welcome to the wings !!! when i was watching the draft i couldnt believe teams were passing on this kid when i seen the wings drafted him i was stoked this kid score , hits and scraps what more could you ask for
glad to hear, I'm a wings fan and i've never seen the kid play but when the wings drafted him I was very excited to hear it, hopefully he breaks into the line up soon
he is entering his 18 yr old season as a junior, expect him to play another 2 years in the WHL. But even after that with the depth that Detroit has he'll probably be playing with Grand Rapids for a couple of years.
Good pure scoring skills. Has a hard, accurate shot and can unload it on the move. Can create for himself, but sometimes it seems he doesn't quite click with linemates. Good but not great skater. Good stop-start quickness, okay speed and agility. Likes to play physical, but doesn't have the size to be effective. Smart away from the puck, and a decent PKer. Not much of a fighter, but in the handful of fights (4) he had this season, he went at it aggressively.
He'll fit into the wings nicely. Reminds me a bit of Ericsson.
What we are really hoping for is a bit of positive bias from the Canadian hockey media considering his father's role in it. If only Don Cherry had a kid to draft, the wings would be on CBC as much as the Leafs.
Looks like he's going to be a younger Maltby. Maltby was a scoring machine in the OHL too and transitioned into a great defensive forward for the Wings. His NHL scouting report was touting him as a great 2-way player and not so much as a scorer, but obviously he has the sense to put the puck in the net.
Looks like he'll fit real well in Detroit, but with our depth he'll have to wait for people to retire at this rate. Go Wings!
4 Stanley Cups in 12 YEARS!!!!! Pavel Datyuk, 171st overall - 5'11" 180 Henrik Zetterberg 210th overall - 5'11" Jonathan Ericsson 291st overall - 6'5" Darren Helm 132nd overall - 5'11" 172 Valtteri Filppula 95th overall - 6'0" 193 Johan "The Mule" Franzen 97th overall Daniel Cleary - Released to the Wings Chris Osgood 54th overall - 5'11" 180 Nick Lidstrom 53rd overall - 6'2" 190 Picked up Kris Draper for $1 dollar Tomas Holmström 257th overall 6'0" 203 GO WINGS!!!
yo dog im from michigan chill out and ik how to spell i was saying wat a steal for us man we just got are next franzen type of player only alot smaller
Oh you mean fans of the team that beat a team decimated by injuries and who also got major breaks from the refs all series long ? Two words: fuck 'em! Once they have 4 championships in 11 years they can start talking shit. Until then they need to shut the fuck up!!! The Wings are built to go to the playoffs year in year out. Pitt had to accumulate 1st and 2nd overall draft picks during this decade to get where they are at. Hope the Wings face 'em next year and put a major beatdown on 'em!!
Detroit has the luxury of letting their young guys develop, instead of rushing them into the lineup. When he gets to Detroit a few years from now he will be ready to contribute....
Seriously getting drafted by Detroit is the best thing that could happen to a prospect. Ask Abdelkader, Helm or Leino...paid their dues in the minors and then opportunity made them contributors on a cup finalist.
I would argue Tavares is the "screwed" one- going to the Islanders
this kid use to go my high school, hes a cocky fag. hes really lucky he didnt get laid out

4 years he will be in the line up the thing wings fans have to worry about is raffy and his hugely overpriced salary for like 3 more years

I can't believe that Detroit landed such great players, Tomas Tatar AND Landon Ferraro. Detroit management is probably the best in the NHL.
