I'm 62, the first time I even heard of the "old" Jimmy Rogers, was with Merle Haggards tribute to him in about 67. Have loved his singing ever since. Reminds me of my dad and grandpa.
Old Gene wasn't known for showing a lot of emotion in his singing, but you can hear it in this tribute to his good friend and musical idol, the "Singing Brakeman" Jimmie Rodgers. A beautiful song, which out-sold all other country records for 1933.
Now I want to brush my teeth everytime I hear this song.
