  • Foxes don't hunt hares, or rabbits for that matter, they just aren't fast enough. They will go down burrows for ones that are trapped or pick up leverets from their forms (nests) or make a lucky grab but by far the biggest part of a foxes diet is in fact worms & beetles & baby birds and stuff like that along with anything that is injured or trapped or just can't get away, like a sick lamb or hen in a coop. As already noted, this one definitely looks a bit sickly.

  • hare is far 2 fast for a fox

  • A fox that hunts during the day is a fox that's in trouble. He's probably weakened by a disease(note the unusual colour on his hind legs) or an injury.

  • @rutgerzat

I think thats a higly probable explanatian, and hadn't thought of that. ( I am no fox expert).

    Thanks

  • An intriguing video. Maybe the fox just wasn't in the mood. How wonderful though is Britain's wildlife heritage. And how tragic it is that there are so many in our midst who treat this heritage with such cruelty and contempt.

  • Or he realised he was to slow to overtake them...

Anyway, this was in Holland, and yes, I was fascinated watching this happening.
