I'm no British person (and not an alcoholic drinker), but I saw this on ABC's "The Best Commercials You've Never Seen (And Some You Have)" special in late 1999. It was so funny how he plays it cool throughout the commercial. I've also seen the penguin version, but it's not as good as this one. LOL!!
i remember seeing how they did that advert and the tow truck was actualy driving towards a mirror at a 45 degree angle an jack was at the side of the road at a 90 degree angle so the camera was looking at jack an then the mirror in the back ground with the speeding truck an the truck crashed through the mirror.
I think it was on some program "how do they do that" like in 2000 or 99 or sumthing such a long time ago for me now :p
Actually its done with green screen thats why he says 'your going to put the pub background in afterwards?' The cars and junkyard are filmed seperatley ....
okay well they filmed the tow truck bit with the mirror at 45 degree's an later green screened jack in the shot. I know from what i remember the tow truck guy was told to like stop before crashing through the mirror.
I'm still searching for an advert. Here's the clues: it's from the UK. it aired around 1994. it stars comedian Jack Dee. He's advertising John Smith Bitter (beer). not this one.
The commercial has a catchy jingle: "A Widget. It's got a widget. A lovely widget. A widget it has got." It might have won a british advertisining award.
This is jack dee selling out in 44 seconds.

Great advert that, so unlike many other cringeworthy attempts at humour in advertising.

Loved his response to the question a few years later, "Did you really like the beer?".
"Yes I did. In fact, every time I go back to my house, I still think, 'I love that beer'."
