@Colleptic In the early 70s, several SM & DS were entered into the Marrocan Rally by the Citroen racing division. The driving conditions were very hard. They won top places several times. There is some period film showing the teams, with some impressive driving section.
I'm drivin an old Citroen with this suspension for nearly 250000 Miles and it never broke down and is very, very comfortable and practical if maintained properly, which is really easy and cheap to manage.
Rolls-Royce and Mercedes used similar systems in their most expensive cars.
Mercedes actually licensed the design from Citroen for their 450SEL 6.9. So basically that car uses a Citroen-designed suspension. Mercedes also added a few improvements to it but the design and origins are from Citroen. Coincidentally, Citroen and Mercedes are my two most favorite car brands. These are emotional brands that bring a smile to my face with their innovations, cars, style and history. Lexus? BORING.
I dont dont know wiith all this glitzy crap on the road theres gonna be a scrap yard of very pretty cars very soon as they are full of ECUs and with labour costs its going to kill them once private owners take them on,
...and you have to see the european version of the SM, which was much more beautiful than the american version (it also had directional headlight). And they didnt' talk about the UNIQUE comfort of the ride... magic carpet like.
At first I said to myself, "WTF." But that suspension trick at the end was awesome, especially to be a 40 year car. All I can say is, "Je veux une voiture française!" lol
Very cool and very interesting. I agree, cars no-days are slightly boring and are mainly used to profit. Build the cheapest car, from the cheapest parts, make it functional and sell at a profit.
this is what the car industry is missing! hmmmm how can i explian this.... every car made these days are made just for numbers and profits, sure profits is needed to keep companies going, but they need to show more compassion for their cars, not just slap them together on assmbley line and call it a day.
one of the best fld has brought to us. loving alex roy on the show. what a car. makes me proud to be european. it's odd, coz as a european, ive always dreamt of owning an american classic and apparently the americans want our classics :D citroen don't make em like they used to which is a shame. they are bringin back the DS name over here, but it will never live up to the classic DS. i wonder if alex will trade an m5 for one of these? :P
that is seriously one of the coolest things ever and really needs to be incorperated into new cars and possible an aftermarked application onto older cars
I always knew citroen had something crazy in their suspension but never had a chance to see it ...... awesome car , really worth the trip to buy it ......
i like it becuase it makes green look serious and agressive, i hate new green car designs they look werid and childish and most of all cheap, at least this thing has chrome to make it look heavier modern compact cars are just plastic cheap boxes with barley any detail
God, that noise.. sounds beautiful. Even for a car made in the 70s. It sounds extraordinary! Although I love the sound of my new CBE, that engine sounds really nice and grumbly. gotta love it.
@TheJsHep LOL What I meant is that back then taste was different and what today may look awful was the BOMB back then. I'm talking about the car btw =)
it looked like a crappy old car, but its not at all!!! there are things on this cars that should have be carried on for generations. what i wanna know is why there wasn't more cars like this created after the 70's?
old citroens = shit. unreliable, expensive suspension, and very difficult and annoying to replace, but I guess non of those things matter because beutey is a subjective thing

The SM was NOT designed in a wind tunnel.
It was designed, built, then tested in a wind tunnel.
