Allerliebst, Dein Thomas
Only viable solution I see is to have job creation exceeding job destruction. I think germany's firing costs are single most important deterrent to hiring and reason for lackluster job growth.
As a finn I find german reaction to Bochum closure little bit odd because we have had similar sized layoffs here with less moaning, and you would think they are felt even harsher here in small sparsely populated country.
Also as a small country we don't get any protection from EU whatsoever. Italy got some protection for it's textile industry from cheap chinese imports. Where was EU when globalization scrapped our electronics manufacturing?
I know this is reply late... but the reaction was so harsh because Nokia received 40 Million EUR of subsidies to build the factory in Bochum. This behavior is not in line with many people's business ethics. It would be interesting to see if sales went down in Germany since the story is already dead and buried.
I f Hitler would have won the war, every great company with the character of the nokia management would investigate in Nazi-großdeutschland because there are labour- concentration camps with extremely cheap working slaves. Nowaday its China and a underdeveloped country like roumania where you can find thousands of enslaved workers and concentration camps in which the Nokias make their max. profit. Thats globalization of today, the realization of Adolf Hitlers dream of a worldwide slavery.
no, it's called free trade and market and the fact that work is cheaper in Romania only means better business for Nokia...I don't see a reason for getting upset other than they got left with no jobs but guess what, that's just how capitalism works...so don't go preaching communism, cuz' we know all about how THAT WORKED OUT :)
You only support my thesis: capitalism in particular that of the manchester type seeks to maximize profit. The best business you can make where you can get the service of enslaved workers with no rights whom you need to pay only a couple of worthless pennys for their work. Free trade and market? Bullshit! Nokias profit in Germany passed the 250million euro limit each year plus they got 80000000 financial support from the state NRW. Finally, in 3years the roumanians will have the same fortune.
guys, face it, business is business. We had this in Romania, too. And correct me, if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that there were German companies, that came to Romania, bought the factory, fired all people and cut and melt down everything they could find. And Romanians still don't hate Germans and they didn't compose songs with hatred towards German people.
I'm pretty sure that the political campaign, elections have been the origin of growth of hatred and scandal.
The song has nothing to do with hate. It's even kind of politely saying that nokia is doing something wrong against workers that have been loyal for many years. The thing is that most Finns replying here do take this as an offence ? I'm surpriced. German Nokians are very proud of working with Nokia and now they are just really disapointed. This is happening in Finland also, but Finns always go quietly complaining to the trees in the forest.
I'm really sorry for the events happened in Germany. There's a rumor in the romanian press that Nokia is already searching for a cheeper country to move their facility like Moldavia. And they've just started production at the one in Romania! I really don't see the reason why anybody should sign in to work at Nokia. Any day, they could experience the exact thing that happened in Germany. I'm not really sure that the salary offered by Nokia compensates the high risk of loosing your job
I like Germany and Germans. I was a summer in Krefeld (near Bochum). This event is of course bad for you.
But why such a behaviour in Germany? In 2000 a German Fujitzu-Siemens closed down a profitable computer factory In Finland. 450 people lost their jobs. This was for us as important as the Bochum factory for you.
It is possible that the foreign companies will not investigate in Germany any more. They can learn about this. That would be bad for Germany in the future.
singing about this issue is ok. but the only thing that really helps is when people start buying things that are produced nearby. then the nokias of this world have to factor this into their decision making.
I agree. Thats how it is. I was just interested in the answer. :)
But still too few people ask question about goverment, companies etc.
And if the news are right today Rumanians are underpaid in Nokia now btw. they get no standard salaries, and I call this already more than greedy and unfair. At least it is what I have read today.
Germany is a country with no resources, means no oil, raw materials (like metals....).
The only thing we have in Germany is technolgy and we have to be good at it, quality is under pressure because of the low consumer prices. So the only thing what keeps Germans economy "alive" is technolgy and thats why the expections for worker are so high. And if anybody expects that they have to pay less for NOKIA phone made in Rumainia is dreaming- NOKIA takes it all.
Everybody expects to pay less for the products they buy without realising the fact that ultimately it would cost them their jobs, and the state would have to support them, and the taxes will raise and so on. Like I've said before, for example, China didn't have a shipbuilding industry per se, before the european shipowners begun building their ships there and now most of the european shipyards are closed! The fact is, the Western Europe is simply too expensive to be profitable!
"Germans by the way, are also very hard working people." That's absolutely true. But they also have a tendency to see themselves above anybody else. The fact is, this is globalization, today is Romania, tomorrow it will be Russia or China or Vietnam. The problem was at the begining of this trend, this shouldn't have to hapened. The Nokias should be made only in Finland, the BMWs only in Germany, etc. But then the people would complain about the prices
The conflict between Nokia and Bochum shouldn't have anything to do with some grazy guy and dictator from austria who did terrible things to other people. I just can't pull that out every time, when germans are trying to get back to normal life and are defending themselves. I can't accuse the whole nation like 2000 years from now, because of him. When is this going to ghange?
Germans by the way, are also very hard working people.
They gave their aid to Nokia in the beginning, thinking Nokia stays there and offers jobs. As soon as aid stopped, Nokia took its factory somewhere else.
I'm Finn too, but i don't want to be unfair Finn. It's time for Germany to change their image as "European social office"and open their mouth when they feel so. Everybody else has the same right.Germans have been paying enough because of their past and new generations shouldn't be suffering because of that anymore.Past is past.
I have been following this discussion here and to be honest, can't see where it's going.
Can't you realize that germans are not mad at finnland, but Nokia and they feel betrayed and disappointed because of the way Nokia has been handeling the situation.
Germany has been the biggest financial donator and supporter in europe when it comes to development countries, including Romenien.
Private citizens send money and packages to those countries.Let's be fair, everyone knows that.
Do you really think that the right to make bigger profits comes before the right of people to have a job (which also means safety, family, children, house... a life, you know)?
You can call it globalization but I'd rather call it slavery, which we should ALL stand against. Unless you're the Nokia (or whatever) CEO.
The point is not charity here. Profit-making is ok but I'm questioning GREED in this case. We should all despise GREED as we all despise violence and racism. It might be expensive to pay workers in the EU (I mean the founding members) but if you DO make money and profit why the hell shouldn't your workers get something as well?
You are right, we have such people here (maybe you can find them in other nations, too). But I can tell you, for one of my jobs in the past, I have need 2 years for to find a new job. The expections from some companies get higher and higher, too. For sure, I have to learn and to get better skills, but when I have it, then have the companies already higher expections again. Look at Siemens and the job offers....(I dont know is that still actual), but by my last look, they search after 1000 people
I've read such an amount of bullshit here, so I would like to express my opinion.
First of all, there's no reference to Finland-Finnish people in the song so I don't really understand all the concern on nationalism (either German or Finnish) here.
The point is (or at least should be): is it right to PROTEST when somebody making huge profits closes factories to make BIGGER profits elsewhere? I think it is, and so is the right to denounce it no matter WHO does it and WHERE he does it.
I agree. The tread should be about the multinationals greed. I wonder where the pride is if/when the Salo Factory is closed ? Actually, it is the managements lazy way gaining short term productivity increases by laying off people.
Türk is pissed of because even for inventing Kebap the Türk had to arrive in Berlin. Türk in their homeland do nothing but hit on Kurds and Armenian with toy they get from Uncle Sam.
German Übermenchen believe, that they really are working in germany. The truth is, that Germany benefits from a Turkish slave labour. Die Übermenchen only drink beer and soak their Lederhosen. The world already know what germans mean with the Sozialismus.
Fujitsu Siemens decided in December 1999 to shut down a profitable computer assembly plant in Finland and move its production to Germany. Following the closure (attempts to find a prospective buyer failed), 450 employees will be dismissed by the end of March 2000.
everybody is a loser here. nokia lost a huge market in germany and germany made itself look like a bad idea to invest in the future. who wants to invest in a country, where you are stuck and can never get away anymore. has samsung invested in germany? nope, and after this, never will.
I remember when Fujitsu-Siemens shutdown a profitable computer factory in Finland because it was much easier than in Germany. German has high living standard and they don't want to lose that. Nokia factory is more needed in Romania than in Germany. Okay, don't buy german cars or anything else made in Germany, is that fare enough. Really stupid, stop globalization if you don't want this happen.
Nokia is not a philantrophic operation! Germans have shown awesome selfishness by trashing the only mobile phone manufacturer that still has had massive production in Germany.
The German labour should really get in touch with reality!
Ps: Its sad to see so many people from different countrys which are right arguing etc.
Not this subject nokia now, but over all you can see here in this comments what for problems this world have and it can destroy so many things. Ignorance, arrogance.....
One more thing; if you want to protect your economy why all the german shipowners are building their ships in China and Korea if you are indeed competitive on the market economy?
Remember Siemens cellphones, people? You've sold willingly the company to Benq and now is gone! If you didn't have protected your industry yourself why do you expect now to be protected by someone else?? Why Opel has opened plants in Hungary and Poland instead of Germany? Why is the M-Klasse built in Alabama? Because you have higher taxes and wages that's why! Instead of blaming someone else you should look at yourself to why Germany is so expensive.
nokia is not bankrubt, why risk relationships to country like germany?
what if in the future nokia or other finnish companies want to open businessies i germany?
is germany going to wellcome them now when the "trust"is gone?
honestly i think, it's not always about money
and nokia is risking possibilities for other finnish companies too, acting so moneyhungry alltough the company is doing well.that's the point, they are doing well.
"what if in the future nokia or other finnish companies want to open businessies i germany?
is germany going to wellcome them now when the "trust"is gone?"- of course germanys gonna welcome them if their government wants new jobs.Any country would.Btw: german companies have done exactly the same thing in Finland. Its called globalization and every pissed of german-jerk should comprehend the meaning of it.
well, i don't think that germany would be depending on finnland, to create new jobs.
there are enough european and other countries who are willing and eager to open their businesses in germany, which lies in the middle of europe (location, location) and has a population of over 80 million people.
after nokia's style of handeling business ethics, it maid be difficult for other finnish companies to gain german's trust again and open businesses there.
I think your opinion is very far-fetched idealism that does not exist in real life. Germany or any other European high-cost country simply cannot pick up which businesses they want to have an which not. Instead, in the future they have to take all they are offered. By the way, Germans or German firms have no reason to moralise anyone elses business ethics. Have you ever heard of Siemens Networks-the real forerunner of international business ethics? Take few seconds to think those affected by it!
well nokia is certainly going to make more money in Romania, mainly because it can pay a less ammount of money as salaries, that's why it's moving it's factory there.
and by the way...almoast every country has been in the war in the past and i think there is not even one country that could say, we fought a war without any damage to anyone.
if you read history and have knowlegde from the past, you should know that in a way we got our independency with the help of germans.
read more and then come here to discuss about
burning lappland. i'm sorry about that too, but if it was necessary for us to be free, so be it.
41 milionen euros subventzionen ist got in Deutchland aber eine kleine imbold fur Nokia is not gud in Rumenia?! Aber rumeniens mast pupiren Nokia in curiren uber mutatzionen der nokia fabrik in Rumenia. Aber vas for di deutchers macht zer big scandal? Die rumeniens mast arbeiten in Rumenia not in Eurolandia!
It's sorry to read all those comments what you wrote to Finland. Why you are blaiming us? We didn't decided that Nokia moves that factory in Romania. And why finns are blaiming germans? They just lose those jobs! I think that this song go little to far. We also shold remember that Nokia isn't only factory wicth are closing, so why blame Nokia so hard?
its not a problem of Germany alone Money rules the world and not many have this money in his hands
the End of Capitalism is I(especially Bill Gates) have all the money and all the others have to do what I say "i am the man with the most money" and all the others are loosers
Hey wtf? Why everyone are blaiming eacht others? I like germans and it's great country. I understand Nokia because it is 11 times cheaper do those phones in romania. It's sorry that you loose 2000 jobs but that is globalisation. Every expencive country have same problem, also in Finland. I think that everyone should think what they gonna say! Calm down please!
Germany is one of the most EUROPEAN country, and a real CULTURE COUNTRY other than us who have fell off the trees some hundreds of years ago, and germany HAS BEEN our friend (and we do not have a lot of friends) , but i wonder if it will be it in the future, now when they see your comments here.
Yes come on don't let me stop you, keep on showing the germans and the world what kind of idiots you are.. even GWB is intelligent compared with you.
oh my god! what does burning lappland to do with this subject here? that was like 100 years ago!i bet you don't even understand what the guy is singing. i do and i can tell you, the song is absolutely harmless and pure german humor. there is a carneval going on in germany and they are going to sing many other songs regarding politics or subjects which are concerning people and they make fun about
own goverment too. this happens every year so don't take it too seriously and mix lappland to this
And to you idiotic finns, who say here "germany is shit country" etc. you are just those idiots who imitate and "love" that fcking rotten corrupted ANGLO-AMERICAN culture, finland has said to be "the most american country in the EU", there's just too many of you "home-yanks" here in finland, being honest, i dispise and feel sorry for you.
I have always known that there are idiots in every nation, but my own people (finnish) represent the lousiest morons here. I'm even more shamed. Look at the comments of "TheBlackPriest" and "ravex85" - i can't believe these these morons really live in the same country than i. The Germany and i believe every nation in Europe has smarter people than Finns. I have never met such rednecks in Germany than these moron Finns here.. all other EU citizens can behave themselves but not Finns.
ja sinäkö luulet olevas parempi ja "älykkäämpi" ku muut täällä suomessa. Ai mut hei "The Germany and i believe every nation in Europe has smarter people than Finns"-tarkottaen et haukut samalla ittes tyhmemmäks ku muun euroopan ihmiset.Idiootti! :D

Nokia fucking wtfpwnt you guys, muhah.. MUHAHAH!
Only goddamn good thing about germany is that it's far away from me..
Its true that the german ppl are going abit to far with this thing.. PPl at here, finland first thought that the germans are right but they are loosing there willing in too.. WE ARE UPSET FFS
Hei no offence but it's not National Socialism no more. The german people let that go a long time a go and thought that they are willing to forget any past mistakes. Everyone is going after the money, it rules for the time being.
P.S. Don't bother with my profile i'm from Romania
I agree with you. Why are the germans so angry to Nokia, when their own carindustry has done exactly the same thing and much before Nokia. And hey, the german Nokia-workers dismission wages are much higher than for example the Nokia-workers in Finland. The german Siemens can together with Nokia become a winner, so it should help also the german economy. So, be optimistic. Try to get a new job within german carindustry!
Hi!I have nothing against the Germans.I am one of the Nokia owners.I have got the power to vote in Nokia.I´m not a big owner, but I like to have maximum dividend for my stocks.Nokia´s move was justified.Remember that.I`m almost guilty too.

German workers should kick out IG Metall of their working places - that is the organization that makes operating a business in Germany impossible. Nokia operates in other high-cost countries like the UK, but there employees are flexible due to the fact that there is no union that makes everything so rigid like IGM.

arbeitslose kaufen keine (nokia)handys!

Where was EU when globalization scrapped our electronics manufacturing?
zefvor 3 years ago
I know this is reply late... but the reaction was so harsh because Nokia received 40 Million EUR of subsidies to build the factory in Bochum. This behavior is not in line with many people's business ethics. It would be interesting to see if sales went down in Germany since the story is already dead and buried.

vloplob 3 years ago 2

I f Hitler would have won the war, every great company with the character of the nokia management would investigate in Nazi-großdeutschland because there are labour- concentration camps with extremely cheap working slaves. Nowaday its China and a underdeveloped country like roumania where you can find thousands of enslaved workers and concentration camps in which the Nokias make their max. profit. Thats globalization of today, the realization of Adolf Hitlers dream of a worldwide slavery.
ichmalealsobinich 3 years ago
no, it's called free trade and market and the fact that work is cheaper in Romania only means better business for Nokia...I don't see a reason for getting upset other than they got left with no jobs but guess what, that's just how capitalism works...so don't go preaching communism, cuz' we know all about how THAT WORKED OUT :)
makilex 3 years ago

I'm pretty sure that the political campaign, elections have been the origin of growth of hatred and scandal.
dancrgt 4 years ago

That would be bad for Germany in the future.
ptrh07 4 years ago 5
ptrh07 4 years ago 2
singing about this issue is ok. but the only thing that really helps is when people start buying things that are produced nearby. then the nokias of this world have to factor this into their decision making.

So much to globeslaveisation
setaeemil 4 years ago 2
So why do I not get a job there and why are the expections for worker in another countrys less and here in germany so high?
nicki0003 4 years ago
Everybody expects to pay less for the products they buy without realising the fact that ultimately it would cost them their jobs, and the state would have to support them, and the taxes will raise and so on. Like I've said before, for example, China didn't have a shipbuilding industry per se, before the european shipowners begun building their ships there and now most of the european shipyards are closed! The fact is, the Western Europe is simply too expensive to be profitable!
egomaniac76 4 years ago
"Germans by the way, are also very hard working people." That's absolutely true. But they also have a tendency to see themselves above anybody else. The fact is, this is globalization, today is Romania, tomorrow it will be Russia or China or Vietnam. The problem was at the begining of this trend, this shouldn't have to hapened. The Nokias should be made only in Finland, the BMWs only in Germany, etc. But then the people would complain about the prices
egomaniac76 4 years ago 2
The conflict between Nokia and Bochum shouldn't have anything to do with some grazy guy and dictator from austria who did terrible things to other people. I just can't pull that out every time, when germans are trying to get back to normal life and are defending themselves. I can't accuse the whole nation like 2000 years from now, because of him. When is this going to ghange?
Germans by the way, are also very hard working people.
setaeemil 4 years ago
Absolutely agree with you, but as soon as Germans have something to complain, i start to read about "burning lappland", natzis ect.
Why everybody still uses that, knowing their weakness and shamefull past, to shut them up or accuse them beeing natzis??
We are living year 2008. That generation is almost gone. I have many german friends and many friends from different ethnic groups too.
I have lived in germany and they are really friendly people. I don't get this oldfashion thinking.
setaeemil 4 years ago
They gave their aid to Nokia in the beginning, thinking Nokia stays there and offers jobs. As soon as aid stopped, Nokia took its factory somewhere else.
I'm Finn too, but i don't want to be unfair Finn. It's time for Germany to change their image as "European social office"and open their mouth when they feel so. Everybody else has the same right.Germans have been paying enough because of their past and new generations shouldn't be suffering because of that anymore.Past is past.
setaeemil 4 years ago
I have been following this discussion here and to be honest, can't see where it's going.
Can't you realize that germans are not mad at finnland, but Nokia and they feel betrayed and disappointed because of the way Nokia has been handeling the situation.
Germany has been the biggest financial donator and supporter in europe when it comes to development countries, including Romenien.
Private citizens send money and packages to those countries.Let's be fair, everyone knows that.

I think it is, and so is the right to denounce it no matter WHO does it and WHERE he does it.

nokia is not bankrubt, why risk relationships to country like germany?
what if in the future nokia or other finnish companies want to open businessies i germany?
is germany going to wellcome them now when the "trust"is gone?
honestly i think, it's not always about money
and nokia is risking possibilities for other finnish companies too, acting so moneyhungry alltough the company is doing well.that's the point, they are doing well.

uSuqMaDik 4 years ago
well, i don't think that germany would be depending on finnland, to create new jobs.
there are enough european and other countries who are willing and eager to open their businesses in germany, which lies in the middle of europe (location, location) and has a population of over 80 million people.
after nokia's style of handeling business ethics, it maid be difficult for other finnish companies to gain german's trust again and open businesses there.
you got to think things in the long run.
setaeemil 4 years ago
I think your opinion is very far-fetched idealism that does not exist in real life. Germany or any other European high-cost country simply cannot pick up which businesses they want to have an which not. Instead, in the future they have to take all they are offered. By the way, Germans or German firms have no reason to moralise anyone elses business ethics. Have you ever heard of Siemens Networks-the real forerunner of international business ethics? Take few seconds to think those affected by it!

"...transferring production to lower-cost factories in Hungary, Romania and Finland."
WTF!? Finland is a WAY expensive country than Germany... Nowadays it's even more expensive than Japan!
I'm not sure, but I strongly believe that the standard of living has also been higher in Finland than in Germany after the World War2.

Get a new job, its not hard if you really want it. It sucks but i think nokia itse the best phone company still and this dont make change for that.

German workers should kick out IG Metall of their working places - that is the organization that makes operating a business in Germany impossible. Nokia operates in other high-cost countries like the UK, but there employees are flexible due to the fact that there is no union that makes everything so rigid like IGM.
