When i got a wii, i sold my gamecube. I tried to play mario sunshine on the wii, and it wouldnt work, so i sold it. I was really dissapointed, but then i realised that i had the disc in the wrong way. FAIL!!!
My only problem with this game is graphic wise. No it's not that the graphics don't look like a PS2 or Xbox game. Fuck that. I'm talking more about other graphics. Such as when Mario in this game, climbs a pole, if you stare a Mario from the back like the game wants you to, he looks like he's climbing. However, if you rotate the camera to Mario's side, you notice that he isn't actually grabbing the pole. He's a little off. Same can be said when he gets on a boat. He's hovering about a cm high.
My complaint in this game is just how many shine sprites are depending on you finding the blue coins. They should've made a couple of more worlds to explore for those, or if the free space on the disc was the problem, they could've just added some more objectives to already existing worlds. Collecting coins gives the impression that they ran out of ideas.
Still, a very good and criminally underrated game.
@BluePhoenix458 Why would they need to do anything? It's called "completing the game". None of the stars after the 70th one did nothing in Super Mario 64, but I collected them all anyway before the final Bowser battle.
This is what I hate about people who hate Mario games because they say they aren't different. They say Mario always does the same thing in the games he is in but when it's about Super Mario Sunshine, they say it's crap just because they aren't used to this style of gameplay.
Nintendo were trying to make their games different but everyone decided the Gamecube was terrible and not even try it. People missed out and this is why people complain.

In my opinion it's really awesome little puzzle game which is second most played game on my 3DS. And according to eShop, there's more people who thinks the same way as it's score is 4,5 stars out of 5.

I really liked how in Double Dash when you'd win the citizens of Isle Delfino would cheer you on, made the two games feel connected. Also, camera could have been better on Sunshine

Guys, you make cool videos but seriously you need to normalise the audio (set it to standard CD audio volume) before you upload. Youtube should have a simple tick box for this upon upload or playback, but ah well they don't. So, it's down to us uploaders to ensure we have non distorted audible sound (either use you video editor software or export the audio to audacity and do it there). Otherwise, you make great vids. :)

THIS is why I STILL have my old gamecube, even if its obsolete to my Wii, I just became too attached to it through games like this, along with LOZ WW, Melee, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Paper mario TTYD, Mario Kart double dash, and all the others I can't think of off the top of my head. This game is one of the best mario games I grew up with. And still I haven't gotten all the shine sprites, but who cares its amazing scenery, music, and the fun of the levels makes this game one of the best 3-D mario I have played so far.
While I do agree with the review, there's a small detail I will have to disagree with. Hotel Mario wasn't a bad game. It's just stereotyped as a bad game. I've played it and enjoyed the heck out of it. Yeah it's got cheesy cut scenes and bad voice acting but the overall experience isn't really bad at all. Pretty sure it's just a ban wagon effect where everyone hears it's bad so they just assume so without playing it.Otherwise, great review.

Green yoshi is in the game! When yoshi is going to run out of juice, he will flash green, if you get a shine sprite the victory animation of him will be green.

@gamesbond0024 It's not released for the Wii; however from what I heard, the Wii has the ability to play Gamecube games. If you want to play Gamecube games on the Wii though, I'm pretty sure you need to have a Gamecube controller and a Gamecube Memory Card.
Actually Yoshi's color does serve a very slight purpose. When you shoot enemies with Yoshi's juice they turn into platforms. Depending on which color Yoshi is the platforms will behave differently. Pink platforms go straight up, purple ones go horizontally, and yellow ones are stationary I believe.
this is a great game however some of the mini games are broken or just not fun to play at all. The worst is the pinball like game on island delfino because it has lots of invisible walls and texture errors. Another thing this game badly needed was the long jump and a bowser castle and/or bowser stage. The bowser fight that is in the game is 5 min at most with no challenge and is in a bathtub for some retarded reason. In fact getting to the bowser fight is harder then the actual fight.
I don't get why the people that give you the shine sprites with 10 blue coins are even in this game. I mean that they are part of the town so wouldn't they just give the island or someone the shine sprites
I love Mario Sunshine but I think it's a bit odd that you didn't mention any of the frustrating camera angles and clipping glitches, which can really screw things up every once in a while.
How come the controls are virtually perfect? I find them very difficult and bad. The physics are also really bad, since you can't control Mario very well in mid-air. Not only that, but Mario cannot long-jump or perform the back-jump after he ducks just like in SM Galaxy and SM64. How can a 3D Mario game not include these two moves? This is not an awful game, but it's definitely one of the least appealing Mario games ever.
@Mariofan53 Nope. If you compare the controls and physics of the two Galaxies to those of SMS, you 'll notice the huge difference. Even SM64 had better controls. I don't know if the fact that I play the game with a third-party GC controller affects my experience with the game, but I highly doubt that this is the reason I find some of the SMS aspects really bad.

This game is one of the best mario games I grew up with. And still I haven't gotten all the shine sprites, but who cares its amazing scenery, music, and the fun of the levels makes this game one of the best 3-D mario I have played so far.

While I do agree with the review, there's a small detail I will have to disagree with. Hotel Mario wasn't a bad game. It's just stereotyped as a bad game. I've played it and enjoyed the heck out of it. Yeah it's got cheesy cut scenes and bad voice acting but the overall experience isn't really bad at all. Pretty sure it's just a ban wagon effect where everyone hears it's bad so they just assume so without playing it.Otherwise, great review.

Actually, the color of the Yoshi does serve a purpose. When an enemy is hit with juice like in that Rico Harbor level, the enemy turns into a block, and depending on the color Yoshi, it will determine which direction the block will move in.

the reason that Yoshi dissolves is because the the yoshis that live there are allergic to the water and that's why they dissolve

Green yoshi is in the game! When yoshi is going to run out of juice, he will flash green, if you get a shine sprite the victory animation of him will be green.

ah the gamecube days. where we didn't care about hi def systems. nintendo didn't want us to be active nor be aimed towards parents who give their kids useless accessories. or games that we beat in a matter of minutes. sure there's a good smg or loz once a while. do you want old nintendo with classics like Pikmin, Paper Mario: TTYD, Super Mario sunshine, and not to forget Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. you be the judge.

@gamesbond0024 It's not released for the Wii; however from what I heard, the Wii has the ability to play Gamecube games. If you want to play Gamecube games on the Wii though, I'm pretty sure you need to have a Gamecube controller and a Gamecube Memory Card.

Actually Yoshi's color does serve a very slight purpose. When you shoot enemies with Yoshi's juice they turn into platforms. Depending on which color Yoshi is the platforms will behave differently. Pink platforms go straight up, purple ones go horizontally, and yellow ones are stationary I believe.

this is a great game however some of the mini games are broken or just not fun to play at all. The worst is the pinball like game on island delfino because it has lots of invisible walls and texture errors. Another thing this game badly needed was the long jump and a bowser castle and/or bowser stage. The bowser fight that is in the game is 5 min at most with no challenge and is in a bathtub for some retarded reason. In fact getting to the bowser fight is harder then the actual fight.

I don't get why the people that give you the shine sprites with 10 blue coins are even in this game. I mean that they are part of the town so wouldn't they just give the island or someone the shine sprites

I love Mario Sunshine but I think it's a bit odd that you didn't mention any of the frustrating camera angles and clipping glitches, which can really screw things up every once in a while.

How come the controls are virtually perfect? I find them very difficult and bad. The physics are also really bad, since you can't control Mario very well in mid-air. Not only that, but Mario cannot long-jump or perform the back-jump after he ducks just like in SM Galaxy and SM64. How can a 3D Mario game not include these two moves? This is not an awful game, but it's definitely one of the least appealing Mario games ever.

@Mariofan53 Nope. If you compare the controls and physics of the two Galaxies to those of SMS, you 'll notice the huge difference. Even SM64 had better controls. I don't know if the fact that I play the game with a third-party GC controller affects my experience with the game, but I highly doubt that this is the reason I find some of the SMS aspects really bad.
