  • I love these guys. Their video's always remind me of Madness. They had the same goofy sense of humor. I love the combination of musical genius and vaudevillian videos. So talented and light on their musical feet.

  • Definitely must be from the Conflicting Emotions recording sessions. The engineering of the drum dynamics on that were very different from the Time and Tide sound, and this fits CE perfectly.

  • Probably replace Bon Voyage with this, since that song is pretty slow, and Next Exit as the last song on the album would still fit in with the "Tim going out" theme.

As for Kia Kaha, replace any one of the songs in the Neil "Shitrilogy" for it.

  • I've always been really antsy about this and Kia Kaha (Message to My Girl b-side) being on See Ya 'Round, considering both songs contain Tim in an otherwise pointedly Tim-less album.

Just imagine if they took two of the crappier songs off Conflicting Emotions, and replaced them with Kia Kaha and Next Exit that album would be twice as good (or, uhh... only half as bad) as it already is.

  • What CD can I find this song on? Any way I can find it? I know virtually every split enz song there is but I've never heard this before.

  • @bluejeckett : this song was added as a bonus track to 2006's reissue of "See Ya Round"

(originally released as a non-album single in Australia in 1983)

  • Even as the underdog of the Split Enz song -> This song was so out of character but loveable. It's just a shame they aint driving V8 Holdens in th sky...lol!!! I'm getting off that at the next exit...'whatcha ya gonna do about it'...lol@@@

  • Very Harry Potter. In an Zephyr?

  • Could have be stuck on the Escape album. Great song!!

  • Oh thank you thank you! I love this! Tim is sooooo CUTE!

  • Oops! I meant to say the Time & Tide album, not Waiata.

  • Great video, thanks for sharing. Hope you don't mind my video response. Delete it if it bugs you. :)

  • Pity this song wasn't included on the North American release of Waiata.

  • I don't recall it being on Spellbound either.

  • Spellbound (compilation album) was supposed a North American release--that was meant for the U.K. release. Actually, there were TWO Spellbound records (one for Australia & New Zealand, and one for the British).

The Australian & New Zealand release of Spellbound contained "Next Exit" as it was on Time & Tide.

  • Great single!

And just to clarify it's Noel Crombie riding shotgun next to Neil. :)

  • lovely song.nice

  • ha neils driving the green car with what looks like phil judd taking shotgun. poor tim by himself

  • Wow...never heard this!! Thanks so much for letting me a rare gem!!..love it..

  • One of my favorite Enz tunes! Forgot there was a video for this!

  • Comment removed

  • This is an great gem on my Video compilation of Split Enz videos. Only wish to find a CD/MP3 of this cut. This is tight!!!!

  • I noticed the beginning of "Working Up An Appetite" at the end of this video. It's one of my favorites of the Enz. Any chance of getting it uploaded?

  • I don't think there was a video for Working Up An Appetite. I think it was just the interlude music between videos on the original tape.

  • im getting off at the next exit. he he

  • The version of "Next Exit" that features on the digitally re-mastered edition of "See Ya 'Round" is shorter (3:15) than the standard version (3:40). You can find the standard version on the rarities album "Rear Enz".

  • This song-perhaps more than any other Tim has ever sung-illustrates what an AMAZING voice he used to have:TREMENDOUS range and feeling!

  • For me this is there best ever song, i love it

  • In fact this was released in 1983 as a single only... between the 'time and tide' and 'conflicting emotions' albums. It can be found in the 'see ya round' digitally re-mixed album

  • Great video, why is that short snippet of "Working Up an Appetite" at the end?

  • OMG NEIL LOOKS SOO ADOREABLE

    I love it.

  • Neil always looks adorable.

    <3

  • Yeaaaaah true that (Y).

  • Yet ANOTHER music video that did not end up on their 2002 DVD collection. Ugh!!!

  • This one was on the first DVD collection of Split Enz greatest hits music videos and has always been a special favourite of mine. It was released on single only.

  • Whachu gonna do boutit?

  • Awesome video. Absolutely love this song. Split Enz rulz!

  • Awesome

  • They did two versons - this one, recorded in the early 80s, and the first version, recorded in 1979. That version is only on vinyl - its on the 'Hits and Myths Vol 2' compilation.

I reckon its better than this version, but this one is ok

  • I've never heard that first version, but I believe it was part of their 1978 unreleased "Luton Tapes"...

Actually there is a lot of tracks unseen on the albums that the ENZ recorded within that time which deserves to be released...

  • yes it was. and now the luton tapes are available for purchase...

  • maybe after another album could have beens tims next exit? very catchy song!

  • was i the only one who brought this single

  • This is a great song!

  • haha yeah paul hester joined in the lattte split enz times :]

that confused me because i was like huh he's not in this :)

  • This is actually one of the rarest Split Enz songs. It is only now available as a bonus track on the See Ya Round re-issue.

  • I'm surprised they attached it to See Ya Round (1984), as this track was actually recorded between 1982's Time and Tide and 1983's Conflicting Emotions...

  • Yes. It is on the latest remaster series of the original albums that was released only a couple of years back.

  • It was on a collection called Maiden Australia with songs

by groups like Mental As Anything on it. If my memory isn't playing tricks on me. The video was also on Much Music in Canada from time to time.

  • Yes, this was a single that came out in the band's latter stages. I remember seeing this in the shops with a picture cover. I wish I had have brought a copy!!

  • Actually Paul isn't in that one. He joined a few years later.

  • Great to see Paul Hester again in happier times. Rest in peace, mate.

  • Now, it is very surprising that didn't appear on any album!

The video was incredibly random though!

  • what great memories. It almost want to make me cry

  • I love how Neil and the other guys are in the other car. Great video--great band!!!

  • Yes! symbolic really

  • i lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveee this sonnggg :]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] its my favourite split enz song ever!!!!
