burning.
Paper usage is sustainable anyway; production forests are replanted and give us plenty of material for paper. The main culprit of deforestation is clearing land for agriculture. Now, reducing paper usage means reducing the amount of production forests needed, but in the grand scheme of things paper is lower on the list of priorities.
What would be AWESOME is if they could put these on the roof of cars, or on roofs of houses. Think about it - you would never have to fuel your car again, and we would drastically reduce carbon emissions.
THE FUTURE!!! soon they will print 100% efficient ones that work in the dark (yes they exist now) wrap them around phones (possibly use future nano tech to hide them for cosmetic reasons) and INFINITE POWER!!!!
Very nice, hope one day it would be available as wall paint form too, with different color shading to choose from, to paint on walls and could be hooked to a circuit to generate home electricity.
The durability is what impresses me. If they could up the amount of power, then maybe it could be printed onto cell phone cases that make them last much longer! Think about it, a cell phone that almost never needs to be recharged due to a durable casing that recharges it with solar power!

good idea. but how long do the cells last?

They could use this to power electric paper airplanes

@Mirkwoodelves
or you could polymer them to the back of lexan and screw it to the roof. it would have a nice quarter inche profile too! not bulky like panels.

Oh yeah? Say that to the amazon rainforest. Since 1970, 600,000 square kilometers gone. Thats more than four times the size of greece.

@MsShirepony An increased paper demand only adds to the problem.

@kaiserbunny132 But at least we're not poisoning the atmosphere that trees breathe.
