  • just wanna give you a heads up when hard drive begin reading that loud pretty sooon your gonna have to backup that drive because it can die on you any minute i have the same issue with 2 250GB WD good think i backed them up ... good luck

  • This is totally abnormal. If this noise is actually how noisy these drives are, what a pathetic joke. My Seagate Constellation, an enterprise drive, does not put out such noise. To add insult to injury, my Seagate runs 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit COOLER than these WDC BLACKS, I can only imagine the pathetic temperature WDC's enterprise drives run at. I had, from 2007-2010 a WDC that ran at 130-150 F, I should have kept a fire extinguisher handy just in case!

  • dude, i have the exact same drive and mine also making sound like that??? what do i do???? :(

  • @rcstringers I wouldn't worry, I think its just the noise the drive makes. I use mine as a backup drive now and it seems ok.

  • I have the same harddrive and it's just as noisy. I actually had one replaced and they were both identical in terms of the noise they produced too, so it's not just a one-off thing. I also have a coolermaster case with that tool-less rail design - HAF 912. Honestly, I think that doesn't help the situation either - the vibrations through the cheap rail plastic and metal case just amplify the noise to annoyingly loud levels.

  • @NZjord I now use this as a backup drive and bought a 500gb seagate drive for my pc instead, its much quieter and performs just as well.

  • @gmodertom if its sata 3 witch all new caviar blacks are if you are on sata 2 then you need to put in the 3 gb/s limiting jumper pin

  • Wow! I have a WD 1TB hard drive and mine is absolutely silent. I don't have the caviar black though, I have the WD caviar green hooked on to sata3

  • @bond284 ye the caviar green spins slower I believe so that is why it is quieter. as this is the black it spins faster for better performance, I still think its too loud though....
