  • After RUSH the greatest band ALIVE!!!!

  • THAT is how to jam out at a night show!

  • Dave kills it on Lettermen's show! I hope he invites Dave and the band back to play one of his new epics.

  • Is it me or has Dave's hair receded LESS as he's got older? lol.

  • @bencol123 Rogain

  • nice, very nice. he is just a kid. RIP LeRoi

  • I apologize to myself for having forgotten about how beautiful, moving the music of DMB is lately.

  • Song of the day... #41

  • @hankhenderson song of the decade.

  • Still Epic

  • These guys are some of the best musicians on the planet.

  • Poor saxophonist...I'll miss him. The three black men of the Dave Matthews Band were like the concept of the ego.

Boyd's the id, all friggen insane and impulsive.

Carter is the ego, balancing things out

Leroi was the superego, being all relaxed and logical

  • @Delroxorz how much weed do you smoke?

  • @Delroxorz how much weed do you smoke?

  • @jottoman131 Enough to make me understand Psychology more than you; in other words none.

  • No sabía que había muerto LeRoi Moore woooow! estoy en shock... y hasta el dia de hoy me entero de esto :(

  • Ahh the Early Years!! #41 is Destined to be a Classic!! R.I.P Roi-

  • Boyd is so absolutely awesome in this! What a dude!!!

  • I cannot believe he wimped out and sang in the low key on the first chorus

  • Probably was pretty stoned on this shot so played it safe...

  • The best DMB song ever!

  • best song ever!

    best band ever!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Without a doubt, the greatest band in the world.

I love them so much. (:

    Their so fucking amazing.

    DMB!!! <333

  • so strange hearing a live version of this song that clocks in under 5 minutes...the outro sounds so darn truncated...

  • yeah i was expectin 15-20min and thats just the outro lol preach DMB for life

  • Wow I got chills at 3:32

  • Me too. :]

  • Where are they from???

  • Originally from Virginia, Dave is South African.

  • Dave was born in South Africa (Johannesburg), lived there for 2 years, moved to New York, England, then New York again, then Africa again, left because of the military draft after high school because of his pacifism to New York a last time, then Virginia where the band stuff began.

    I'm not a stalker I'm synthesising Wikipedia. :]

  • LeRoi was a boss

  • i love the way you sing.....

    its jst awesome

  • shit is so great

  • today marks 10 yrs of me following DMB!

  • freak

  • Leroi was the best....Jeff is good but without Leroi there is definately something missing. Stage left

  • leroi the man!

  • To compare DMB with Pearl Jam is the same that compares a little puppy with a coyote. DMB is much more music than Pearl Jamn

  • they should have done the introoo!!!!

  • Rumor is that they were planning on playing Too Much (The current single at the time) but switched last minute to play #41. A standard live #41 is like 9+ minutes long, they had to cut a lot from the song to fit it in the ~4 minutes that musical acts are given on these types of shows.

  • yep, the live version is much longer, and in this programs almost every song must be shorted =(

    anyway amazing version!! =)

  • I was 17 in my dorm room at college when I first watched this. They look so different and I'm definitely different, but it's the music that's the same. I love them with all of my heart.

  • you're so rigth ! its simply amazing how people change and their music still the same, thats why their so unique and we keep listenig to their music! *

  • pitter pat

  • I love how he changes the sound of a song so there is like a hundred verisons. Never the same exact sound every time he performs it. FUCK he is a musical god.

  • Comment removed

  • 3:32 on gives me the chills. When LeRoi holds out that note, something inside my soul tingles.

  • omg i know!

  • You got the DANKEEE NUGS??? Prolly not ya schwag ass fool.

  • @hchs18 me too man. fellings.

  • @hchs18 me too man! fellings! R.I.P. LeRoi.

  • yeah yogilife4ever keep the dumb comments to a minimum please.

  • Perfect song! Love this!!!

  • wonderful performance!

  • One of my favorites if not my most...however this short version doesnt do the song justice...either way it still rocks, cause it Dave!

  • I love how dave loves dave :)

  • yogilife4ever r u kidding me u mean Boyd Tinsley not "the violinst"

  • lol he didnt know the name....chill

  • that man never misses a note, guitar or signing. even under pressure he's just straight up professional, never messes up.

  • I didn't realize that violin was such a great arm workout.

  • I wanted to stay..I wanted to play>>I wanted tooooo Love youuuuuu~~the intensity is so f'ing sexy :)

  • sucks that they cut out alot of the song

  • This song is stupid beautiful... definitivo solo para oídos finos...

  • The most beautiful part is when dave & violist smile,,,,

  • Hey reptile stud,I see Your proud Non- conformists I now its tough living on societies fringe. Please join the 'cause' and take your little wee-wee babymaker over to lemmings, then raise your offspring with your solid democratic values! try to skip welfare and stay to raise your offspring with your solid values, the Democrats need even more diversity! • haha wat the fuck are you talking about davidgarrick u wanna speak some english

  • Reading you sex story below made me think of the ASSet you could do for the good of the Democratic party Simply give uo on reptiles and dead animals and use lemmings...Not just spreading the wealth but your mentality...just think of the possibilities for your cause and desires

  • He started off with a shaky voice. Then eventually he got into it. Sounds great.

  • Great perfomance, really great!!!

  • RIP Leroi

  • im in love with those eyebrowssssssss

  • Yeah ROI!!!

  • my fave song

  • they are most definitly the best band to see live.... you may like them, and think their tickets are too exspensive, but man... after you see them live... Its a total mind blowing experience... Its better than any other concert i had been too... And it was an honor to see LeRoi one last time 6/7/08...RIP

  • Dave has hair!

  • Always great to see DMB...but that was so rushed for TV...in real life - they improv this song like time is on their side.

  • how i would like to be there..in the studio..

  • Oh to be in the 90's again...

  • Dave is God

  • ooo yea

  • When was this?

  • One of his best!

  • Whoo Hoo!!! 100th txt comment!

    This song is awesome!

  • Dave can play..and don't get me wrong I wanna have his children, but Tim Reynolds is definetly the magician behind the quitar..Dave does the lyrics and this happens to be the best song ever written.

  • Tim Reynolds... not in this video and not included in the writing of this song... he only appears as a guest. Not a member.

  • haha your comment make me laugh. I agree about the rest though.

  • he looks like he's in love with this guitar and it's much better then the best lover for him!

wish that more guys could play and sing as good as he do...

  • Yeah but a little smarter than Stev-o.

  • gotcha, yeaa he does look like stev-o

  • Dave looks young, when was this?

  • crash came out 1996..must be 1996/7 PR tour..

he looks like stev-o from jackass!! :D:D

  • Dave is a good guitarist, but not the way you would expect. He doesn't go into crazy guitar solos, but so what? You can be a good guitarist without doing solos. He has to stretch his fingers so far for the chords in #41, its crazy. Hes a very good rhythm guitarist.

  • In my opinion, Dave Matthews is the best guitarist ever. Greater than Hendrix himself, but they're practically incomparible since they're completely different types of players, but I love Dave Matthews guitar. I love Dave Matthews Band more than any other band ever.

  • dont compare dave matthews to hendrix you douche, i like dave but come on. grow up

  • You can't use "grow up" and "douche" in the same sentence. Then I'm not the one who has to grow up. In my opinion, he is better. I also wrote "but they're practically incomparible" but you still had to bitch.

  • No I didn't since you were dumb enough to write an "a" instead of "A" after the period. Fucking Shrek.

  • in this version he's not stretching his fingers at all.. the live or extended normnal version he gotta stretch'em for the intro..i can do it as well..thats not the problem..but be creative like dave is..write songs like this and play'em with a band like DMB! being good is not about soli or technique or some gay shit like that! WRITE THAT STUFF!!!

  • loko de mais

  • This is still my favorite DMB song after all these years. It's like a fine wine, it keeps getting better the more I listen to it, as time goes by

  • As a guitar player, i can tell you not many people can duplicate his style. Dave has pretty intricate strumming patterns. and his chords can sometimes be finger twisters.

  • sure by he can't solo close to as good as a lot of guitarists, but he uses some wack chords. Plus his style is so good, Lie in our graves has a really good guitar part. I tinkhe's a great guitarist

  • one of the best performances on letterman ever

  • the greatest singer EVER EVER ,, and he's sooooooooo cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Good view of Stefan for you guys trying to figure out the chorus.

  • He's totally underrated.

  • wow forget the intro i guess...so smooth so good

  • boyd looks hilarious during his solo

  • Take note of the cord changes, how he handled the violin solo and the sax, god, holding one note for five bars and then the simple solo.

Never seen it done before and impressive.

    Enjoy!

  • sucha wierd voice...his hand doesn't stop strumming tho...good guitarist and band

  • what year was this. Man I love Dave, just an amazing person!

  • That is some great drumming right there.

  • few people can put out so much emotion in a song... everytime he sings a song its like hes singing it for the first time...

  • If you think about it, he signs everything like is for the last time.

  • he's not famous because of his guitar/vocal talents. he's a great song writer. along with bob dylan who didnt have the greatest voice, and wasnt a great guitar player is one of the most famous musicians of our time. so how do you explain that??

  • bob dylan is just as mediocre....they just connect on some level that can only be described as genius...art is a crazy thing...you might dig it, you might not...

  • He in fact is a tremendous guitarist who is able to strum nearly anything by simply muting all the strings he does not want to play. It's uncanny what he does with his voice and guitar, and how the band clicks so well. And although I agree that his band is also super talented, you seriously underestimate Dave Matthews, especially because he is constantly churning out these incredibly beautiful, powerful, emotional, and energetic songs.

  • Dude I may not agree with the name, but although everyone else is super talented, Dave is an unbelievable song writer, and though his voice is different, it is so powerful and emotional. And you can't consider him an average joe guitar player just because he never solos and selflessly leaves that up to his band.

  • they named it dave matthews band by accident, they just needed a name to put on open mike night somewhere

  • Yeh, they were booking a gig and they didnt have a name. So they said, "just write dave matthews, and a band will show up"... So the guy wrote Dave Matthews Band...

    true story :)

  • they said write down dave matthews, and people would be surprised that it was a whole band

  • look at the sound coming out of the band as a whole, it is awesome. and the drummer plays a mean beat right at the end! (couldn't resist saying that) DM has a loverly voice imo, and is a great writer and his guitar playing first right in and aids the bands gelling and makes the sound soo good (although his guitar here did sound shit, his taylor sounds much better)

if this were the jimi hendrix experience or SRV then u could look at the front man individually, but this is the band as a whole

  • moejobe, I respect your opinion but disagree with you. For me, Dave is the 'only' talented member of the group and the reason why I like DMG. He could go solo and still have a great following.

  • Yea first of all its DMB dumbass and dave is talented but Carter Beauford, their drummer is the best drummer in the world, just thought i would throw that out there.

  • Thanks for responding on the band name (I was think Dave Matthews Group), Tehdudemonster, but there is no reason for using profanities.

  • dude, if you think that dave is the only talented member of the band then i back up everything Tehdudemonster said. you can argue that dave is the worst musician out of all of them, he is an amazing songwriter and thats why the band is named after him.

  • Thanks for responding, dymancurtis. Ok, that's all good. (Dave's still the only reason why I listen to this band, but) I respect your opinions.

  • it's actually not named after him because he writes the music. they collaborately write everything. it is named after him because it was by chance. they're first live gig together, the place put dave matthews band on the band list and it just stuck. so they kept it that way. dave has said over and over that they always write all their music together.

  • the below comment is in response to dymancurtis below

  • if you noticed it's dave matthews band, not dave matthews' band. meaning that it doesn't imply that it's HIS band, but that he's just the frontman or something. or maybe that all the songs represent him...

  • Jroubikwills is absolutely right, it's not named after him. Wasn't the band's name originally 'The Dave Matthews Band'?

On another note, I love #41, but they should have played a different song. #41 is far to freeform to be squeezed into a 4 minute slot. They played it really well, but it hurts a bit to see them cut it up like that. The intro-less start definitely threw me for a loop...

  • hey dave and his band could have just stood there and acted like they were singing and everyone would still love it

  • His name is Dave MATTHEWS.

  • This is my favorite DMB song. He is a cool guy, his favorite band is Radiohead!

  • its funny how everyone thinks they know the band...respect them for their music bc i can promise you they dont give a f*** about what everyone says about them..look at how they dress, how they play together, how they act as a band.. they are having a blast and love what they do just jam to their tunes and rock out bc they are the sh*t

  • yeah man, hes in my top five favorite drummers

  • I'm a straight guy, but I gotta say "Carter Beauford.. <3" yeah, i made the heart picture for him, so what?

  • leroi is so talented, but this might have been the first time that millions had been exposed to him and he just played the same note for like 9 seconds? i've also seen carter do this number a little better. i think he's a little more animated during the solo

  • I think the horse voice is becouse of audio quility at times.

  • okonh0wp...you really think the late show is gonna let them jam on #41 for 15 minutes (as they usually do)? We've all seen them do this song better, but they're restricted on these shows. Think before you type.

  • His voice is hoarse. Poor guy.

  • letterman loves to get ripped out of his mind and listen to this...he was probably high on the show

  • look at Boyd jam at 1:41

    woohoo!!

  • lol thats fuckin funny.

  • they rock ass in concert when they do this song. keep rockin it up dmb.

  • Damn, don't know what the music engeneer were doing on the show, but the sound of the Carther's drums suck (hear the snare !)

Awesome song, and awesome playing, but the sound isn't really good :s

  • my favorite dmband song

  • The reason they played #41 is because Letterman liked the song and wanted them to play it

  • I LOVE carters groove after the chorus

  • to the guy who wanted them to play a single: the reason DMB is sweet and not a sell out band like so many others is because they stay off of MTV and make good music and worry about that.... not being famous all over the place and playing already over played singles.

  • dude.....we dont care how much you know about dave matthews band.....we just think they make good music...who cares if we know their biographys?

  • Who would win in a fight: Boyd Tinsley or Chuck Norris?

  • boyd for sure cuz hed just smash that violin over his head

  • no offense to Boyd... but Chuck easy... Chuck Norris pisses excellence... Boyd wears mesh tanktops...

  • You're crazy Chuck Norris would be laying on the ground with a zeta violin busted over his head and a John Norwood Lee bow coming out of his asshole

  • DMB is simply perfect...my favorite tune next to Jimi Thang...this cat is a genius !

  • lips dont match at all....fix that

  • It's odd that they would choose 41 for Letterman. I would've expected Crash Into Me or So Much To Say. 41 is pure greatness, but I would expect them to play one of the singles.

  • wow
