I really loved playing the second one in ps2 because obviously you can customize your robot like your legs (4 legs,tank body,and more) arms, head, and other cool things and I really want to buy this game. Like if your hyped for this game

@jamesraynor100 You don't need to be afraid of that, what these AC's shoot out of a Pistol still puts a sabot round to shame. Also in the rendered trailer they show a tank leg running over abrams-like tanks, the compariion is still frightening. Think of it as instead of being in Godzilla's way your being chased down by a T-Rex. In my opinion these ACs are still scary-ass things to be facing. Also if you look at the gameplay footage, they still move pretty freaking fast.

Chrome Hounds is basically the retarded off spring of Armored Core. The mech designing was broken. The single player was crap. Parts were horribly unbalanced. There was flying in chrome hounds. It just usually got your legs hurt is all. Better to grab some fast legs and mount heat seekers that fly in chrome hounds as it is. 99% of the players were too stupid to mount flares.
I think some of Armored Core's trailers have been better in the past in terms of quality. I like the parts from 2:05 on that look a little more realistic and really makes the title feel closer to reality. I think thats what drew me to Armored Core is the way they tend to present the concept in a way that makes it look believeable and realistic.
the trailer for this was a let down. I expect that the control system for this one will be screwed up as well. AC4 has decent controls but AC4A was just screwed up and made the game much more difficult.
i used to love to play armored core games, all of them from 2 to new, but one day i broke my playstation and befor i could get a new one i got arrested and my mom sold all my games, i didn't even get any of the money for the games i paid for myself and spent like a year collecting. now i really really miss them.... really. if anyone knows where i can find a system for AC games n the games for cheap please tell me!!
All i want from an AC game is, smarter A.I. better character Development and a more... "dynamic" storyline oh and bigger battles.... AC4 was kinda of just one on 20 combat with an occasional ally or two
Was never a fan of the recent Armored Core games and the direction it seemed like they were taking the games; however I was a huge fan of Chromehounds and therefore I am very, very excited to see what they do with the newest installment into the AC franchise.
@deathcon00 I've seen people get into Gundam vs. Armored Core arguments lately. I'd love to see a game that pitted these two mechas against each other! (but lets be honest, All the Gundam pilots would die from Kojima radiation from AC4/fA NEXTs regardless)

This trailer's pretty much doing what all mech trailers do; show yo the big explosions and huge enemies bit. That big ass thing with the laser cannon looks like a mix between the old superweapons in AC3 mixed with an Arms Fort from what I can tell.
they're not flying through the air, they don't have force fields. A tank tread AC is actually doing something, they're shooting at tanks and helicopters that are credible threats.
This is the most down to earth and humble an AC has been since 1.
Woah. Look at that core of the AC they unearthed and tell me it doesn't look strangely close to the one Zinaida used in LR. I think, somehow, they found her AC.

@OverlordLS It seems to be taking a concept from chromehounds, yes, but it almost sounds like they're applying it in a similar fashion to Demon's Souls's multiplayer. Demon's Souls is a perfectly enjoyable game even when disconnected from the internet, so I have a feeling that this game could still be plenty of fun even IF the multiplayer falls through. This being said, though, I'm still confident that FROM learned their lesson with Chromehounds. Should be great
@OverlordLS You are NOT the only vet ac fan! I got into the series with AC2, played every one since! I loved them all and this one looks like it's going to be no exception!
I'm personally worried that the co-op play will cause this game to set aside the mercenary storyline of the franchise and replace it with the "War sucks" theme of Gundam or other mecha franchises. I enjoyed being a one-man army that didn't mind being used and manipulated by a corporation, because that was my job. A private military unit like this five-man team diminishes that badass feeling. I know this is a small detail to some people, but the small details are what I appreciate the most.
They handled that fairly well with the way they did the story in Chrome Hounds. Unfortunately the online was extremely flawed. Boosters pretty much cheated their way through to control who won the war. If you didn't join their group you'd never get the medals for most points earned, ect. I recall a time they left the war to go on it's own for a couple of weeks, only to change everything in one night.
Trailer aside, the screenshots look great, and what I hear of the gameplay sounds great. I always thought about how the game should be more strategic so as to add more depth to the gameplay. Good to see they're finally trying it. Online only doesn't really bug me, since they will have a mode for offline-only players. Looks good. They got the thematic point of "destruction that only mechs can deliver" in the trailer very well.

Sorry, but Chrome Hounds played like Mechwarrior's retarded kid brother. It was clear that they were trying to make an Armored Core game with it but changed gears. Looks like they're back to their old habits this time around. Which means it will probably play somewhat like Mechwarrior, somewhat like the old Armored Cores. Judging from the out dated graphics they're actually using the engine they used in Chrome Hounds.

Besides, even the old AC series are NO WHERE similar to Mehwarrilols. In fact, the Fromsoft designers specifically said that they did NOT like the mechanics of Mehwarrilols, and thus AC was born...
I said Chrome Hounds played like poor recreation of Mechwarrior. Still, it was clear it was the original direction for Armored Core 4. I mean really, you're a mercenary that belongs to an elite mercenary organization that fields fully customizable mechs? Sounds like the typical Ravens Nest sort of group, fielding AC's against MT's. Your main leg groups consist almost entirely of the types originally used in armored core? Quads and reverse joints are good snipers JUST LIKE AC4?
Beyond that, though, besides the animal references, the organization, the mercs, the mech types and play styles.. no. Doesn't remind me of Armored Core. Sheesh, how do you not see the connections?
As for mechwarrior, you can make fun of the name but the fact remains that it was one of the best mech games out there. The only thing that was ever really better than it was.. why.. Armored Core! The only other REAL competition is Front Mission...which Square seems determined to ruin.
@onigojira I was not making fun of Mechwarrior as a game, I loved it (well, at least the first 2 and the old Battletechs). I was referring to MW fanboys, which I mistook you as one, and for that, sorry.
But, I do think there are something we should get straight:
1. It's common for games to copy their mechanics. Most FPS are alike, so why do people bother to buy different ones? As for the legs, there's actually physical reason for quads, tanks and reverse joints to have higher stability.
I would think they're just vaguely similar games too.. except they were made by the same company. It seems pretty clear that for a while during its development, Chrome Hounds WAS going to be Armored Core 4. They probably felt that it stepped too far away from the established game play, though, which is why they went in another direction for the actual Armored Core 4. It's clear here that they've felt that they have found a happy medium with Armored Core 5.
3. Finally, Front Mission was never meant to be a contender of mecha battle games. Back in SNES, FM was a SLG, and it was one of the best games I've played even until this day. FM 2-4 and even Alternative were still STRATEGIC games. It was only until FM 5 that somehow Squaresoft thought an Action Strategy game would be better. And somehow in Devolved SquareEnix took the Strategy part out all together.
My point: If you are going to compare games and cross reference them, do it right.
My point: I was mentioning the three best game series, or just games in general with mechs. I was not comparing their play styles, although Evolved has taken a serious step back in terms of story line, and in terms of game play. On the other hand, Lost Planet is shaping up to be one of the best mech oriented series out there. I wish more of my friends had gotten 2, the game goes woefully underplayed in my room currently.
@onigojira Hah, Lost Planet was pretty good... But LP 2 is... I'd suggest renting it or buy a second hand copy. As far as mecha battles go, currently AC is the only game worth it's dime, UNLESS, you count Gundam VS series for arcades and Playstation. At least there are tournaments in Japan nowadays, and I think there was an international contest for ACFA.
Let's hope that Fromsoft don't screw up this series... or the Bandai branch of Bandai Namco would stay out of this game!
The story on 2 was lacking, I think, but over all the game play was vastly improved. I've heard the competitive multiplayer is awful though, but since I never got bored of co-op I never tried it. I did like that getting in a mech didnt drain you of your life points so far now, however. The new models were fun too. Would've liked a level with the motorcycle mechs though.
2. It's common for AC series for undergo "major overhaul" every generation. The controls, and world becomes more advance and complex, though the main plot never change: major corporations fighting over resources.
As the founder of "AC club" back in my high school, I can assure you we never felt anything wrong with a single AC release: the players are MEANT to explore the world through missions and taking different sides. It's only then you could see the (hints of) truth.
You can also say that there's nothing wrong with a single AC release, but AC4 was woefully short on parts, ACFA renders half of it's own parts useless between high speeds and poor netcode.
AC5's online looks like it is going to be utter crap. Unless of course they actually police it this time and watch for cheaters. Otherwise it will go the same way as Chrome Hounds and no one will really care about the online campaign because you can't even have an impact.
^^^ I 100% agree with you on that. But Keep in mind that it AC4 was the first game on "next-next gen" gaming consoles, aka Xbox360 and PS3. What the game lacked in parts, they made up for it with a kickass story! And ACFA? Don't tell me that you didn't get all pumped up fighting those mobile forts.
As far as parts hunting go, there's always AC Nexus...
Giant mech bosses are staple in the series, as I'm sure you already know. They were nice but a run through only takes maybe an hour tops for campaign? The meat and potatoes after the story was the online multiplayer. The fact that we couldn't run EVERY mission in co-op bothered me, and of course half the parts were rendered useless by the new enhanced speed. I didn't like that I had to completely relearn how to play and build decent mechs, essentially.
I've been waiting for this game that hasn't been updated for ages... and this is what I get? Trailers was mediocre and idk wtf just happened with the action scenes!
I cant believe they pushed this back to 2012. Thats like a bitch giving you the best boner of your life, and telling u you cant fuck until next year!
But seriously I almost dont mind the wait if its going to be as great as it has the potential to be. As a big fan of the last 2 AC games, I know this game has the potential to rival the overhyped games we are currently playing.

@deathcon00 I've seen people get into Gundam vs. Armored Core arguments lately. I'd love to see a game that pitted these two mechas against each other! (but lets be honest, All the Gundam pilots would die from Kojima radiation from AC4/fA NEXTs regardless)

@SaintSeya1 You know the plans for AC5 involve bringing the combat down to more AC1 levels, just with an expansion to cooperative and online play, use of the map elements through the smaller ACs, and that whole sort of thing right?
This trailer's pretty much doing what all mech trailers do; show yo the big explosions and huge enemies bit. That big ass thing with the laser cannon looks like a mix between the old superweapons in AC3 mixed with an Arms Fort from what I can tell.

they're not flying through the air, they don't have force fields. A tank tread AC is actually doing something, they're shooting at tanks and helicopters that are credible threats.
This is the most down to earth and humble an AC has been since 1.

@Unsung0101 There's always the possibility that they reconstructed his AC for Arena in this game (if they do, we're all gonna die. Though I want to be able to battle NEXTs and other bosses from past AC games like Juggernaut from AC4.

@OverlordLS It seems to be taking a concept from chromehounds, yes, but it almost sounds like they're applying it in a similar fashion to Demon's Souls's multiplayer. Demon's Souls is a perfectly enjoyable game even when disconnected from the internet, so I have a feeling that this game could still be plenty of fun even IF the multiplayer falls through. This being said, though, I'm still confident that FROM learned their lesson with Chromehounds. Should be great

I'm personally worried that the co-op play will cause this game to set aside the mercenary storyline of the franchise and replace it with the "War sucks" theme of Gundam or other mecha franchises. I enjoyed being a one-man army that didn't mind being used and manipulated by a corporation, because that was my job. A private military unit like this five-man team diminishes that badass feeling. I know this is a small detail to some people, but the small details are what I appreciate the most.

They handled that fairly well with the way they did the story in Chrome Hounds. Unfortunately the online was extremely flawed. Boosters pretty much cheated their way through to control who won the war. If you didn't join their group you'd never get the medals for most points earned, ect. I recall a time they left the war to go on it's own for a couple of weeks, only to change everything in one night.

Trailer aside, the screenshots look great, and what I hear of the gameplay sounds great. I always thought about how the game should be more strategic so as to add more depth to the gameplay. Good to see they're finally trying it. Online only doesn't really bug me, since they will have a mode for offline-only players. Looks good. They got the thematic point of "destruction that only mechs can deliver" in the trailer very well.

Play the Fucking Game.
Yeah, my gaming history started from an era when was NO trailers whatsoever. And to be honest, trailers never did the good games any justice, but rather made crap games look better.

Sorry, but Chrome Hounds played like Mechwarrior's retarded kid brother. It was clear that they were trying to make an Armored Core game with it but changed gears. Looks like they're back to their old habits this time around. Which means it will probably play somewhat like Mechwarrior, somewhat like the old Armored Cores. Judging from the out dated graphics they're actually using the engine they used in Chrome Hounds.
The comparison is just.

Besides, even the old AC series are NO WHERE similar to Mehwarrilols. In fact, the Fromsoft designers specifically said that they did NOT like the mechanics of Mehwarrilols, and thus AC was born...

I said Chrome Hounds played like poor recreation of Mechwarrior. Still, it was clear it was the original direction for Armored Core 4. I mean really, you're a mercenary that belongs to an elite mercenary organization that fields fully customizable mechs? Sounds like the typical Ravens Nest sort of group, fielding AC's against MT's. Your main leg groups consist almost entirely of the types originally used in armored core? Quads and reverse joints are good snipers JUST LIKE AC4?

As for mechwarrior, you can make fun of the name but the fact remains that it was one of the best mech games out there. The only thing that was ever really better than it was.. why.. Armored Core! The only other REAL competition is Front Mission...which Square seems determined to ruin.

@onigojira I was not making fun of Mechwarrior as a game, I loved it (well, at least the first 2 and the old Battletechs). I was referring to MW fanboys, which I mistook you as one, and for that, sorry.
But, I do think there are something we should get straight:
1. It's common for games to copy their mechanics. Most FPS are alike, so why do people bother to buy different ones? As for the legs, there's actually physical reason for quads, tanks and reverse joints to have higher stability.

I would think they're just vaguely similar games too.. except they were made by the same company. It seems pretty clear that for a while during its development, Chrome Hounds WAS going to be Armored Core 4. They probably felt that it stepped too far away from the established game play, though, which is why they went in another direction for the actual Armored Core 4. It's clear here that they've felt that they have found a happy medium with Armored Core 5.

3. Finally, Front Mission was never meant to be a contender of mecha battle games. Back in SNES, FM was a SLG, and it was one of the best games I've played even until this day. FM 2-4 and even Alternative were still STRATEGIC games. It was only until FM 5 that somehow Squaresoft thought an Action Strategy game would be better. And somehow in Devolved SquareEnix took the Strategy part out all together.
My point: If you are going to compare games and cross reference them, do it right.

My point: I was mentioning the three best game series, or just games in general with mechs. I was not comparing their play styles, although Evolved has taken a serious step back in terms of story line, and in terms of game play. On the other hand, Lost Planet is shaping up to be one of the best mech oriented series out there. I wish more of my friends had gotten 2, the game goes woefully underplayed in my room currently.

@onigojira Hah, Lost Planet was pretty good... But LP 2 is... I'd suggest renting it or buy a second hand copy. As far as mecha battles go, currently AC is the only game worth it's dime, UNLESS, you count Gundam VS series for arcades and Playstation. At least there are tournaments in Japan nowadays, and I think there was an international contest for ACFA.
Let's hope that Fromsoft don't screw up this series... or the Bandai branch of Bandai Namco would stay out of this game!

The story on 2 was lacking, I think, but over all the game play was vastly improved. I've heard the competitive multiplayer is awful though, but since I never got bored of co-op I never tried it. I did like that getting in a mech didnt drain you of your life points so far now, however. The new models were fun too. Would've liked a level with the motorcycle mechs though.

2. It's common for AC series for undergo "major overhaul" every generation. The controls, and world becomes more advance and complex, though the main plot never change: major corporations fighting over resources.
As the founder of "AC club" back in my high school, I can assure you we never felt anything wrong with a single AC release: the players are MEANT to explore the world through missions and taking different sides. It's only then you could see the (hints of) truth.

You can also say that there's nothing wrong with a single AC release, but AC4 was woefully short on parts, ACFA renders half of it's own parts useless between high speeds and poor netcode.
AC5's online looks like it is going to be utter crap. Unless of course they actually police it this time and watch for cheaters. Otherwise it will go the same way as Chrome Hounds and no one will really care about the online campaign because you can't even have an impact.

^^^ I 100% agree with you on that. But Keep in mind that it AC4 was the first game on "next-next gen" gaming consoles, aka Xbox360 and PS3. What the game lacked in parts, they made up for it with a kickass story! And ACFA? Don't tell me that you didn't get all pumped up fighting those mobile forts.
As far as parts hunting go, there's always AC Nexus...

Giant mech bosses are staple in the series, as I'm sure you already know. They were nice but a run through only takes maybe an hour tops for campaign? The meat and potatoes after the story was the online multiplayer. The fact that we couldn't run EVERY mission in co-op bothered me, and of course half the parts were rendered useless by the new enhanced speed. I didn't like that I had to completely relearn how to play and build decent mechs, essentially.
