I love these guys. Their video's always remind me of Madness. They had the same goofy sense of humor. I love the combination of musical genius and vaudevillian videos. So talented and light on their musical feet.
Definitely must be from the Conflicting Emotions recording sessions. The engineering of the drum dynamics on that were very different from the Time and Tide sound, and this fits CE perfectly.
Probably replace Bon Voyage with this, since that song is pretty slow, and Next Exit as the last song on the album would still fit in with the "Tim going out" theme.
As for Kia Kaha, replace any one of the songs in the Neil "Shitrilogy" for it.
I've always been really antsy about this and Kia Kaha (Message to My Girl b-side) being on See Ya 'Round, considering both songs contain Tim in an otherwise pointedly Tim-less album.
Just imagine if they took two of the crappier songs off Conflicting Emotions, and replaced them with Kia Kaha and Next Exit that album would be twice as good (or, uhh... only half as bad) as it already is.
Even as the underdog of the Split Enz song -> This song was so out of character but loveable. It's just a shame they aint driving V8 Holdens in th sky...lol!!! I'm getting off that at the next exit...'whatcha ya gonna do about it'...lol@@@
Spellbound (compilation album) was supposed a North American release--that was meant for the U.K. release. Actually, there were TWO Spellbound records (one for Australia & New Zealand, and one for the British).
The Australian & New Zealand release of Spellbound contained "Next Exit" as it was on Time & Tide.
The version of "Next Exit" that features on the digitally re-mastered edition of "See Ya 'Round" is shorter (3:15) than the standard version (3:40). You can find the standard version on the rarities album "Rear Enz".
In fact this was released in 1983 as a single only... between the 'time and tide' and 'conflicting emotions' albums. It can be found in the 'see ya round' digitally re-mixed album
This one was on the first DVD collection of Split Enz greatest hits music videos and has always been a special favourite of mine. It was released on single only.
They did two versons - this one, recorded in the early 80s, and the first version, recorded in 1979. That version is only on vinyl - its on the 'Hits and Myths Vol 2' compilation.
I reckon its better than this version, but this one is ok
I'm surprised they attached it to See Ya Round (1984), as this track was actually recorded between 1982's Time and Tide and 1983's Conflicting Emotions...

What CD can I find this song on? Any way I can find it? I know virtually every split enz song there is but I've never heard this before.

@bluejeckett : this song was added as a bonus track to 2006's reissue of "See Ya Round"
(originally released as a non-album single in Australia in 1983)

I noticed the beginning of "Working Up An Appetite" at the end of this video. It's one of my favorites of the Enz. Any chance of getting it uploaded?
frogsforsusan 3 years ago
I don't think there was a video for Working Up An Appetite. I think it was just the interlude music between videos on the original tape.

This song-perhaps more than any other Tim has ever sung-illustrates what an AMAZING voice he used to have:TREMENDOUS range and feeling!

I've never heard that first version, but I believe it was part of their 1978 unreleased "Luton Tapes"...
Actually there is a lot of tracks unseen on the albums that the ENZ recorded within that time which deserves to be released...

yes it was. and now the luton tapes are available for purchase...

Yes. It is on the latest remaster series of the original albums that was released only a couple of years back.
vinylman4533 4 years ago
It was on a collection called Maiden Australia with songs
by groups like Mental As Anything on it. If my memory isn't playing tricks on me. The video was also on Much Music in Canada from time to time.
