A friend just told me what kind of bush I have in the yard. It is an elderberry bush! Based on the words to Elton's song.....time to make some wine! Made elderberry wine...Drunk all the time.....Feeling fine on elderberry wine!.....The bottle went round....Like a woman down south
i love this song, too. but i also love "high-flying bird" which should have been made a single. "texan love song" is awesome, too. oh, what the heck! every single track off that album "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" was touched by a genius.
@MrSunnydisposition Agreed, was lucky to get to all 3 of his Southern California concerts in the last year! Elton, as long as you have a home here now wouldn't you like to add another Ca concert?
@biggers7 That movie is Arsenic and Old Lace in 1944 by Frank Capra. You should see it, very good movie actually, I used to watch it with my dad. Hope this helps you
THE "B" SIDE TO CROCODILE ROCK, STILL REMEMBER THE 45 I HAD BOUGHT IT AT TOWER RECORDS......BACK IN THE DAY...THANKS FOR POSTING...WISH THEY STILL WROTE TUNES AS GOOD AS THIS STUFF.
@frank02111 Haha...Boone's Farm Apple Wine...lol. Well, you were 10 in 1973 and I had just graduated high school in Tucson that same spring. You gotta believe....we got a LOT of girls drunk and eventually disorderly on that rotgut wine. Chicks drank it a lot. Also, "Apple Annie" remember that stuff? And an el-cheapo red wine called Spanata. My first drunken escapade was mixing Spanada with a bottle of tequila. I was violently sick for an entire weekend. I've NEVER had tequila, not a sip, since.
Great song from the days when Elton was putting out a new album every 8 or 9 months. The movie in this video is 'Arsenic and Old Lace', a true classic, starring Cary Grant and Peter Lorre.
:: Hello ColeDiamond & thank you for uploading this Elton John ditty, one of his most memorable & fun-timesy! I must say, though, I'd've never thought of the quirky 1944 Frank Capra directed & whacky black comedy screen classic, "Arsenic & Old Lace" as being associated with it. Funnily enough, it worked! Have an excellent day. Cheers! ~ (•8-D
@smartcooky99 I believe it may have been. All I can say though is I'm not sure that I understand the connection with Arsenic and Old Lace but to be sure I'm going to make sure that I watch this next time it shows up on the Turner Movie Channel. The expressions on Gregory Peck's face are priceless! And I have to know what is inside that windowbox. Either a dead body or some rifles and ammo.
my mum gave me two quid to buy a pair of DMs(see if you know what they are)....
unfortunately I went to Rox Records in the market listened to this album on the headphones and spent my money on this instead ....best two quid I ever spent :-))
one of the first albums (Don't Shoot Me...) I ever bought. I was 8, reeling from my parents' divorce. This tune is just another killer deep track from EJ
Ive loved Elton since i was like 10 yrs old, I always thought I would marry him lol so sad my dream never came true!! His music still gives me goose bumps cuz it brings back all wonderful memories. Thankyou Elton for giving us some of the best music ever. I'm so glad i grew up in the 60's/70's.
You've got to ove Davey Johnston's strong stroke around :41. How can anyone ever make music like this now a days. Elton completely captured my mind back in the 70's just like KISS.
I loved this album in high school...brings back some great memories...feeling fine on Elderberry wine...those were the days...YES those were the days...
elton john and burnie taupin would have to be up there with lennon and macka as possibly the greats of singing/songwriting in the history of modern music.
Angie, It's been a year since weve lost u. Forever in our Hearts! My Sis! Mel . This Album (see how old we are )! We knew all the songs and all the words. Happy Times.
Much like Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, Elderberry Wine is a stylistically upbeat song that is actually a lament about a life destroyed by alcoholism. From what we know about EJ's life, it is evidently a warning he didn't take personally until after great personal loss.
This is so clever! I've always liked this film so much (am the biggest Cary Grant fan ever :-)) and adore Elton John but had never heard this song! What a fab combination!! Very well done!
This B-Side to "Crocodile Rock" was VERY heavily played on FM Underground radio...so much so, that *I* thought "Elderberry" was in fact the A-Side..whilst the A-Side was touted on AM.
Needless to say, being an FM Underground aficianado...I preferred "Elderberry Wine" to the more popular A-Side offering..
An' I *still* play this UBER-MEGA-ULTRA-RAVE-FAVE on the "Piano Player" CD o'mine.. (Set to "repeat", y'know..)
ColeDiamond- this was a "gem" of a find. I was delighted when I looked up this song that you put it to a classic favorite movie of mine and you fit it together so well. Thanks!
