@whitebus2012 the innaccuracy is implying that had the MSU player not hit the puck, the goal could have counted. Simply put, the stick contact with the puck is irrelevant, bc When the net came off, the puck was not completely across the line. As for the OT goal vs UNO I completely agree. When the puck becomes visible from the end zone angle, you can see white between the puck and the goal line. That is indisputable evidence of a goal. GO BLUE!

@WEINBAUER Actually, I heard that part of the reason for this game was to see how much interest it could generate, with the potential of the Wings hosting the Winter Classic in the Big House. I'm sure it was a small part of the reason for this game, but a part nonetheless. Can you imagine getting 110k+ for a Wings game? That would be damn epic...

I was at this event and it absolutely gave me chills to finally see the pagentry of a game at the Big House in person. They did this right all the way and btw, how bout those SWEET throwback Jerseys!

Great atmosphere there. I am not too knowledgeable on hockey rules - should that MSU goal @ 6:00 have counted if the U of M goalie knocked the net out of place? That seemed weak. Great win in a historic game though.

@jcgamer107 also the fact that the state player hit the puck might have made it no goal. If it would have been left to roll into where the goal HAD been, like it was about to, it would have possibly been allowed. However, he hit the puck after the goal was off, which is an action taken after the dislodging, so it can't be implied that it was going in anyway. They can't say "oh it was, though" because no matter how close, he still hit it. 20 feet or 2 inches, same thing.

@shadytnu24 ...except that it is accurate. Where would the line be drawn? If someone had the puck in the slot and shot it where the net was, it'd be the same thing. You could say the goalie wouldn't have saved it, but technically it's an action after the net is dislodged.

Same reason why a puck has to be clearly seen in the net on a review even if physics says it has to be a goal: exactly the reason UNO is so pissed at us right now (the puck was in, and it was on the screen, no more whining)

@jcgamer107 Let me clarify a little bit as to what @conservativeco is saying...The goal cannot count regardless of the circumstances of how the net came off the moorings unless it was completely across the goal line before the net came off. Where clear intent comes in, is had the referees ruled that the net was intentionally dislodged to prevent a goal, the Wolverines would have been assessed a 2:00 penalty for delay of game.

Myself and 3 friends were lucky enough to get tickets to this game, and made the drive down from Toronto. What a game! The atmosphere was awesome, and the B2 Stealth fly-over after the anthem was the icing on the cake for us.

On the goal that was (correctly) disallowed for MSU, is the player allowed in college hockey to make contact with the puck below the crossbar, but then swing his stick way up well above the crossbar in one continuous motion? In reference to the MSU player who got the puck up high in the air behind the UM goalie.
