My great grandfather was one of the 5000Asante men who went to war with Yaa Asantewaa against the British in this conflict. He was from Sewia. My great grandmother was pregnant with my grandfather at the time. My great grandfather perished in this war. As a result my grandfather never knew his father. It's a source of pride and sadness. My grandfather was Adomako Mensah, a prominent goldsmith who made some magnificent jewelry for the Asante and Denkyira royals. I miss Ghana.
Great Work my sista Akua. This was very imformative and educational, I have learned a lot from this. This justifies my reason for being a proud GHANIAN!
all africans are the children of the acient egyptians kemet asjanti are a warrior race of westafrica most people tinhk only zulu are the only warrior tribe of africa those peole are sleeping
I am not quite sure they were doing it to prevent themselves from being enslaved. I think there is much more to it than you say. Anyway, I have not forgotten nor forgiven anyone for slavery, Ashante nor European.I just find it strange that you guys were collaborators with the Europeans, then when they turned their backs and fooled you, you suddenly are suppose to be so proud and rebellious.
@akua1969 honestly where have've u been getting your information? Ashantis were slave dealers? It seems our history is been changed as well as others around the world.
WOW i didnt even known the ashanti dealt with the slave dealing...thats messed up my family is from the geechee islands of SC and slavery is one thing we dont take kindly and plus witn the lady in part one said they dont like injustice ways...thats messed up!
Thank you for posting this story about Asantewaa... I hope that in the future the next generation will read the real history of Africa in general and the history of Ghana in particulier... Again, thank you...

slave dealers!
Awahyaase 3 years ago
The Ashanti were indeed dealers in slaves as means to prevent their own people from becoming enslaved.
was this a good thing? no.
and the Ashanti and Ghana goverments have apologised, celebrate emacipation and contact ceremonies for returning people of the diaspora.
what have thoes who really benefited from slavery done.
there are still many women and children all over the world sold into slavery. we should all be doing something about it
