@foamyrant i wouldnt imagien u need to recompile the files would you? so the closest file to what an update size should be was about 320MG was a DMG file (which iTunes doesnt recognize as a restore file) and i changed the file extension from .dmg to .ipsw and the icon image changed and everything as if its the proper extension?

so is this going to fly even though i assume i shouldnt have needed to do that in the first place? need an opinion

@smulozrout well if your baseband is now 02.10.04 then you'll probably have to wait 2 months. Remember unlock has nothing to do with firmware 4.1 or whatever. It depends on your baseband which likely updated to 02.10.04 when you went to 4.1 :(

If you baseband is 02.10.04 then you'll have to wait for 4.2 jb and unlock (probably around January 1) If you're baseband is lower than that then ultrasn0w should work after you jailbreak it. Find baseband in General - About look at bottom for Modem Firmware. Your Version (firmware) 4.1 has to do with jb not unlock. Unlock depends on what your baseband (modem firmware) is

@johnnykii No. Do like I did in the video (be sure you have shsh for 4.1 and 4.0 saved). You should get 4.1 while keeping your 01.59.00 baseband. Nothing else should be affected. However, Back everything up in iTunes before you start. That is always the smart thing to do.

@MusicStation20 4.1 has to do with jailbreaking. Unlocking has to do with baseband. Your baseband is likely 02.10.04 which means you can't unlock until Dev team updates ultrasn0w to support whatever baseband comes with 4.2 firmware. Probably in January is my guess. If you are at lower baseband you can unlock

@DJAYMIX1 No, there is no way to downgrade the baseband on an iPhone 4. The only device that can downgrade baseband is the iPhone 3G (old bootloader). You can downgrade your firmware as long as you have the SHSH blobs saved, but not the baseband.

I am a newbie with Apple devices so bear with me...I have iPhone 4 with 4.02 iOS with the baseband at 01.059.00. When I open up Tiny Umbrella and save, it shows the 4.02 software, but when I save the SHSH file TinyUmbrella shows it as 4.1 with the correct baseband

@firehead327 I think you are getting jailbreaking and unlocking confused. You can go ahead and upgrade to 4.1 and jb with limera1n or greenpois0n. However, you will not be able to unlock your iPhone (so you can use it on another carrier like T-Mobile). You would have to have backed up your 4.0.2 shsh blob with TU before Apple's servers quit signing them when they went to 4.1.

There will be a new jb and unlock for 4.2 (and whatever baseband 4.2 creates) in about 3 months.

However, since you haven't previously saved your 4.0.2 shsh blob you can't now (Apple's servers aren't signing 4.0.2 anymore) Thus, you can't unlock at this time. I'd just upgrade to 4.1 so you get proximity sensor fix, HDR photos and Game Center and then jailbreak with Limera1n. Then hope for a new unlock for the higher baseband if you need one.

If you really need unlock stay at 4.0.2 and try limera1n and then ultrasn0w after you get cydia installed. I didn't need to do this. When I updated my phone it updated it to 4.1 but I got an error (I think it was 1004) and so I used RecBoot to get me out of recovery mode and when I checked my settings it said I had 4.1 but a baseband of 1.59.00. So if I use limerain when it comes out will it be able to unlock my phone for me right away also? Or what else can I do to unlock my phone after jailbreaking it? I REALLY need to unlock it or else I wont be able to use it. Thanks.

@Kingofhuztler No questions are dumb. Yes, baseband is only for iPhones. It has to do with unlocking your iPhone so you can use it on another carrier other than ATT (like T-Mobile in USA). Since you have iPod Touch you don't need to worry about it.
