  • I figured out what I was doing wrong thanks to the video. I'm glad it was a Sony HDV camera. As I watched I saw what capture format he used and once I used the same it is recording in HDV. Thank you for the video!

  • @LifeInMotionVideo We're glad to hear it!

  • I got the VC102 back yesterday but did not try it out until today. The good news is it works. The bad news is I have yet to figure out how to get it to record HDV footage. I have a Sony HDR-HC1 and if I change the setting to convert HDV to DV out the the recorder then I am able to record. If I leave it as HDV out it will not let me record. I have the feeling I am doing something wrong. Will update if I get it right.

  • No problem with the video and am sure it would be quite helpful if I could get the VC102 to work. My issue is with technical support or rather the lack thereof. I have tried to get an issue resolved for a week and a solution has not been found yet. I hope my case is an isolated one. I was thrilled with the purchase but cannot get the VC102 to work even after doing all tech support has told me to do. They seem stumped by the issue as well.

  • @LifeInMotionVideo Sorry to hear you're having trouble. We understand you've already been in touch with technical support, but please send us a personal message with the best way to reach you so someone can contact you to try to solve the problem.

  • @MaxellProMedia Thank you, I am waiting for a call back from Brian. The trouble has been when someone who can help is available I am at home. I hope to have this resolved today. I have no doubt this is a great product and mean no disrespect to Maxell. I believe this will soon no longer be an issue.

  • @LifeInMotionVideo I mean not at home.

  • @LifeInMotionVideo Just got off the phone with Brian and was told I should be contacted within 48 hours after further research has been done. Evidently this is the exception and not the norm.

  • @LifeInMotionVideo glad you connected with Brian. Let us know how everything works out. We've had a lot of positive feedback on the VC102 and we think you'll be pleased!

  • @MaxellProMedia Just thought I would post an update. The VC102 was returned for evaluation and it turns out the fire wire port is inoperable. I have been assured this will be fixed, tested and returned. I will post again once I have the unit back and have had a chance to test it. I am looking forward to getting it back and anxious to use it!

  • @LifeInMotionVideo Thanks for the update. Please keep us posted!

  • @LifeInMotionVideo It seems another user experienced similar issues with Sony Vegas 8 & came up with a fix on his own, which would probably apply in your case. We've sent you an inbox message with the detailed solution because it would not fit in this response area. Please continue to keep us updated!

  • @MaxellProMedia Thank you for a possible solution. I have been informed by tech support that the issue is an inoperable firewire port. The port is being repaired and I am awaiting the return of the VC102.

  • @LifeInMotionVideo In all fairness to Maxell I did not give tech support enough time to investigate the problem. I was excited to get the VC102 and was disappointed when it did not work. Tech support has followed through and found the problem and is repairing.

  • @MaxellProMedia Thank you for your prompt response, I use Sony Vegas, and .MOV files sometimes are not to good to wk with, Vegas will us .M2T wich is what I been rendering my videos, I had it set to .AVI, but then I have to convert to .M2T? so basically, there is no setting for straight .M2T files? Thanks you Sir!

  • @GiLLavin Setting the VC102 recording format to QT (QuickTime .mov) is all that is necessary. When the VC102 is set to that format and detects HD video coming in on the Firewire port, it automatically converts the incoming HD video to m2t files. After recording some video, you'll see that the recorded files that are stored on the iVDR-X cartridge are m2t video files.

  • @MaxellProMedia Thank u sir, I will try taht n get back, because On .AVI does not look good at ALL! I hope I did not waisted $ 800.00!

  • Yes Hi, I did get one of this drives just recently, how can I chage the format to be able to capture in my Native HDV 60i I'm using an Sony FX1, when I go to the menu, all I see is .AVI, .MOV, .Raw DV. or UD (user defined) under this one, that is it, have no mor to go, What I'm doing wrong? thanks!

  • @GiLLavin You should be able to address this by setting VC102 to the .mov format. As long as the camera is recording in HD, the VC102 will convert the files to .m2t files. You can then run a file converter if necessary to convert the files if your editing software doesn't recognize or accept m2t files. Please let us know if this helps!

  • @MaxellProMedia Thank you sir, I did what you said, it work perfect. Now, I got a lil problem and it might be because of my camera(sony FX1) I try to film some this weekend, but without a tape in the camera it will not record, that was the whole purpose in buying this drive, any suggestions on this one? thanks again sir!

  • @GiLLavin I'm glad we were able to help you solve your problem! As for your most recent question, the issue you are experiencing is definitely a function of the camera. There may or may not be a setting on the camera to allow recording with no tape installed, but we suggest you check your owner's manual or contact Sony to address this issue. Let us know if we can be of further assistance and good luck!

  • @MaxellProMedia Ok, def. I need to have the tape inside for this camera, and it's ok. Now the other problem I'm havin when I import the clips from the drive, and I import them to my editing program (sony vegas 11) some of the clips don't have audio, few do, few don't, if I play the clip by itself, the audio is there, but not present in vegas. Could it be the editing programg missing a codec of some kind? Any sugestions? Thanks again!

  • @GiLLavin We're are looking into this further, and will get back to you ASAP. We appreciate your patience.

  • Does this capture HDV and HD video?

  • @directormikkell It does capture HDV. As far as HD Video, please elaborate more.... As clarification, it will record in DVCPro100 if that is the basis of your question.

  • @MaxellProMedia Well, DVCPro 100 is a JVC format? What would happen if I have a Canon shooting HDV and I record in DVCPro 100, or would I only be able to record in traditional mpeg2 HDV?

  • @directormikkell - DVCPro was introduced by Panasonic in 1995 - Read all about it on Wikipedia by doing a quick search for DVCPro.

As far as recording different file formats and worrying about clips getting erased - it is not a problem. A user of the VC102 can, if they so choose- change formats for each clip that is recorded on to the iVDR cartridge. For example - the 1st clip could be saved in .MOV, the 2nd in .AVI, the 3rd in RAW DV, etc. We record HDV in its native format (M2T). Thanks.
