  • That's not a rim shot, it's a cross-stick.

  • I don't cry when I see the cymbal bend.... I wonder what my Sabian HHX Evolution crash looks like. it's a super flexible cymbal... feels like hitting a pillow.

  • Where is the cymbal bend. Someone reply with the time, i Don't have time to watch the whole video. i'll check my inbox later this week so someone reply

  • @Hamgammy 4:50 ;)

  • "Next, we figure out a way to ignite...we'll have John Petrucci showing us his alternate picking style"

  • @UltimaRedFireEskimo hahah.. I wish they actually do something like this with the rest of DT

  • The guys on the show have no idea what he's talking about.

  • o, poor drumkit... ó.ò

  • Standing On The Backs Of Angels!!!!!

  • I wish they could have recorded some of the other cymbals bending. I, for one have never seen a china cymbal slowed down and I would like to see that. :/

  • Cool :) Mike is so emotional :) I had the same face, when i saw the cymbal in slow motion/

  • The video where Mike plays a latin groove has 253 dislikes:here, where he shows his speedness, there are 6. People forgot the meaning of music, when they had ever learned at all.

  • all i want for x-mas is to do a one-handed roll w/both hands like mike here,.....not to much ta ask,....me thinks!!!

  • Mike's face at 4:26 lol

  • That's sweet!!!

  • hes so fast the machine can't even catch the guy

look at his 1203 record lol

  • FOR SCIENCE!

  • FIGURE OUT TO IGNITE WHAT!?

  • Too bad that isn't the current single stroke record...

  • Anyone else notice the reverse of playback at 4:34?

Can't be bothered pointing out all of the evidence but its %100 played back at exactly 4:34... you should notice the slight pause :)

Did they do this to make it look more impressive? Everything else is really good but I am very disappointed over this fake footage :(

  • he must be looking at the slow motion and going, " im warping space and time. i truly am god." haha. thats incredible. imagine if he could harness the information here and be even more efficient by timing his to the resonation.

  • Looking at that cymbal in slo mo was like watching a car hitting a wall, lol!

  • thats probably going to look like what?

  • That's my teacher!!!

  • @determined2praise no way

  • You're looking at Dream Theater's next drummer !

  • i love time warp, mad show

  • Impressive human speed!

    Like!

  • I'll never beat up my drums and cymbals again. Poor darlings. What have I done to you?! :(

  • Can bones be shattered. I was playing a gig a couple of years ago when I could feel myself getting stronger so I would hit harder. I could feel something in my fore arm after each hit. Next thing I knew I inverted my hand once. Had to literally snap it back into place. Is there something wrong with my form? I try to stay as relaxed as possible. Guess I have to watch my intensity with my hits eh!?

  • @WARLOCK70 absolutely it can. you have to think how much energy is actually being transferred threw your wrist, and arms, every minute.... Thats why form is so important....

  • every drummer needs to see this video!!!

  • every drummer needs to see this video!!!!

  • hes got skills, and hes fast as, but personally i really dont enjoy his drumming. the visuals were cool though haha

  • That's insane

  • drummers cry at the sight of the cymbal bend :(

  • @pedruh155 I cringed when i saw that cymbal bend. I will never hit my cymbals that hard ever again :(

  • funny slowmotions at 4:20 :-)

  • wow, i didnt know that skind and cymbal move so much...

  • maybe you can say that his solos are without any feel, but men,he so damn good

  • @metallosissimo92

w/o feel???? really...not that its a sight of anger or sorrow or happy...but unless u play then u get feel...jus like when ur driving angry u waste more gas...when ur happy u dnt...when u play drums mad u tend to play faster or more agressivly...when ur happy your more technical and jolly

  • sooo much better then the metallica one

  • They totally failed to notice that his "fingers" are also a big part of his speed.

  • HOLY SHHMOLY!!!

  • the symbol is amazing.

  • is slow mo - missed out that bit

  • It's a cymbal.

  • oh yeah - oops.

  • This is the coolest thing ever.

  • awesome, thanks for posting that, i lost it on tv!

  • Awesome!±

  • waw

  • WOW!!!!!

  • 5:36 haha

  • hahaha thats probably gonna look like..eww.. hahaha funny stuff

  • That was informative!!!! :D

  • haha wicked.

  • Man hes fast!

But I don't like his fills...

  • 4:16 to 5:16

That's how I would sum it up for those who don't want to watch it all

Best parts, only thing your missing is his speed run, but thats nothing compared to 4:16 to 5:16

The snare's skin is amazing but...

The crash is just... I am speechless...

  • Mike is such a nice and funny guy.....

  • yes he is

  • woooaaaah

  • I saw this episode.

  • 4:55 WHAAAAATT?!?!?!?

  • pretty amazing, eh? ^^

  • he looks a lot like Christoph Schneider from Rammstein in that video :P

  • for now on I'll not to hit the cymbals and drum heads hard!!! shit that was fucked up man...

  • I think the whole point was that Mike *doesn't* hit hard (harder hits = slower hits, the opposite of what he's going for) but that it's the normal reaction of drum heads and cymbals to react in this way, and we simply don't see the extremes in movement. I saw a preview of the Metallica episode running on 4/29 as a bassist Rob Trujillo's slapping taped on a high-speed camera was pretty amazing as well, knowing when to slap one note, mute it and pop the next, and restart the sequence.

  • (harder hits = slower hits, the opposite of what he's going for)< this is misleading. What he is going for is optimum dynamics and tone quality using perfect technique. A drum can only be so loud, so in order to utilize the dynamics available you have to "draw out" the sound. If you just hit harder of course you will play slower, but if your technique is aimed at drawing out sound, speed is inconsequential.

  • nicely put my man

  • not for demon drive pedals.

  • I knew the cymbals gave quite a bit on impact, but the snare head??? Wow.

  • thats crazy! yet oh so cool.

  • mike aint human

  • 5:00 :O!

  • With long hair he looks a bit like the character Bob Fossil from the mighty boosh!

  • awesome display of dexterity and discipline

  • i love his facial expressions. hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • WHATTA NICE GRAVITY BLAST!

  • this is great!! :D

  • "Flick hit". LoL That's awesome!

  • lol sweet

  • Back slap was a win! :P

  • holy snap the snare looks like it is getting owned, and the cymbal looks like it is rubber!!! HOLY CRAP THAT LOOKS MAD CRAZY

  • holy crap i need to see what my hats would look like in slow motion

  • ...i still can't believe that...

  • The snare-head and cymbal slow-down shots were amazing... Wow...

  • Mike Mangini is a true and awesome WFD Champ! It is an honor to be in the World's Fastest Drummer family with him.

Great video and show by the way :)

    WFD

  • i like how when he says thats some fast hands you got there. he shakes them as if he's some kind of freak.

  • i did not know symbols or snares did that... its so effed up

  • "Not that great. I can play as good as him." Who would post a comment like that without proof to back it up?! Just search the previous comments and you'll find the idiot.

  • you can play as good as mike mangini? for sme reason thats just a bit hard to believe

  • too bad Buddy Rich can't be here to particiapte

  • @drummerkid114 Put your money where your mouth is. Let's see some videos of you playing.

    I'll wait.

  • @ctdjazz I agree. lets see your video of you breaking his speed record, and we will see who is puttin on the "show" as you called it.

  • So he does his speed demo using traditional grip instead of his usual matched grip. It would appear that Mike is interested in getting back his traditional grip world record, although he still has the overall record using matched grip.

  • mangini has insane control if not too much... haha...

and we see why control keeps us from hurting ourselves... and why untrained heavy hitters get tendonitis and crack cymbals constantly...

  • wow your cool....

  • then set the next world record......?

  • i will

  • you'v had 4 days. have you done it yet? or ya know. you can post a video of yourself playing.

  • Yeah, I'd like to see you try. If you're planning on beating Mike's record, you're gonna have to go through me cause I'm the third fastest (only 53 strokes away from the World Record).

  • The cymabl and the drum head is crazy

  • cool stuff
