  • probably eltons greatest song of all tyme!

  • One of my favourite songs with one of my favourite movies. I'm happy.

  • A friend just told me what kind of bush I have in the yard. It is an elderberry bush! Based on the words to Elton's song.....time to make some wine! Made elderberry wine...Drunk all the time.....Feeling fine on elderberry wine!.....The bottle went round....Like a woman down south

Passed on from hand to hand!

  • Danny Bonaduce at 1:44. This must have been directly after The Partridge Family.

  • Great video!! Thanks for sharing :):):)

  • first heard this on the bside of crocodile rock. nice little ditty

  • This is better than any song of 2011!!!

  • It's hard to believe this song wasn't a big hit.

  • i love this song, too. but i also love "high-flying bird" which should have been made a single. "texan love song" is awesome, too. oh, what the heck! every single track off that album "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" was touched by a genius.

  • Wonderful! Loved this :)

  • This was the B side of Crocidile Rock on the 45. I knew good music when I was 10.

  • @edwardschlosser1 So did !!

  • Great song, GREAT MOVIE my favorite. Love what you did with it.

  • Great song, GREAT MOVIE my favorite. Love what you did with it.

  • I really love this video! WELL DONE :D

  • "..The Bottle went round like a women down south passed on from hand to hand"...CLASSIC!!

  • @MrSunnydisposition Agreed, was lucky to get to all 3 of his Southern California concerts in the last year! Elton, as long as you have a home here now wouldn't you like to add another Ca concert?

  • @biggers7 That movie is Arsenic and Old Lace in 1944 by Frank Capra. You should see it, very good movie actually, I used to watch it with my dad. Hope this helps you

  • THE "B" SIDE TO CROCODILE ROCK, STILL REMEMBER THE 45 I HAD BOUGHT IT AT TOWER RECORDS......BACK IN THE DAY...THANKS FOR POSTING...WISH THEY STILL WROTE TUNES AS GOOD AS THIS STUFF.

  • I rember this song my first year drinking at age 13 in 1973. One of the first time I got drunk I was drinking a qt of Boonesfarm Wine!!

  • @frank02111 Haha...Boone's Farm Apple Wine...lol. Well, you were 10 in 1973 and I had just graduated high school in Tucson that same spring. You gotta believe....we got a LOT of girls drunk and eventually disorderly on that rotgut wine. Chicks drank it a lot. Also, "Apple Annie" remember that stuff? And an el-cheapo red wine called Spanata. My first drunken escapade was mixing Spanada with a bottle of tequila. I was violently sick for an entire weekend. I've NEVER had tequila, not a sip, since.

  • I love everything about this video.

  • One great Elton John song!

  • Funny movie, back in the old days

  • this movie is amazing

  • Great song from the days when Elton was putting out a new album every 8 or 9 months. The movie in this video is 'Arsenic and Old Lace', a true classic, starring Cary Grant and Peter Lorre.

  • What a fun video!

That grinning guy in line cracks me up!

Doesn't Peter Lorre remind anyone here of Sulu aka george takei from Star Trek?!

  • absolutely brilliant vid. thanks!

  • I played Mortimer in this: Arsenic and Old Lace

  • Cary Grant "Ducked the War" !!!

  • predecessor to "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" IMO. Great song.

  • Awesome!

I've always loved Arsenc And Old Lace and your editing is perfect!

  • Yes, I think I'm going to pour myself a brandy for breakfast.

  • :: Hello ColeDiamond & thank you for uploading this Elton John ditty, one of his most memorable & fun-timesy! I must say, though, I'd've never thought of the quirky 1944 Frank Capra directed & whacky black comedy screen classic, "Arsenic & Old Lace" as being associated with it. Funnily enough, it worked! Have an excellent day. Cheers! ~ (•8-D

  • Was the the "B" side of "Crocodile Rock"?

  • @smartcooky99 I believe it may have been. All I can say though is I'm not sure that I understand the connection with Arsenic and Old Lace but to be sure I'm going to make sure that I watch this next time it shows up on the Turner Movie Channel. The expressions on Gregory Peck's face are priceless! And I have to know what is inside that windowbox. Either a dead body or some rifles and ammo.

  • @smartcooky99 Yes-still have the old 45 . I too always thought this song was VERY underated and should have been a single on its own...

  • this song is very underrated...

  • @shuffleman321 I KNOW! This is the first time I ever heard this song!!

  • Eldeberry Wine/ Crocodile Rock what a great 45 :-)

  • @trevor40 Yes! It was the best purchase for value that I ever made.

  • I think we were all in the seventy's thats our "Connective Bond"... than the 80's awesome...

  • Great bass playing in this song!!!!

  • Does anybody know the name of this movie?....i'd LOVE to know

  • Arsenic And Old Lace

  • @tuggers7

"Arsenic and Old Lace" with gorgeous Cary Grant.

  • my mum gave me two quid to buy a pair of DMs(see if you know what they are)....

unfortunately I went to Rox Records in the market listened to this album on the headphones and spent my money on this instead ....best two quid I ever spent :-))

  • This was the first Elton album (yes, I said album) I ever heard and fell in love with "Elderberry Wine"---it turned me into an Elton fan!!!!

  • "Great video, cheers mate!"

  • I think my User Name only speaks for itself when I try and articulate how much I love this song.

  • one of the first albums (Don't Shoot Me...) I ever bought. I was 8, reeling from my parents' divorce. This tune is just another killer deep track from EJ

  • Ive loved Elton since i was like 10 yrs old, I always thought I would marry him lol so sad my dream never came true!! His music still gives me goose bumps cuz it brings back all wonderful memories. Thankyou Elton for giving us some of the best music ever. I'm so glad i grew up in the 60's/70's.

  • You've got to ove Davey Johnston's strong stroke around :41. How can anyone ever make music like this now a days. Elton completely captured my mind back in the 70's just like KISS.

  • Elderberry Wine was on the flip side of Crocodile Rock- I still have the 45! Imagine that! Love EJ & his music.

  • I loved this album in high school...brings back some great memories...feeling fine on Elderberry wine...those were the days...YES those were the days...

  • I lolled when she brought out the wine again... great vid! One of Elton and Bernie's most underrated masterpieces!

  • 1972

  • elton john and burnie taupin would have to be up there with lennon and macka as possibly the greats of singing/songwriting in the history of modern music.

  • I drink Elderberry wine. It makes me HOT HOT HOT!!! Excellent for getting rid of migraines.

  • I recently heard this on the radio. Hadn't heard it before but DAMN it's a good song!

  • Angie, It's been a year since weve lost u. Forever in our Hearts! My Sis! Mel . This Album (see how old we are )! We knew all the songs and all the words. Happy Times.

  • the young elton john! incredible! coool vid

  • who ever posted this video thanks one of the best films song ever made

  • Your welcome and thanx :D

  • Much like Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, Elderberry Wine is a stylistically upbeat song that is actually a lament about a life destroyed by alcoholism. From what we know about EJ's life, it is evidently a warning he didn't take personally until after great personal loss.

  • My favorite Elton John song, by far. From my favorite album too!

  • Great video. Thanks!

  • This is so clever! I've always liked this film so much (am the biggest Cary Grant fan ever :-)) and adore Elton John but had never heard this song! What a fab combination!! Very well done!

  • this looks like a movie filled with awkward moments lol

  • finnest movie of all time

  • This B-Side to "Crocodile Rock" was VERY heavily played on FM Underground radio...so much so, that *I* thought "Elderberry" was in fact the A-Side..whilst the A-Side was touted on AM.

Needless to say, being an FM Underground aficianado...I preferred "Elderberry Wine" to the more popular A-Side offering..

An' I *still* play this UBER-MEGA-ULTRA-RAVE-FAVE on the "Piano Player" CD o'mine.. (Set to "repeat", y'know..)

    Thanx, m8...

  • Played this song out as an 11 year old in Brooklyn back in the 70s. In fact all of side-A ruled. I can still hear it, some 35 years later. Ouch.

  • Me Too :) In Brooklyn!! Rox Ya Sox Off, Don't It?!?

  • Awesome song though... bring's back so memmorie's for me I was probabably all of 10?

  • I love this song very much indeed.

  • Dont say ouch Bro, Its a great time in our lives. I have good memorie's dont you? I'ts funny though I dont miss a word on the album.

  • Do you know how funny this Carry Grant movie is,,IT IS SOOOOCOOOOl, you should watch it,,thanx colediamond

  • I remember picking eldeberries in the Cascades and making wine. My friends and I would listen to this song and have the best time!

  • ****Wow! Nice job!! I keep comming back to see it again. What an awsom combo!

  • Underrated

  • 1 of my faves by ej. thanx

  • ELTON = GOD

  • This was the flip side of Crocodile Rock. What an awesome 45 :-)

  • I was about to tell everyone the same thing. Nearly his best song this

  • Elton would be proud...

  • ColeDiamond- this was a "gem" of a find. I was delighted when I looked up this song that you put it to a classic favorite movie of mine and you fit it together so well. Thanks!

  • Thanx JadeRaqs!

  • very good job. 5 stars

  • Thanx

  • Nice job ColeDiamond! Thank you for the post.

  • Thanx & UR Welcome :D

  • loved it great video!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanx

  • A fave old movie and a fave old tune combined to make an oustanding video!! thanks for all the work that went into making the vid and an even bigger thanks for sharing it with us!

  • Thanx

  • You missed a berry, Alfredunhill.... Ollaberry is sweet like a blackberry :)

  • Love Elderberry, mulberry, blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, huckleberry, blackberry, boisenberry, bilberry, every berry but dingle...Love Elton!!

  • Always loved this tune. I adore "Don't Shoot Me..." "High-Flying Bird" is my favorite track off the album.

  • @fleetwoodmath Yes, High Flying Bird is my favourite track too, and one of Elton's very best, it would have been a huge hit if released as a single. Elderberry Wine another highlight, for sure. Elton's new album The Union has been getting rave reviews

  • Thanx, sunguar!

  • I don't think anyone realizes how much work went into this. A great video!!!

  • I have a story about this song and all the songs on Dont shoot me.... I was sitting out on my patio with a very dear friend in 2007. she brought out a tape of EJ and we put it in. I hadn't heard this song in 30 years! I had the album as a young girl and knew every song. Needless to say or as Angie would say "case in point" We sang every song from the album verbatim... Miss you my Angie

  • Well then, here is to Angie, front porches, and good times. :D

  • Love Elderberry Wine! Both the beverage and this song! Many pleasant memories associated with this album. Thanks so much for posting!

  • I remember this as the B-side of Crocodile Rock. If it were released a little later on its own, I think it would have been more popular. Not too many people know this song.

  • Yep, that's how I first heard it prior to the album, "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" was released. I remember thinking at the time that this would be the next hit on the album as some local stations were playing both sides of he 45 at the time. Alas, along came "Daniel" and this song disappeared from the play lists. Still a fun song that never got its day in the spotlight.

  • 5 star job, cole!

  • Thanx, luangu.

  • This is a very excellent song. Nostalgia. Reminds me of 1982. A very long time ago.

  • I think this is soooo coool I remember this album,,,and the movie,,,,,,,LOVE BOTH,,

  • Thanx, Zippy5eyes. Good to see another Arsenic and Elton Fan! :D

  • I've seen Arsenic and Old Lace before, but... who's the guy that shows up on 1:44?

  • That would be Spec O'Donnell - a long time Hollywood extra and bit player. The scene at 1:44 is when Mortimer and Elaine are standing in line at the Marriage License Counter. The young Asian lady Spec plans on marrying is Jean Wong.

    Hope it helps.

  • I agree as a EJ and band fan,,, Street Kids from the Rock of the Westies album would just be too good! That is a helluva tune. Dan Dare, Street Kids,, the best!! I like to crank it up when i can at about 50 watts a channel into my pioneer speakers.

  • great

  • Great song by a great band in their prime - listen to Dee Murray's bass line throughout this song amazing!!

  • Finally someone posts the original version of this awesome song.Vastly superior to anything in the last 20 years. Would also love to hear 'street kids' off of rock of the westies.

  • Great combinatoin of music and movie clips. This one put a smile on my face!

  • thanx, bwworld

  • elton is certainly showing these young Superstars of today how to sing & write great songs, he has what we call talent...

  • That he can, John ... that he can!

  • great video clip Cole... where do you live...?

    Lemmo...

  • Check my profile on my chnnel, John ;)

  • Very Cool! When we performed in in HS, I played Officer O'Hara ... I wanted Jonathan :P

  • I'm in this show now, I LOVE it awesome vid.

  • Wonderfully fun play, Wickedfeylad. Glad you enjoyed the video. You are in the show, which role are you portraying?

  • Not a big EJ fan, not my style of music, but love this video!

  • There's a trunk in the corner where there's a ... ;-)
