@Jenarson I've played both, it's hard to say. U guys tackle with your heads, which makes it harder than it needs 2 b. I've played 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,12 and 13 in rugby and TE & LB in football. TE & LB are very similar 2 rugby. I played rugby at a much higher level than football, but I'm taking that into account. The equipment balances out (bigger hits that hurt less). You spill more sweat & blood in rugby, that's the main difference, more bodily fluids, lol. (i assume football meant grid iron)

No doubt the hits in NFL are bigger, but that's because it's not a multiphase sport, they don't have to worry about what happens to the player or the ball. Also, pretty much every position is represented in these big hits, you get a fly half making massive hits, but could a quarterback do the same if somehow he got the opportunity? for those of us out there who actually play both sports, i believe we're the only ones who can comment on the difference between the two. Rugby obviously demands much more endurance than football, However rugby hits do not compare to football hits, the padding means nothing football hits are harder
rugby players wouldnt last in NFL and NFL players wouldnt last in rugby, not because teh other is more intense it because the tackles and hitting and plays require different skills and each sport requires different training and skills in general they look similar but in reality they are not while some skills may transcend like speed power and agility technique is vastly different in the two sports as well as team play strategy and pace of the game.
Regardless of the skills invoIved, I think the difference is NFL players have very specific roles and are either very powerful or very agile athletes whereas rugby players are more all-round athletes with excellent cardio.

@Jenarson I've played both, it's hard to say. U guys tackle with your heads, which makes it harder than it needs 2 b. I've played 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,12 and 13 in rugby and TE & LB in football. TE & LB are very similar 2 rugby. I played rugby at a much higher level than football, but I'm taking that into account. The equipment balances out (bigger hits that hurt less). You spill more sweat & blood in rugby, that's the main difference, more bodily fluids, lol. (i assume football meant grid iron)

@jamievtec9891 Polynesia refers to a group of islands in the south pacific, the largest of which are fiji, samoa, tonga etc. its the same as refering to countries like sweden and iceland as scandinavian. And of coarse those players arent as good until they get the right coaching, there simply isnt the money in a country like fiji, with a popuation of a 200,000 or so, to really invest in a strong rugby infrastructure. I think you are the one who needs to go back to school mate.

No doubt the hits in NFL are bigger, but that's because it's not a multiphase sport, they don't have to worry about what happens to the player or the ball. Also, pretty much every position is represented in these big hits, you get a fly half making massive hits, but could a quarterback do the same if somehow he got the opportunity? Probably not, that said football hits are bigger.

I've played both sports and they really are apples and oranges.If you consistently tackle in rugby the way you do in football you won't last a game .
Rugby players are great atheletes and football is slow-start/stop play.
Having said this, if america ever decided to supplant football with rugby they'd destroy every country in the world.

for those of us out there who actually play both sports, i believe we're the only ones who can comment on the difference between the two. Rugby obviously demands much more endurance than football, However rugby hits do not compare to football hits, the padding means nothing football hits are harder

rugby players wouldnt last in NFL and NFL players wouldnt last in rugby, not because teh other is more intense it because the tackles and hitting and plays require different skills and each sport requires different training and skills in general they look similar but in reality they are not while some skills may transcend like speed power and agility technique is vastly different in the two sports as well as team play strategy and pace of the game.

Regardless of the skills invoIved, I think the difference is NFL players have very specific roles and are either very powerful or very agile athletes whereas rugby players are more all-round athletes with excellent cardio.
