  • I see Connie Chung here.

  • isn't there another version of the video that got deleted, at the beginning had the flashing lines read "1987-88 Season" On A Purple Background. Had The Announcer Saying " Come on Home to the 1987-88 Season"?

  • Existe aqui no Brasil uma vinheta como essa com o nome "Vem que é Bom pro Sbt"

  • "The Golden Girls" is the best!

  • 2:25 wasn't that clip also in the 1986 promo?

  • The Golden Girls, 227, The Cosby Show, A Different World., and so on. NBC was definitely a staple of my childhood. Now watching these shows as reruns are not the same as seeing them in their original airing.

  • I hope Bob Greenblatt with his new NBC entertainment team is able to make NBC respectable again. He was responsible for making Showtime the hit channel it is today, and is also known for making the network serious competition with HBO

  • @abehammy Greenblatt can round up the shows, but ultimately it's Ted Habert's call as to what airs or not. A point that I make because he used to run the E! network; which makes him primarily responsible for making the Kardashians famous. Just a heads up.

  • @tvnutboy Didn't Ryan Seacrest also help make the Kardashians famous since he produces and created their show?

  • @abehammy Seacrest is the Executive Producer, but in the end, they guy who runs the network still has to green light it for airplay.

  • vin scully in his old fordham days form @ 2:43

  • Malcolm, Tempestt, And Phylicia ! They Had The Huxtables In Everything In Them 80's!

  • The only thing that ruins this promo is...Jay Leno. Who calls affiliates and spreads rumors about Johnny's retirement? Jay Leno!

Im Jay Leno...I'ts O.K., Im Jay Leno.

  • The only thing that ruins this promo is...Jay Leno. Who calls affiliates and spreads rumors about Johnny's retirement? Jay Leno!

  • I don't get Howie Mandel's part in this. What was up with the letters flying through his living room?

  • @CombatSportFan At the time, Howie was on the cast of St. Elsewhere. As far as the letters, that was a reference to Wheel of Fortune, which had a daytime version that aired on NBC at that time. Notice in another Howie shot some seconds later, you see Pat and Vanna clinging to the door.

It's kind of foreshadowing when you think about the fact that he would become an NBC game show host himself some 20 years later with Deal or No Deal.

  • @TresGriffin Oh! I didn't know NBC aired the Wheel daytime version. I thought that was CBS. OK, that makes sense now. Thanks.

  • @CombatSportFan Actually, Daytime WOF did air on CBS from 1989-1991, and then went back to NBC for some months in late 91 until it ended altogether.

  • in 1988, Seven Network Australia, copied the scenes from the promo for the Let's Celebrate '88 campaign.

  • Who's that actress dancing with Malcolm Jamal Warner dancing with? Tempestt Bledsoe?Look on 0:41

  • I'm sorry, but the the 80's was the best decade ever. Think about all the great long lasting POP CULTURE icons: Michael Jackson, Empire Strikes Back, Ghostbusters, Transformers, G.I. Joe, E.T., Indiana Jones, Superman, Batman, Back to The Future, Gremlins, Eddie Murphy, Madonna, Prince, Culture Club, Wham, The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Return of the Jedi, Muppet Babies, Voltron, Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Goonies, Top Gun, Roger Rabbit, Dallas, Dynasty, I could go on and on. This was the

  • the catchiest promo jingle in the history of utter mankind

  • wait why is leno on here? i thought he didn't host the tonight show until 1992?

  • Leno was the Monday host of The Tonight Show from 1987 to 1992.

  • @VaultMasterDBT That's one thing that Jay and Dave should both be doing now to stop any of this garbage from happening again. Instead of airing reruns when they have off days, get guest hosts to fill in and find one that works well, gets acquainted with the crowd, and is familiar. That's why Jay was picked in 1992 because the executives knew he already had a soft spot with the Tonight Show audience so why it was an easy choice. Not so easy when there is no one being groomed for the next series.

  • Justine Bateman looks beautiful in this promo. How great was Family Ties

  • In Brazil SBT TV made a similar promo with the same music. But, in Portuguese, of course.

    Funny to check it out.

  • whos the ventriloquist at 0:35?

  • @abehammy that is Richard Moll

  • jeez, i wish i were alive for this era of television, it seems so much better than the nbc of today. the only good shows that nbc has now are community, the office, 30 rock and sometimes snl

  • I want one of those snazzy looking nbc chair michael j fox is sitting on

  • The death of NBC saw the death in television. NBC was television! Most of whats on our screens today is absolute garbage. Lets hope someone can resurrect the dead peacock and brings back a primetime schedule that reminds what entertainment really is, which very few shows today do.

  • Who's is the Jewish looking woman in the car at 1:55? She looks very familiar...

  • maybe they thought that it would be cool

  • This promo inspiration to SBT in 1990, in promo 'Vem que é bom'

  • 2:01- glad to see Pat and Vanna in there. Where are Jim and Chuck?

  • @MrLogoman007 Would have loved to see them and Alex Too! (he was just hosting Concentration by then)

  • Fantastic!! I spotted alot of the people some of my favorite shows back then...this is very catchy! The networks should take a cue from these great promos they used to air - there is nothing quite like them!!! :-)

    Thanks for uploading!

  • @AllisonTheSNLGuru Sadly they won't because TV has changed in the past 20 years (mostly for the worse) and viewers are probably too "sophisticated" for something that optimistic

  • Yeah, it is a shame that TV has changed so much, and with it the celebrities who won't live it up for the cameras aside from their scripted scenes on their respective shows.

Viewers are WAY too sophisticated these days, doesn't mean we were dumb 20 years ago. It was, however, a whole other time and place back then. Sounds bad, huh?

  • @AllisonTheSNLGuru Yeah that's why my TV is collecting Dust. I can't stand to watch the overcorporatized uninspired rehashed and overrated crap. fort all the technology we have you think we'd have better and more innovative stuff on TV now

and they need to stop remaking everything.

  • Remakes aren't always the greatest idea. It's just not necessary.

  • OMG I am SO glad you uploaded this. ^^

  • Seven Network copied the promo for Let's Celebrate '88 in 1988.

  • In Australia it was Let's Celebrate '88 in 1988.

  • why did they opt for ALF to say "YEAH!" over the woman's voice at the end. Just weird.

  • The cgi was so relevant, even in the late '80s

  • awesome now i've got it stuck in my head

  • awesome commercial

  • SBT in Brazil made a version of this promo, just for curiosity:

    /watch?v=IWi07YUs2NQ

In Brazil, it's called Vem Que É Bom, from 1990.

  • NBC was gold from 1984 until the rest of the decade. No one could touch it!

  • well I think the visuals were compelling and liked how they segueyed from one scene to the next but the music is forgettable if not banal

especially compared to say NBC Let's All Be There...

  • Yes that is Howie Mandel. He was on St. Elsewhere at that time.

  • Who is the actress at 1:08, 1:34 and 2:09?

  • She sure doesn't look like she is enjoying herself too much.

  • The actress was Stepfanie Kramer. You remember her as DeeDee McCall from Hunter.

  • @Davidt33 Many a man my age found out what a childhood crush was because her between the ages of five and ten.

  • I said the same thing to myself....Beleive that's the woman from Spencer for Hire, no?

  • Hunter i mean

  • Fantastic! I hear they don't make promos like this any more in America, but over here in Britain they NEVER made them like this...

  • This was the same year that Jackee Harry, dropped her last name. I think that made her much cooler and sexier, than with the last name.

Also big 80's hair is always cool on just about any celebrity from around that era, and Jackee is no exception.

  • Dan Fielding catches an eyeful of Sophia! Priceless!

  • NO it wasn't! All NBC's shows shined greatly during 1987-1988....making it a reason to watch TV! Loved Facts of Life (BEST SHOW ON EARTH!), Highway To Heaven, 227, Amen, The Golden Girls, Night Court, Amen, ALF, LA Law, Cheers, The Cosby Show...heck I'd go out a lot less if these great shows were on! The late 80s ruled for TV and not just for NBC...Perfect Strangers, The Young and the Restless, The Price Is Right, Mr. Belvedere, shall I go on?

  • I said it was one of the worst promos. Not that the shows were'nt good. READ, something and understand it before you make an accusation without merit.

  • Bailey, I think 'xxxx' read very carefully, thank you. When you say the promo is badly done, that pretty much reflects on the stars themselves as well as the network. I don't know what you find inferior about it, but the production vaules are top notch and the premise is fun and lively. It really taps into the character of the actors and who they're known for portraying. If this had actually turned out to be a bad promo, i'm sure NBC's viewership would have suffered as a result.

  • It's just my opinion...I thought the shows were good...I'm sorry that Porno wasn't on TV during the 80s for you...

  • Porno?

  • Yeah, NBC ruled television in the '80s thanks to Cosby and again in the '90s with Friends, Seinfeld, and ER.

Now in the 2000s it's CBS (CSI, 60 Minutes, Two and a Half Men), ABC (Dancing With The Stars), and Fox (American Idol, House) that's ruling TV; NBC is dead last and they need more than just Jay Leno at 10:00 to save it!

  • @johnnyafairbanks NBC executives need to watch stuff like these old promos. Tartikoff was a genius! now that man knew how to run a network!

  • @johnnyafairbanks BTW IMHO I prefered the Sunny optimistic 80s NBC to the 90s NBC (dunno NBC circas 1995 seemed more "arrogant proud" rather than confident proud as they were in 1987 ) outside of Seinfeld, and maybe some Frasier I did not like most of their 90s Primetime shows, but that's another story for another day

  • @johnnyafairbanks even USA network has better stuff than NBC

  • @rangerdave1973 Just an FYI...NBC owns USA network

  • @irrit8tion duh i almost forgot....well maybe they need to put some of those USA shows on NBC

  • @johnnyafairbanks Relax, man. Jay got back the 11:35 slot.

  • @johnnyafairbanks Television in general is dead now.

  • @johnnyafairbanks Do not forget the Today Show, Nightly News and Meet The Press.

  • It's kinda weird to see red smoke completely covering a Smurf. You don't see that everyday.

  • I'm just messing with you.

  • 1:35-1:39, 2:00-2:03, 2:33-2:34 Is that Fred Travelena?

  • No, that would be Howie Mandel. He was on St. Elsewhere at the time.

  • No that's Howie Mandel

  • Why did they have that real peacock in there? I know it's NBC, but a real peacock?

I thought I would never see James Bond on an NBC promo. (Of course, I knew that Pierce Brosnan was on "Remington Steele".)

  • I thought it was pretty cool.

  • RIP Estelle Getty

  • I didn't realize Estelle Getty passed away until now...and it's been two months! I am bi, but you think they gay community would mention it since she was all for gays and lesbians...RIP Estelle!

  • I have to agree. That's foul if they didn't. I am also gay and I mentioned it on myspace page.

  • Thanks for bringing it back!

  • 20 years, and Deidre Hall still looks fabulous.

  • Jackee Harry provided her own vocals in this promo!

  • I was wondering where the previous copy went, which had the well-known NBC/Disney announcer declaring "Come on Home to the 1987-88 season!" at the beginning. (That same poster also added localized Come Home '87 promos from KYW in Philly). Of course, the quality Tom posts them in here always take the cake!

  • Who's the NBC/Disney announcer's name, anybody..?

  • I know Brian Cummings did the announcing for Walt Disney Home Video back in the 80's and 90's.

  • I know that. But thanks anyway.

  • I've always wondered that myself! I've tried doing research, but there's no information on the internet about this guy whatsoever. I just call him Mr. X.

  • Howie Mandel with a full head of HAIR??

    Now, that's OLD.

  • Thanks for this higher quality video!
