  • "solid state disk" i raged a little

  • This is the defrag: /watch?v=-T6IAHWMd2I

  • windows 7 automatically defrags the system unless the user turns it off

  • Oh, and Ashampoo WinOptimizer works very well, too.

  • I remember when Chris used to make good videos like this. instead of star wars lego shit

  • nerd

  • Problem solved, buy an SSD. But I don't have the money for one myself, sadly.

  • yep defrag its a mod for q3 !! q3 4 ever =)

  • you suck lol. l2 comp

  • defrag is a mod for quake 3 >: (

  • @KittenIgnition Word. So definetly guy is talking shit hehehe !

  • @KittenIgnition and defrag disc. only one mod not means this.

  • @KittenIgnition No, the mod for Q3A is DeFRaG not defrag.

  • am I the only one who came here from quake3 defrag movie? :D

p.s. admin, you sucks. defraging is defragmenting, files are placed fragmented on disk, in order to make em load faster this utility puts all fragments in one place so not to force computer spin all the disk to find all parts of the file :D

  • @jeez0o nope i came here from quake 3 to

  • i hope your computer has a hard drive LOL

  • I don't think Linux OS or any of its variants need to be defragged.

  • ubntu don't have to defrag? why is that?

  • @ashanudayanga In Windows, when you store files to the hard drive, your computer will save the files at the first available space available and store the rest at the next available spot if there isn't enough room for the whole file. Linux (e.g. Ubuntu) and Unix will search for an area on the hard drive large enough to hold the whole file without fragmenting it. Windows is like an teenager who has to be constantly reminded to clean their room.

  • Why is this guy such an asshole?

  • lol

  • @br3ntor

He's an asshole to people who don't know shit about computers / think he's offending them because they have a FRAGMENTED sense of humour/self esteem.

  • does defrag erase anything on your hard drive?

  • no just rearranges it. it make ur computer alot faster

  • @MayraGCB

Nothing is deleted. They are just rearranged. It speeds up your computer because your computer knows where everything is stored and organized for fastest acquisition.

Consider picturing yourself in your bedroom. You're looking for a pair of shoes. Your room is a mess, so you organize everything and clean up the place (also an ex. of Disk Cleanup). You find your shoes. From then on you should know where they are exactly, without having to look around your room next time you want them.

  • defraggler is great

  • Used advanced defrag...another tools.

  • I dont have to defrag im using ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS :D

  • I have a question about defragging. Whenever I defrag I lose quite a lot of memory from my hard drive probably like 28 GB everytime I defrag. Is that suppose to happen?

  • Why do you recommend diskeeper? How is it better than the other defragmenters?

  • because it defrags with no hit, and it does it completely in the backround. taking away the need to defrag, and the pc manages itself basically.

  • He recommends it because you have to pay for it lol, jk

  • I use either IObit Smart Defrag, or even Ultimate Defrag on my clients PC's...

  • Another Utility I apply on my clients PC's are "Ultimate Defrag",and or, "IObit smart Defrag"

  • I defrag using O&O defrag 10 Pro, I use it about every week...works great. System Mechanic Pro also allows RAM recovery & Defrag...My system runs 100% always.

  • i never knew u had to defrag ever other month. i chcked and it wouldnt let me defrag. i dont have enough space. i thought i had like 20gbs left but i only have 5 gbs left. i have a 40gb hardrive. PLS HELP how can ifree that space to defrag????? and is it safe to defrag without 15% of free data???

  • use fix-it utlities to free up space

  • you can use defraggler, it will let you still defrag, but sometimes defragmenting with low space will make you lose space...

  • i have never defragged my disk since i got my qosmio toshiba X-305

..gaming pc..at first it was like hefty! hefty! hefty!

    and now its wimpy!wimpy!wimpy!

  • and thats copyright! copyright! copyright!

  • SSH life is much less than SATA.

I will stick with SATA hard disk until SSH is fully developed.

  • i meant 1q3er5 he sed hes hot! so i replyed with wtf?!? are u gay or summin?sorry if this offends you chris but it wasn't aimed at u :)

  • Yes acthually, I am literally always defragmenting my hard-drive and it totally works.

  • if u downloaded the trial how do u get the windows defrag back? pls answer

  • ok im' Defraging right now but how do you Upgrade your RAM? can you make a vid on that please?

  • I found myself just reading all the pointless chatting instead of paying full attention to what he was saying...

  • me too

  • guys its on youtube everywhere look it up on youtube just type how to add ram

  • he's hot!

  • omg this is the first typical nerd iv seen xD !!!

  • derfagmentation do not speed up your pc if you have multitasking os (all except DOS).

  • does it speed up your PC?

  • yes, it makes it much faster if you have never done it before. it allows your computer to find a file faster and load it faster. i recommend auglogics disk defrag

  • also, get Ccleaner, it rox

  • No.

  • AusLogics Disk Defrag is made of win. Really fast to. Anyways, To all you asking about how long it would take to defrag a 500GB or 1TB (1,000GB or 1,024GB) hard drive, It really all depends. If you have been keeping track of your files and stuff like that. It also depends on how much space you have used. A rough estimate for an average user would probably be 1 hour with a third party program. And probably 1 week with Windows Standard Defrag.

  • Once a week??????? Holy crap.

  • great information

    TxNana

  • My recommendations (under XP):

    1. Split your hard drive into a system partition for Windows and your programs (15-20 GB should be OK), and use the rest of the space for your personal data.

    2. For your system partition, let the prefetcher do the job. It will not defragment all files, however, files rarely used are a negligible problem if they remain fragmented.

    3. You do not need to defragment your data partition. With files as big as hundreds of MBs, fragmentation has no measureable impact.

  • Vista defrags automatically.

  • OS X does it in the background.

  • Os x doesn't allow the files to become fragmented to begin with. Linux does the same thing!

  • I've never defragged lol. I really should... I was going to after I upgraded my memory... and that was over 7 months ago. Time for a defrag lol.

  • LOL be prepared to not use your computer for a few days while it defrags

  • Yeah, back when I had 256 MB RAM... it took all day and never finished so I decided to upgrade RAM and do it after... and now its been 7 months lol.

  • How long would it take for a 500GB harddrive and a 1000GB harddrive?

  • It depends how fragmented it is, but I would guess a _lot_ of time (if it was very fragmented) :-)

  • its EXTREMELY fagmented..i mean i extract my files to my desktop and cut and paste them into program files...

i even installed and uninstalled NERO express 24-38 times...not to mention the time i was comparing TRILLIAN and MSN

  • I don't use WinXPPro-SP2 integrated defragmenter, but in PerfectDisk 8 it would probably defragment in a whole day :)

  • wow!

not only does it defrag so fast but you relpied in 17 seconds!!! got msn>?

  • Hehe, I got Thunderbird mail-client + a lavabit dot com-(POP3)account.

  • About MSN-IM, sorry, I don't have that (I had it some time ago).

  • Defragmenting in Vista is automatic.

But if you want to get to the defragmentation program, just click the start button and type "defrag". That's a much easier way to get to it than the way Chris described.

  • I like PerfectDisk (it´s a proprietary defragmenting software for MS Windows). I should defrag more often (atleast once/month), especially when deleting, downloading and moving around files..

  • BTW: I don't defrag that often because I usually have my harddrives pretty full which isn't that good when degfragmenting. The drive should be about 15% free before defragmenting.

  • O&O Defrag !

  • Thx again Chris !

  • When I defrag it takes about 8 - 9 hours, for a 120GB hard-drive, why is this?

  • wow thats a long time im not lieing to you very long time maybe there too much junk or its really un organized i bet idk thats my guess my takes about 30 min and i have a 320gb harddrive lawl

  • Wow! Well when I got my laptop, bout 4months ago, it was brand new! It has two partitions in the HD, C: and D:, well I did C: and it took about 3 hours, and I started D:, after 4hours it was 10% done, I didnt understand this, diskeeper sounds good, but dont want to pay all that :(

  • do u use the windows defrager of some other software? i use perfectdisk 8.0 but i want to c how diskeeper is judging buy chris its pretty good so yea xD

  • it also deepends on how fast your harddrive is =\

  • I defrag weekly on wensday after work

  • Adman, you an idiot!
