You definitely have the chops and your getting through this with great technical proficiency (though your fingers fly off the keys a little at times), but I might suggest rounding out your tone and vibrato a little. Still a great performance, but saxophone always has room for improvement in my opinion.
I might recommend backing off on the higher notes and less emphasis on notes that should not be emphasized, it will improve your musicality dramatically :)
You can play high F# on the saxophone as well. Not to mention, that there are thousands ways to play overtones!! Right now I'm aiming at the high A... Ouch!
Woah! The saxophonist highest note is what I'm aiming to reach now! If not wrong it's F natural? I love her low notes also! Steady and wif vibrato! Bravo! A performance thats super well done! :D
A beautiful and dynamic classical piece played by two very talented musicians. Kim Sul-Ki's thought provoking and stunning saxophone play, equally matched and complemented by her friend's thoughtful creativity on the Grand Piano. Both instruments played with discreet, artistic efficiency.....and the low-key, but classy backdrop and stage presentation creates a mood of solemn wistfulness that only enhances their performance. Thanks to KedyKim for uploading the video and sharing it with us all.
@shysaxguy, Dale is a personal acquaintance, and he plays with our community band once a year, and sax playing doesn't get any better than him, especially when it comes to altissimo register!
@XdarkdomainX tounging issue could be partly the quality of the recording, you can only really judge stuff to do with tone and attack if your there or have a really good quality recording.
hi i amr from deuto agency for music i like your video so mutch and want to invite you like to work in egypt .hurgdha .if u like pls contact me at amro_music222@yahoo.com thanks
Great job! I know the difficulty in this song and you did a wonderful job! In my not so humble opinion this is one of the best saxophone charts out there.
Hello, i'm only a sophomore in High School, i did Diversion this year just got a I rating on it, going on to state, but i'm already looking for a solo for next year, do you reccomend this, is it tough?
@drakolan Pieces with more musical substance, more interesting material, and better craftsmanship. If you want specific examples... Glazunov _Concerto_; Creston _Sonata_; Denisov _Sonatas_; Richard Rodney Bennett _Sonata_ (soprano); Berio _Sequenzas_; Dahl _Concerto_; Albright _Sonata_; Matheson _Pull_; any of a number of pieces by Jacob ter Veldhuis... (That's a start.)
Man, I've been playing the sax for more than 40 years and this little girl just showed me that the alto could be tongued faster than I thought possible. Her intonation was pretty good on certain notes that tend to go out of tune. If she keeps playing, she is going to be a monster.
I like the fearlessness of the performer, but on the other hand, this performance sounds like somebody beating a hammer on a table, it needs to be more elegant.
There are some stylistic things I really do enjoy here. Sometimes I think your sound's a bit too spread, which causes some issues with the notes responding clearly. Some of the issues are also just inherent on certain horns (yours looks to be a Yamaha?). It's hard to say anything critiquing because performances are so situational... the hall looks to be fairly large. Just be sure to make sure the articulations aren't too heavy. That, and altissimo intonation (something I myself am guilty of).
Tough piece and very demanding. I think you played this too soon i.e. Its too hard for you. technically you were good but your tone needs work and the piece needs more sensitivity. Work on sound production more and pay attention to musicality. Well done for playing from memory though :-)
I agree. It definitely comes through on the Largo section, when a more developed sound would have helped. During most of the largo section I was cringing. Technically very good, but yes, her sound does need work.
Very beautiful.
The music of course.

The saxophone IS a classical instrument. It was used in classical music well before it was used in jazz.
vaudvillesax 2 years ago 2
Hey wat`s up with you? The saxophone was created in 1846 like a classical instrument, maybe you don`t like but it don`t is important.
