My family is from Mississippi-- and acts EXACTLY like this... screaming at one another one minute, giggling together the next. It's been VERY hard to stop this behavior when you've grown up with it. I've scared off a few first dates this way!
Ed tells Mama to take her business to Acme Hardware..but if you look at the sign on the window when the "hussy" walks in..it says "Acme Hardware"..haha...
I forgot how high Carol's voice could pitch during her Eunice tirades, and her eyes were excruciatingly magical. Her pre-chin implant was also great for these sketches making her look more like a human cartoon. I would like to have been born for this kind of comedy as were they.
Ed says..."Welcome to Central Hardware'...but the sign on the window says Acme Hardware...where he suggests Mother Harper go...someone wasnt on the ball!
This must be one of the earlier Family sketches, because the characters aren't as refined in their personalities as they'd later be. Plus, Vicki is wearing a LOT of eye makeup here -- the way women did in the earlier 70s. By the mid/late 70s, Mama didn't look so made up.
This show was sooooooooo funny!!! This scene alone has four of the all time best actors and actresses. "Well how the hell should i know I didi;nt measure my bathtub drainhole the minute I got up this morning" CLASSIC! Thanks for the post.
Acme Hardware is seen clearly in the window at 2:52 I thought Ed's hardware store was Central Hardware LOL cause he firects the customer to go to Acme hardware why when the sign says she's already there
After looking at some of these shows....I am convinced that Micky and Ed have something more than just friends or employers.....Or maybe Eunice is such a bully that anything is more important than Eunice...lol
Eunice is SO HATEFUL, I just wonder if someone took her out and beat the holy hell out of her, if THAT would solve the problem and give her a better attitude?
This shows how Mama has changed in this and Mama's Family, In Mama's Family if someone had yelled SHUT UP or I'll ram the stopper down your throat, she would have probably punched them in the face.
Vicki has so much more eye makeup on then she usually did as Mama. She must have not had time to remove it from whatever skit she had done just previously to this.
These sketches are brilliant. Carol & Company inhabit these characters realistically and hilariously. AND great sketch writing: "You just shut up or I'll take that little rubber stopper out of your purse and ram it down your throat." Note the mistake as Ed tells the female customer that this is Central Hardware and that she can get the cloth tape at Acme Hardware, yet the big sign on Ed's window clearly says that his store is Acme Hardware. But again this is TV comedy at its absolute finest.
These sketches are high art - the best thing Carol Burnett did. I wish they'd realease the full versions on DVD - most of these versions from syndication were cut all to pieces.
I guess what sets her apart from Lucy, and is especially apparent in these Family skits, is not just how funny she is, but also what a great actress she was (is). The other three are perfect as well, but Carol is the emotional center, the one we feel for the most.
I think its kind of touching the way Ed stands up for and praises Mickey:
"Now you lay off on Mickey Hart, do you hear? He's a good man, he's the best there is and I'm lucky to have him working for me!!! He's honest, and trustworthy, and loyal!!! Dont you call him a creep! He's one of the finest, highest men that ever walked the face of this earth!!!
Ive been trying so hard to decide who is the best Lucille Ball or Carol Burnett, boy and its a tough one! I love them both, but sorry Lucy i think Miss Carol is right next to u!
It's the details that are so striking -- the look Mama shoots every time Mickey greets her by shouting at her (4:30) or the priceless expressions on Mama's and Eunice's face as Mickey rambles on to Ed(5:22).
With all do respect to the princesses of classic TV comedy, Lucy and Mary Tyler Moore, Carol gets my vote for eternal Queen.
How in the hell I shoud I know.....classic! I think the best one is when they are playing games......especially the Sorry game....brutal! These are so funny, and so rea life at times......I think we call identify with these characters!! Great Stuff!
great. man, this combination of comedy and tragedy that they achieved with these skits is amazing. did you notice that the window on ed's store sez Acme Hardware? isn't that the OTHER hardware store where thelma shops and ed sends the customer to for cloth tape?
Hopefully! I'm waiting on another set of Eunice episodes from my internet friend in California. When I get them (if they're ones I haven't already uploaded) I'll put 'em up.
I noticed that too. I didn't think that you could advertise another person's hardware store on your window. About like telling people at Pizza Hut to go to Domino's or Papa John's Pizza to eat or any other place for that matter.
"I didnt measure my bathtub drain-hole the minute I got up this morning"...she said drain hole....huh huh

Mama: "And you got stuck with the purple light bulbs?"
Ed: "I'll sell them, I'll sell them!!" And if I don't sell them I can put them up on the Christmas tree."
Mama: "Are you planning on putting those Japanese rabbit traps on the tree too?"
ROTFLMAO!!

@rockgor .....There was a famous old movie theater in Kansas City called The Waldo. It was built in the 1920's. Sadly, it burned down in 2007.
