@dxmeck123xx most of the cheerleading jumps land crazy hard, that seems to be the way they do it. What they don't show is how dangerous it is and how easy it is to injure your ankles and knees by landing so flat like that.

Also practise things like backwalkovers , running walkovers , flicks , tucks , front handsprings , doubles , and pike and hurdler jumps. @Jessiethenerd i can do all the tumbling and i just got my back tuck but my main problem is jumps! i have to get them higher, im flexible enough i just need to get them higher! i have try outs august 19th!
@ForeverOurWorld If you build up leg and core strength it really helps . A good exercise to get higher toe touches is to lie on your back with your arms above your head , and then use your core muscles to snap in to a straddle , and go back down , then repeat several times. It really helped me improve my toe touches :) Also , most coaches care more about motion technique than height , so as long as your techinque is good , you'll do fine .Good Luck at Tryouts, and remember to keep smiling ! <3
@ultimatemeister123 Then you have NO CHANCE of making it if you can't even do a cartwheel !This girl at my school could do a roundoff backhand spring but she didnt make the team because she had horrible jumps. I doubt you'llbe able to pull that off in a year.

she also didn't land it right, absorb most of the weight from landing by bending your knees. it looks better and you won't have a tendency to fall over. it also helps to prevent injury.
Very nice pike! However, you are incorrect on one point. You should NOT round your back. You should lean forward but be arched. This will keep your head up and also allow you to increase your flexibility. If you stretch with a rounded back, you will never increase flexibility. Basics of human kinetics people. Simple stuff and important to know if you are going to be teaching this type of activity to others.
I did "hear" her say advanced jump. However this is not an advanced jump when performed on it's own. I have both level one Tiny and Mini teams in their first year of cheer who have no trouble performing this jump. It becomes more advanced when performed in sequence with other jumps or with tumbling. Also, I didn't say that the jump itself was simple or basic. I said that the laws of human kinetics (ie rounded vs arched back concept) are pretty simple to anyone trained in this type of field.
I got my toe touch really easily once I got the technique right,
Try jumping with your legs bend first, and focus of getting your thighs in a straight line cos then you can get your body into the right position. Then I got my legs straight really easily after that.

It;s fine to pop our ribs out of it's part of the choreography (as in doing it as a movement) but standing with your ribs out for a prolonged time is really quite bad for your spine.

nice jump but my coaches taught us not to do an extra jump when u approach because judges mark it of on the score sheets so you r teaching children wrong technique

practice makes perfect, but my main tip other then to practice a lot is to keep your knees really close together, it makes it easier for the rest of your legs to stay closer together.

I'm a guy and I do cheerleading for my high school, and apparently pikes are my best jumps due to me being able to jump high.
