I grew up with this music in the 40's/50's--which was mostly played on the BBC's old 'Light' programme--hence the name. Sadly, the beeb through the baby out with the bath water when 60's 'Pop' arrived, and they were frightened of their 'stuffy image' and followed commercial stations. We are lucky to get the odd I hour slot tucked away at ungodly hours now, as if it was a unsociable act to listen.
Ahhhh! I play this Volume 1 Jewel several times a day to get away from the rat race, where the rats always win anyway. I like Angela's playful pizzicati followed by soaring winds and strings. Then a Bob Farnon transition. Next Haydn Woods wistful Serenade to Youth. Then skipping ahead to the last act, Sid's sprightly Spring notes. (Gosh you'd think I wrote album cover notes.) Wink/wink! :)
Superbe musique!
Just discovered this after listening to Volume 2. We in the production business call this style, "Cue Music." Very imaginative. Such gems of melody and orchestration in just a few minutes.

I LOVE Sid Torch's "On A Spring Note." Travelogue cue music. :) Truly a gem on its own.

"Contre les Walkyries wagnériennes les Britanniques opposèrent leur Light Music" - I love that idea!
