They fit in the amulet slot of the inventory. There is also a variation which fits in the 'tail' slot. That works great for a human type character since humans don't normally have tails. For a cat, not so good as it will dock their tail.
I have used the tail-type wings occasionally to give him wings while wearing a robe etc (which hides the amulet), but YMMV.
Really I'm wearing them more to effect an angel/demon/incubus look than for any real practical reason.
You might want to check out the book "Souls, Black and White" in the game. The text is also available on the UESP website if you're just casually viewing.
The weird bit is that you can resurrect creatures after their souls have been removed. Granted, I'm generally cheating to do that, but the Staff of Worms can have similar results.
Well, sucking their souls out also counts as killing them... It did it in four takes - the first was OK but too dark, the next two they realised what I was doing and the final take is the one I used.
Basically, there's a 50% chance that the stable hands will just sit back and watch while you calmly and systematically kill all the horses one by one. The rest of the time they will flip out and summon the guards on you.
But yeah, since horses respawn, they make a really handy source of souls.
It should work. One of my favourite videos ("20k watermelons and dremora shield") was shot in Vista. From what I've read just now, you may need to run it as admin, set compatibility to XP and turn off all the HDR/bloom options in the game.
Hah! This is hilarious. :] My favourite part was the Hopping Slaughterfish, though poor legionnaire's attempts to get out of the water were close second.
Hahaha! xD So funny video! xD xD

The wings are basically a funny-shaped amulet. I enchant them with 'Fortify Magicka'.
Now, if only I can figure out a way of giving him headwings too...

So if you can steal a soul from a fish it means fish have souls. Weird theology in this game...

Okay, I read that book online, and I think I get what the game is saying. It's still weird, though...

whats the deal whit the wings... i mean... can you use them to fly or are they just for the apprentice

They're just decorative, really. Though since they take the inventory position of an amulet, I enchanted them as well.

In the first take, when I spoke to the stable lass afterwards, her first line was "Please continue!"
