@CBXweb Actually N64 had both Project Reality AND Ultra 64 as codenames. Nintendo had every intention of it being Ultra 64 in the states, and it was even unveiled with that name at E3 1995. Project Reality was always meant to be a codename.
@SovietStrike No. It was Project Reality was the code name. Konami, at the time still had the Ultra trademark. I remember reading that years ago in an EGM. Personally, the Ultra 64 colorways, controller were so much more cooler.
@SovietStrike In fact Nintendo started with Project Reality as the Codename and the Ultra 64 was supposed to be the name for the console but to avoid any legal issues with Atari's Ultra Games, they finally change the console's name to Nintendo 64.
This video is not about the N64. These games are arcade games released to Ultra 64, which is an arcade machine from Nintendo. That's why there are CGs on Killer Instinct and the phrase "insert coins" on Crus'n. These videos are not from N64 games for, but from the arcade machines called Ultra 64. I know that because there is still one of those machines active here near my house with Crus'n USA.
I have a December 1995 "Next Generation" magazine that talks a lot about the Ultra 64 and the few games rumored to be announced(Ultra Mario, Killer Instinct, Dark Forces, Red Baron, and Cruis'n USA).
It also shows the original gamepad concept drawing.
Nintendo should remake Cruisin USA and World for the Wii. Think about it, mix real life and fictional circuits, push the Wii to it's graphics limit, differ control options, licenses from real life cars, some car damage, but keep a arcade feel similar to the originals. Arcade feel+Simulation feel+Nintendo elements=revival for a classic to rival Grid, Dirt, Forza, Gran Turismo, NFS, and others. Get your ideas on it Nintendo.
@BigEOT3 They did. Well not Nintendo but Midway. Nintendo didn't develop this series, they're not responsible for it.There's a Cruis'n game for Wii. Rather shitty i'd add.
But Nintendo should make a racing sim that has pick up and play controls, but can be entertaining towards more sim racers aswell. Sony and Microsoft have done, Nintendo could do it if they make something any hardcore or casual would like to play.
Welll Gran Turismo or Forza aren't exactly the pick up and play type o' game, are they ? And they're definitely not targeted to all audiences. Besides it's not really Nintendo's thing to make realistic games. There's also F-Zero by the way.
Man I remember the feeling of wanting to play Killer Instincts on the Ultra 64. Seeing this really brings back those feelings. Boy was I disapointed in for the Crus'n USA game on the 64. But hey it was still fun just looked like crap.
I was taught to play KI by the guy who not only won the KI tournament at the Fun land arcade in London but he also went on to win the combo competition on Gamesmaster. Ahh those were the days
"Available for your home in 1995, only on Nintendo, Ultra 64!" hell yeah, love that line
