Remember when music used to mean something? Like really mean something??? 1990 - 1996 is when I really liked music, so therefore, the mathematics can prove, unequivocally that this is the only period of time that ever produced good music. Everything else just doesn't compare. Oh yeah, 3 people uh....went into the sun. LIKE THIS COMMENT NOW!!!!!!
This song is so outside the realm of anything I normally listen to, and I'm not sure when I first heard it. That said, there is just one word for this song, those lyrics, and SC's voice: HAUNTING...
My sister was a housewife for 12 years and kind of went mad over the years, she had an affair and got a divorce. She burnt all of the pictures of them similar to the haunting bridge of this song, (no she didn't burn the house). I feel bad for her and my former brother in law but both worlds were messed up. She's allright but he is very sad still and he wasn't a bad guy she just didn't like that life.
It's about a repressed and abused (perhaps even cheated) housewife that finally snaps and takes the kids with her as she sets her house and her belongings on fire.
Such an awesome song, brings back memories of high school...
I probably heard this song on the radio back in the '90s but didn't think much of it then....cut to 14 years later, and I read about this song in the Alex Lemon memoir 'Happy', and how this song reminded him of a friend he knew who died....now this song reminds me of his book, which is really good.
Wow this was one of my fav songs when I was little. I never knew how serious and haunting the meaning it was tho... it reminds me of a movie like "Carrie" or "orphan" or something.
It may sound funny to some people the association I have with this song....I first heard it while i was a dishwasher @ IHOPin Abilene,TX and one of the servers there loved that song....btw if you are reading this....awesome...(loved workin w/ ya)
I heard this on the radio one day, and thought it was a newer song, then discovered it's from 1996! I was lucky enough to find this on a CD! I was so happy!

I love this song, but it is kind of sad. If I'm not mistake, this is about "Sunny" killing herself, right?

@RRainey20 I think it's about her setting her house on fire and escaping with the kids... might be wrong though

Love the song. Only Shawn Colvin can make a song about a frustrated wife who burns down her own house sound beautiful.

Could you please put the lyrics in the description? I know all the lyrics, but it would be nice for those who don't. Thanks. :)

I don't know why they gave you thumbs down, I can see why you'd think that but when I first heard it I didn't think it was her.
