Pacific Gas & Electric (a name later shortened to PG&E) was a blues-rock band from California (of course) consisting of lead singer Charles Allen, guitarists Glenn Schwartz and Tom Marshall, bassist Brent Brock and drummer Frank Cook. This record, featuing backup vocals by The Blackberries, reached #14 over a twelve-week run beginning May 30, 1970. None of their follow-ups. though. caused more than a tiny ripple and the group broke up. 20 years later, lead singer Allen died at age 46.
Glenn Schwartz on lead guitar. He'd gotten PROMOTED from lead guitar for the pre-Walsh James Gang. Glenn still pays regularly here in Cleveland - although his muse is clearly from some other plane of existence.
Takes me back to when I was 15,long hair , just kicking back and losing all sense of time. What magical times the 60's and 70's were. The best music ever to listen to.41 years later it still gets me moving.Long live rock and roll !!
This is so cool! I had a copy of this song back in '72, and I lost it! I've searched for nearly 30 years for a copy and here is one!! Good tune - been on my mind all this time - makes the hair on your neck prickle!! :-)

Thanks for the info on the two versions of this particular song. I had forgotten that and or didn't really know. My copy of the record is a promo copy with the shortened
version on one side (2:40) with the longer version on the other side (5:49). I did not
know until now that the longer version was on the other side. Thanks again for the info.
.... you're a lucky dude - not many copies of the short/long versions, back to back, have survived after so many years.. as a former DJ, I am officially jealous!
.... if you can, or know somebody who can, get the shorter version posted... would be interested to see how the "debate' on the versions would turn out !
This might help to clarify the debate on the 2 versions of this song, since I spun them both, back in the day....
The first version that was released was the short version. Within a matter of days, the second, longer version was released . Since most radio stations at the time received both copies, it was left up to the Program Director to make the choice which version was put into rotation. As you might expect, the longer version ended up the "FM" favorite: many AM stations
This song was big here in OKC as well as nationally. However, the local top 40 radio station edited it down and started it at the 43 second of your video where they sing "are you ready" cold. They also edited out a lot of the music in the center. I don't know if other stations did this or not. Would you beieve I was thinking of this record just last night. Good Post.

Yes, I'm ready! In 1972, I was living with my buddy Vern in Atlanta. We had to get up early for work and most every morning we put on this song to get us motivated for the day. I won't ever forget that. TY for posting it.
@rrtallon Wow, eerily similar to my experience! I was (but am no longer) one of the Jesus people and even attended the giant Explo 72 in Dallas. This song was just so durn'd cool and always motivated me.
@OBDjFH05 I was and still am one of the "Jesus People" and loved this song so much....I still have the 45. Those days were so special....it's hard to put them into words. i saw PG & E in a little nightclub in Milwaukee around 1972; i was 22. They were the 1st band followed by the Buddy Miles Express. Great Show! The guitar solo was tremendous. The guitarist walked thru the crowd while he played (still plugged in - no wireless back then. Maybe 400 total people were there. Think it cost around $5.00!
What people need to realize, however, is that when "He" comes, it won't be some white man descending form the clouds - you will see "Him" in the eyes of all those who have opened up their hearts, to Love and Truth! "The King" lives in all men, if their hearts are open to Him! So be READY to accept Him into your heart!

Yeah, it's really sad. Although I did not grow up during these times, this is when music was good and made by people who actually played instruments. The sound really good live. But some bands today suck at being live?
Anyone ever notice that the drummer misses one beat on the snare at around 2:45? I have this album (vinyl, purchased when released), and I have always wondered about that missed beat.
It seems more likely that the drummer simply aimed at the snare and missed on the beat you mentioned. With studio time being astronomical in cost, they may have simply decided not to dub in one snare hit. That kind of thing was harder with the technology of the day back then. Besides, the song is 38 years old, and I never noticed the missing lick until I read your comment. I should have because I'm a drummer, lol. Thanks for making a great song more interesting to me!

That's so sad!

You are right Dude but don't you think it might be a drop out of the tape on the drums canal?
Add &fmt=18 at the end of the URL and the track will play in stereo.

Thanks for the stereo tip. Sounds much better.

Good Call!
