No question Reagan had a great sense of humor, but most of it was scripted. That loud off-stage popping noise at 0:38 was obviously staged. You can tell by Reagan's quick reaction and response to it ("missed me"). That was too obvious to have been ad-libbed.
Sure it could have been an ad-lib. If this was after the attempt on his life and he heard that popping noise he might have thought for a heart pounding micro second that it was someone else trying to kill him. That could prompt him to make that little nervous joke when he got a big happy rush of relief. or not.

One man can make a difference. It's about helping the rich, individual greed, personal ignorance and charging money to the Natl Debt. Under Reagan's watch, the rich got richer, the savings and loans defaulted for more than $600 BILLION (added to NATL DEBT), the Soviet Union collapsed (JFK won the biggest battle in 1962) and Nancy Reagan spent a 1/4 of a million dollars on dinner plates. Employment rose because Reagan spent $200 BILLION a year and CHARGED IT to the Natl Debt.

One of Reagan's best lines came when he was governor of California. An anti war protester confronted him face to face. Later that day, he was asked about the incident and Reagan said,"He was built like Tarzan, dressed like Jane and smelled like Cheetah."

when R-e-a-g-a-n (hows that?) said missed me was that a reference to his assassination attempt. He seemed like he was laughing off a sudden rush of fear in that clip.

No question Reagan had a great sense of humor, but most of it was scripted. That loud off-stage popping noise at 0:38 was obviously staged. You can tell by Reagan's quick reaction and response to it ("missed me"). That was too obvious to have been ad-libbed.
Still funny, but no accident.

Sure it could have been an ad-lib. If this was after the attempt on his life and he heard that popping noise he might have thought for a heart pounding micro second that it was someone else trying to kill him. That could prompt him to make that little nervous joke when he got a big happy rush of relief. or not.
