I went to an auction yesterday and their was this guy their and you could tell he was from a slaughter house and he tried to outbid my dad on this horse that was beautiful and my dad was going to stop and I told my dad to keep going I would help pay and we outbid him, I was so happy that I saved the horse but I just wish I could save all of them, the saddest day of my life :'(

I am a Rancher in Colorado. Thanks to Bo Dereck and her efforts by getting legislation passed to prevent the consumption of horse flesh. Horses are now going for about $100.00 at the auctions They are a liability to own and are starving because people can't get rid of them when they can't afford to feed them anymore. Their misguided and best of intentions have relegated the horse to becoming the least valuable of all domestic animals.
These once prized and pampered animals are now worthless.

What really upsets me is the inhumane ways that the horses are put through because it is illegla to slaughter them in the U.S. Sent to Mexico and Canada . . . and Japan, where they are treated horribly until they are killed. Please, I do not mean no harm, but it was much more humane when it was llegal in the United States.

While I totally agree with each post about the spelling and grammar, I think we should focus much more on the video itself. Besides, I'm sure the person who made this video is, by now, VERY well aware of what the majority of us think of her spelling and grammar. Hey it's good that they got rid of the fucking horse plants here man. Now all we have to do is fight to get the other plants closed for good. It's not right to send a horse you don't want anymore to slaughter. Why not just put them down the humane way, euthanasia people, every heard of that word before. It may cost at least a hundred bucks, but that's the best way to do it. Or even donating your horse to programs who might want them for kids who want to learn how to ride or even lease them.

i totally get what people are saying about how now people cant auction their horses, but if you make the commitment to buy a horse you should also make a commitment to care for it, or at least make sure it gets a home that can actually take care of the poor thing. i have no idea how people deal with the guilt of being involved in this industry. couldnt the do it a little bit more humanely?

Most disturbing are the images of abuse and neglect. I would rather be sent to slaughter myself then left to starve, suffer and die. More needs to be done to protect horses who have provided so much for the people who own them. The race horse industry needs to make regulations for the care of it's horses after their racing careers are done. Maybe a percentage of the horses winning should be set aside!

I'm for horse slaughter, but I am against how inhumane the horses are treated throughout the process. What most people don't know is that a large majority of these animals are brought to the stock yard already beaten, abused, and neglected. On some level, I believe these animals are better off dead if they are being treated in such a manor. I will never eat horse meat; however, I want condemn another culture for choosing to do so. I just want them take good care of in life and in death!!!

You can't just free a domesticated horse into a herd of wild horses and expect it to live. First, it won't be accepted into the herd. There's a pecking order and chances are the domesticated horse isn't going to know how to fight. It also won't know how to LIVE in the wild after being cared for its entire life.

well a lot of these photos are of horses that died in fields or have been dead a very long time, which happens when horses roam free in the giant pastures of the west and other photos are of horses that have been abused by their owners and that has nothing to do with horse slaughter. Humane horse slaughter ends abuse. Who is to pay the thousands of dollars a year to prolong the life of injured or dangerous horses, cows, dogs?

She does this on her own and she needs HELP! She was featured on ESPN and HBO. Meanwhile, there are many other places that rescue horses such as "Guardian Angels Assistance."

Some people eat hamburgers, others eat bacon, some chicken, and some eat horse meat. This is life. There are over 100,000 horses EVERY year that are labled as "unwanted." what is happening to these horses? They're not in a loving home, they're starving to death somewhere bc no one can or wants to take them. Stopping slaughter doesn't end the abuse...

Instead of completely shutting down slaughter houses, the issues with abuse should've been dealt with. Proper trailers, feeding, watering, massive fines for those who bring hurt horses etc. And I agree that every horse may be wanted by someone, but that someone may not be able to take care of the horse.

Now, all these horses have to spend days on transports to get to Canada or Mexico, where they get slaughtered in truly heinous conditions. But, hey, it's not in your backyard anymore...

If you are too squeamish or simply too ignorant to handle the reality and necessity of euthanization, please just stay away from all things equine.

Sorry to disillusion you, but the last horse slaughter facility in the U.S. closed in June of 2007, so you are clearly mistaken about any horse-meat coming from the "stats".
Now, the price of feed is so high, the rescues in my area are giving them away for a $25 adoption fee, and they're being starved to death. Frankly, slaughter is much more humane than starvation.

You know what happens when Horse slaugter is banned... People cant afford to feed a million animals and just start leaving them to starve. Americans have opened a whole can of shit by banning slaughter. Now horses must endure hours of trucking to Canada or Mexico, or be subjet to months or years of neglet.

I am a Rancher in Colorado. Thanks to Bo Dereck and her efforts by getting legislation passed to prevent the consumption of horse flesh. Horses are now going for about $100.00 at the auctions They are a liability to own and are starving because people can't get rid of them when they can't afford to feed them anymore. Their misguided and best of intentions have relegated the horse to becoming the least valuable of all domestic animals.
These once prized and pampered animals are now worthless.

@TheBoogieman7 While I do not support horse slaughter, I do agree that horses are being mistreated and are becoming less of the unique beings they are. What really upsets me is the inhumane ways that the horses are put through because it is illegla to slaughter them in the U.S. Sent to Mexico and Canada . . . and Japan, where they are treated horribly until they are killed. Please, I do not mean no harm, but it was much more humane when it was llegal in the United States.

While I totally agree with each post about the spelling and grammar, I think we should focus much more on the video itself. Besides, I'm sure the person who made this video is, by now, VERY well aware of what the majority of us think of her spelling and grammar. Yes, it's appauling, yes, it's disgusting, horrible and a shame but this is a video about horses and not what they do or don't teach in schools these days nor how little attention this person may have paid attention while in school.

I'd much rather put a horse down rather than send it to slaughter!
However, FAR too many people seem to "forget" what a HUGE part the horse played in the making of this country! If not for the horse, who knows where we'd be today? We owe the horse much more than we can ever repay! We should treat them with the respect, honour and love they deserve!!!
It's just a shame that the breeding wasn't left solely to we Native Americans! And the training as well!

Hey it's good that they got rid of the fucking horse plants here man. Now all we have to do is fight to get the other plants closed for good. It's not right to send a horse you don't want anymore to slaughter. Why not just put them down the humane way, euthanasia people, every heard of that word before. It may cost at least a hundred bucks, but that's the best way to do it. Or even donating your horse to programs who might want them for kids who want to learn how to ride or even lease them.

i totally get what people are saying about how now people cant auction their horses, but if you make the commitment to buy a horse you should also make a commitment to care for it, or at least make sure it gets a home that can actually take care of the poor thing. i have no idea how people deal with the guilt of being involved in this industry. couldnt the do it a little bit more humanely?

Most disturbing are the images of abuse and neglect. I would rather be sent to slaughter myself then left to starve, suffer and die. More needs to be done to protect horses who have provided so much for the people who own them. The race horse industry needs to make regulations for the care of it's horses after their racing careers are done. Maybe a percentage of the horses winning should be set aside!

I'm for horse slaughter, but I am against how inhumane the horses are treated throughout the process. What most people don't know is that a large majority of these animals are brought to the stock yard already beaten, abused, and neglected. On some level, I believe these animals are better off dead if they are being treated in such a manor. I will never eat horse meat; however, I want condemn another culture for choosing to do so. I just want them take good care of in life and in death!!!

You can't just free a domesticated horse into a herd of wild horses and expect it to live. First, it won't be accepted into the herd. There's a pecking order and chances are the domesticated horse isn't going to know how to fight. It also won't know how to LIVE in the wild after being cared for its entire life.

well a lot of these photos are of horses that died in fields or have been dead a very long time, which happens when horses roam free in the giant pastures of the west and other photos are of horses that have been abused by their owners and that has nothing to do with horse slaughter. Humane horse slaughter ends abuse. Who is to pay the thousands of dollars a year to prolong the life of injured or dangerous horses, cows, dogs?

She does this on her own and she needs HELP! She was featured on ESPN and HBO. Meanwhile, there are many other places that rescue horses such as "Guardian Angels Assistance."

@djbetotheno Most of the ho'rses sent to slaughter are from RACE TRACKS. They didn't RUN fast enough! More abuse is also caused from kids who "HAVE to have a horse!" Then they get interested in boys/girls and forget about their horse or they go off to college and NO ONE bothers to care for the horse!

Some people eat hamburgers, others eat bacon, some chicken, and some eat horse meat. This is life. There are over 100,000 horses EVERY year that are labled as "unwanted." what is happening to these horses? They're not in a loving home, they're starving to death somewhere bc no one can or wants to take them. Stopping slaughter doesn't end the abuse...

Instead of completely shutting down slaughter houses, the issues with abuse should've been dealt with. Proper trailers, feeding, watering, massive fines for those who bring hurt horses etc. And I agree that every horse may be wanted by someone, but that someone may not be able to take care of the horse.

Congratulations to the anti-horse slaughter people. The last horse slaughter facility in the US has been closed for over a year.
Now, all these horses have to spend days on transports to get to Canada or Mexico, where they get slaughtered in truly heinous conditions. But, hey, it's not in your backyard anymore...
No wonder the Veterinary Associations warned against the closure of these plants. Now the horses really suffer.

Sorry to disillusion you, but the last horse slaughter facility in the U.S. closed in June of 2007, so you are clearly mistaken about any horse-meat coming from the "stats".
Now, the price of feed is so high, the rescues in my area are giving them away for a $25 adoption fee, and they're being starved to death. Frankly, slaughter is much more humane than starvation.

Down here, horses have a $25 adoption fee, and they STILL can't find homes. People are literally letting them starve, simply because they aren't worth fattening up for slaughter. The Veterinarian Association was, and continues to be, correct on the subject.

This is exactly what i want to do to the people who abuse and kill all animals, not just horses.
I will break their legs so they cant run away. Then, bone by bone, ill break their arms and ribs. Then ill cut them up and say, how do you feel about what you have done now? Then ill just take a gun and shoot them. In my opinion, they deserve it.

This isn't right, at all. I don't understand how people can do that to animals.. just beat them and take them off to slaughter houses. How would they feel if their pets gotten beaten and taken to slaughter houses? I understand they do it for food, but we DON'T NEED meat.
In reality;; NOT eating meat is healthier.

All this shit is bullcrap. HOrse slaughter saves thousands of horses of being abused and neglected. Hardly ANY of these pics are from an actual slaughter house. And when they are in the chutes notice they are FAT and well muscled. Slaughter houses dont want shit horses. What your wanting is horses to be turned out to starve. But ignorance is bliss. Hell yes I'm a horse lover and hell yes I would takemy horse to slaughter if it meant torture for 2 days rather than 5 months.

Omg! These pics r so sad! My friend saved a sick paint from the slaughterhouse and nursed her back to health. She's a really nice horse!!! Horse slaughter needs to end! It's just cruel and disgusting!

@xxOLOSx no we don't make leather jackets out of them, what happens is their shipped from all over the country to one facility. crammed into manure filled paddocks, pushed into cement walls to make a line to the stockade than shot in the head with a "stun gun" hung by their back legs slit in the throat, their front legs get chopped off and than their heads. the meat is sent to over seas' restaurants. Horse meat is a ''delicasey'' over there...
