To the person who posted this video: you should not care about what haters think at all. Just make every decision carefully and take pride in what you do. Haters' opinions don't matter at all. For example, a lot of people say that University of Phoenix is scam. But how many of these bashers have a good degree and a good job themselves? How many of them are more educted and more successful than U of P students? These LOSERS bash everybody else to make themselves feel better. That's all.

@mellotron12 I wish you the very best on your endeavour. It's tough out there. There are a lot of starving artists in the world right now. I have a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology. I've spent a lot of time in college, and a lot of time at crummy factory jobs. At these jobs, you'll always hear people use the phrase "it is what it is" to describe something they know could be better but they can't do much to change. I have always found that to be symbolic because I think it applies to life in general, in many ways. "It is what it is" means this is the education system we have in place, so deal with it. Life is not black and white... there are no guarantees.
@jcmck0320 As someone who is college educated (albeit from a college anyone can get into, and my grades weren't stellar) I ultimately arrived at a point where social services was the only field that appealed to me. I consider it my "logical response" to seeing how messed up the world is. To me, that is true education... when you get to the point where you can't ignore the obvious anymore. So whatever you pursue in life, I just hope you try to use it to better the world, not just make money.
@jcmck0320 Know what makes you happy. Live by the 80/20 rule. Be minimalistic. You'll have money, you'll have a good life, you'll spend your time doing the things you love the most and working on the stuff you want to work on. The world doesn't need seven billion people in a rat race...No, what the world needs is seven billion rationale people that are not asking the questions "What's in it for me? How do I get more?"
@Gutsyndicate Yes, an idea stretching back to the 1100s is a scam "porpertrated" on Americas. I ask this again: Does anyone notice what most of these naysayers have in common?
@Gutsyndicate And that just shows your ignorance. Getting a degree is not about being guaranteed employment or being able to find a job. Going to college is about learning, thinking, developing one's self, etc.
@binbashLinuxAhole thats true i guess but the fact of the matter is that degrees simply arent wortheless because at the end of the day they give you a good advantage in getting you the job in that particular sector. Thats all im saying.
@mrkosilathi College is not an employment agency. Its not about guaranteeing you a job or making it so you can find a job. However, having a degree on your resume is going to look far better than not having one.
@mrkosilathi Degrees being worthless for them is just reflection of their own failures. NOT being able to score high enough on the sat and act and not having high enough grades to get into a decent university.
@highon74 I do think it funny you little bitch. I do have a degree that's worth twice as much as an unmarketable arts degree. And it is my business when he defaults on his loans because he cant find a job and tax payers have to bail him out. GTFO before you get bitch slapped.
#2 - you feel your 'better than' because he has a 'worthless degree'.. your the fucking joke for making that judgment. Although the degree may (or may not) be worthless.. maybe that is what he WANTED to do.
#3 - he could get a masters degree and then teach college (for instance) and make a good amount of money..

well actually there are lots of people who have music degrees and do very well in life whether masters, bachelors or doctorate, and they are usually the teachers of great musicians, what a life !!!!!
I see a lot of negative comments towards this guy. The truth is he probably has an upper-hand in life more than most of you.
Anyway, It's not just about money and career, it's about doing what you're passionate about. Besides, the world DOES need creative researchers. We can't all be computer scientists and mathematicians. Art and music has its place in technology too, big time. Almost all tech that you low-lifes rely on has involved artists and music experts. Open your eyes.
Bachelor Degree in Art Music? What the fuck you think you will get with that garbage. Did you learn how to build applications in the cloud to be ready for mobile apps in iphones, ipad, android, wp7, etc? No, you didn't.
Did you learn how to use "EDI with business intelligent to retrieve data from SQL database to analyze it?
You are very stupid person to begin. How in the world someone wants to study "art or music"?
@msbrando I am working toward a PhD in Musicology. I'm going to teach/research Music History. All you mentioned has nothing to do with my field. I was accepted into the Master's program at Arizona State, where I am currently working as a TA in the Music History department. All of these negative comments baffle me. I understand people thinking the Arts is a waste of time, but I don't believe that at all. I have no interest in business or the sciences, otherwise I would have chosen those fields.
@mellotron12 You owe an apology to whomever had a part in paying your tuition. Your school probably didn't print exactly what you majored in because they were laughing so hard that you paid them thousands of dollars for a degree that's worth its weight in toilet paper. Sadly, it's not very absorbent, so you'll have to find something else to do with it. Maybe you picked up an idea in one of your not-math, or not-science classes.
@TumisHumis No. I just want to understand why so many people think music is worthless and think that people who study music are wasting their time.
I started out as a Chemistry major and made As, but I decided it wasn't my passion. People have to do what they love, otherwise ... that's when they are really wasting their time.
My future profession is very specialized. I will certainly have a job when I'm done with my education.
@mellotron12 I would hope you could find a job after obtaining a doctorate, i'm just reiterating the fact that music isn't a career for the educated, it's a career for the talented. I think one of my five music instructors earned a degree in music, and he was probably the least talented of the bunch. Chem as a job, Music as a hobby. Makes perfect sense.
@TumisHumis I agree with some of these posters that college is a waste of time ... for certain people. People graduating at the bottom of their class probably should not go to college. They will probably struggle.
Also, so many people are getting a Bachelor's now that the value of it is descending. I remember a Journalism course I took in undergrad that was full of a lot of simple people. There are a lot of simple people getting Bachelor's degrees. That's why I'm going for the doctorate.
@mellotron12 What do they call you if you graduate a the bottom of your medical school class? Doctor. What do you call you if you spent thousands of dollars on an interpretive dance degree and got a 4.0? A fucking idiot.
God loves you, and Jesus Christ is the way to Him. Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the 3rd day so that all who believe in Him will be saved from Hell and have eternal life in Heaven. Call upon the Lord Jesus Christ in faith and believe on Him for eternal life.
DONT LET THESE WOTHLESS STUPID LOW CLASS DEVRY AUTOMITEVEVE BLUE COLLAR TRAILER TRASH GET TO U HAVING BACHELOR DEGRESS IS COOL . MAKE U A MORE SUPERIOR RACE THAN THE LOW CLASSS UNEDUCATEDTRASH IN USA I LIKE A PERSON WITH A 4RYR D GREE BUT U GOTTA STUDY SOMTHING IN HIGH DEMAND (MATH AND SCIENCE
I'm a teacher aid and I don't even have a degree. I just took a test and passed it by like only 2 points. Sure I only make about $8 an hour, but the experience I'm getting has been the best help ever. As well, establishing and building up my credit is working fine right now. And its not even a public school, but one of the best Charter schools in Arizona. Still live with the parents though and very cautious about the moves I make.
I am 5 minutes into watching this video wondering seriously if this person actually earned the guy to which he ascribes himself. He does not seem like the dedicated type.
@mellotron12 the BS in exercise and wellness, lol@ these clowns on here saying a degree is worthless, we will make twice the amount they ever will and they will never be table to apply for a fed job; well I probably won't see you since i'm downtown but maybe if you take the light rail
@mellotron12 lol you could only get into ASU! haha funny. btw, good job getting your asses kicked after taking out an ad. on the champaign buses this year!
@mpbaker22 I wanted to go to Arizona State five years before I applied. ASU is one of the best music schools in the country. I am right where I want to be learning from some of the best professionals in the field.
My Cousin kept asking me questions about college and how helpful it was and I kept telling him about how college can be good or have no real effect on anything. So I made a blog about it. Check it out, it might be helpful. It is pretty knew so not really a full blog yet. Heres the link:
@mellotron12 sorry to discourage you but a degree in music is actually useless. the only thing you can do is be a music teacher or just a musician. and the pay is crappy
@Pill88Dickle In fact, I did deliver pizza for about three years. It was great money and helped pay off my loans. And now I'm going to grad school in Arizona.
That's retarded I'd tell them to print you a degree in MUSIC not BACHELORS OF ARTS. For all the money you spent on that degree you may as well have them get it right when they actually print them out.
B.A in Music is nothing. 50K for a worthless piece of paper. The registrar office didnt care enough to put "Musics" on your pos of a diploma. Go ask for your money back!
@G0OS3 Why would I do that? My diploma was good enough for Arizona State to accept me into their Music History and Literature graduate program. I'm pursuing the career I've always wanted.
the problem is that tey teach student loans as they do home mortgage loans and want you to send 30 years in debt so that by the time your are 45, then you may be coming out of debt and cant get your "american dream" on
It feels like I'm going to college forever. My parents will just keep forcing me to go to university until I earn my degree. I think majority of world population are college students and had attended college at least a year. If I get kicked out due to low grades, my parents will send me to hell.
I was visiting my grandmother; I had the degree mailed to her house. I have continued to make videos about my life toward grad school, which was the whole point of my channel. I am now about to start grad school at Arizona State University as a graduate assistant in the Music department.
Oh your at your grandmothers house thats good cuz thats where your gonna stay hahahahhahahahahh make a vid about your life now 3 years later after getting your degree and dont lie
@lockerzhacker1001 I was visiting my grandmother; I had the degree mailed to her house. I have continued to make videos about my life toward grad school, which was the whole point of my channel. I am now about to start grad school at Arizona State University as a graduate assistant in the Music department.
I've actually seen Music majors get the Bachelor of Science. Some colleges are big enough to offer either the BA or the BS for the exact same major.
My BS from UH looks a lot like yours, but my major was listed on the lower left side between the main paragraph and the Chair's signature.
Ignore those fools who said your degree is useless. Most jobs don't care what your major was. You can get into any field entry level, but the degree will help you move up by being smarter than your peers.
Congrats! It's all what you make of it! Many people will say "it's worthless" but the figures, even today, show differently. Yes, a BA i music may not be as "valuable" as one in technology, but it is degree none the less.
You are now in a group that is about %15 of Americans with a bachelor's degree! Also, while the national unemployment rate hovers around 10%, those with bachelor's degrees are lower than 5% unemployment.
Also, in response to everyone who says I will not have a decent job, I have had difficulty finding a respectable job because my degree is in music. However, I have been earning very decent money as a substitute teacher, and I just recently scored in the 90th percentile on the GRE, so I will be going to grad school very soon and I may receive some decent financial aid. In sum, do what you love and never give up.
@paulwilsonmusician I got my degree in a roundabout way. I went to college for six years, took a break, and then made up two courses to complete all of my requirements. So, even though I graduated with a 3.5 GPA, I did not receive any sort of cum laude. It is unclear which graduating class I am in. I stopped going to classes in 2006, but I completed requirements for the degree in 2008.
Coincidentally, my brother's name is Paul Wilson, and he is also a musician.
Engineering is also a bust, especially if you are over 40 and need a job. Good luck, because your career is over. They don't tell you stuff like that while you're in school because most of the students would change majors. A university degrees value has been diluted due to the huge increase in graduates over the past 30 years. Lots more competition, not many more jobs.
people seem to forget that its not just about money. people who are educated are better off then those who are not. people with a BA represent a very very small percentage of the american population. more than likely everyone who is saying that its a worthless piece of paper does NOT have one. Stop being ignorant and trying to justify the fact that you did not go to college to get your own "worthless piece of paper." Congratulations dude the sky is the limit. ill have mine in about 3 weeks.

well actually there are lots of people who have music degrees and do very well in life whether masters, bachelors or doctorate, and they are usually the teachers of great musicians, what a life !!!!!

How in the world someone wants to study "art or music"?
msbrando 4 months ago
@msbrando I am working toward a PhD in Musicology. I'm going to teach/research Music History. All you mentioned has nothing to do with my field. I was accepted into the Master's program at Arizona State, where I am currently working as a TA in the Music History department. All of these negative comments baffle me. I understand people thinking the Arts is a waste of time, but I don't believe that at all. I have no interest in business or the sciences, otherwise I would have chosen those fields.
mellotron12 4 months ago
@mellotron12 You owe an apology to whomever had a part in paying your tuition. Your school probably didn't print exactly what you majored in because they were laughing so hard that you paid them thousands of dollars for a degree that's worth its weight in toilet paper. Sadly, it's not very absorbent, so you'll have to find something else to do with it. Maybe you picked up an idea in one of your not-math, or not-science classes.
TumisHumis 4 months ago
@TumisHumis Do you listen to Classical music?
mellotron12 4 months ago
@mellotron12 Yes, why do you ask? Are you going to flex your degree on someone who hasn't taken a music class since High School?
TumisHumis 4 months ago
@TumisHumis No. I just want to understand why so many people think music is worthless and think that people who study music are wasting their time.
I started out as a Chemistry major and made As, but I decided it wasn't my passion. People have to do what they love, otherwise ... that's when they are really wasting their time.
My future profession is very specialized. I will certainly have a job when I'm done with my education.
mellotron12 4 months ago
@mellotron12 I would hope you could find a job after obtaining a doctorate, i'm just reiterating the fact that music isn't a career for the educated, it's a career for the talented. I think one of my five music instructors earned a degree in music, and he was probably the least talented of the bunch. Chem as a job, Music as a hobby. Makes perfect sense.
TumisHumis 4 months ago
@mellotron12 You sound like the captain of the Titanic.
dzsquared1 1 month ago
@TumisHumis I agree with some of these posters that college is a waste of time ... for certain people. People graduating at the bottom of their class probably should not go to college. They will probably struggle.
Also, so many people are getting a Bachelor's now that the value of it is descending. I remember a Journalism course I took in undergrad that was full of a lot of simple people. There are a lot of simple people getting Bachelor's degrees. That's why I'm going for the doctorate.
mellotron12 4 months ago
@mellotron12 What do they call you if you graduate a the bottom of your medical school class? Doctor. What do you call you if you spent thousands of dollars on an interpretive dance degree and got a 4.0? A fucking idiot.

Go ask for your money back!

the problem is that tey teach student loans as they do home mortgage loans and want you to send 30 years in debt so that by the time your are 45, then you may be coming out of debt and cant get your "american dream" on

It feels like I'm going to college forever. My parents will just keep forcing me to go to university until I earn my degree. I think majority of world population are college students and had attended college at least a year. If I get kicked out due to low grades, my parents will send me to hell.

GarthanSaal444 11 months ago
TheValeOfAldur 1 year ago
Also, in response to everyone who says I will not have a decent job, I have had difficulty finding a respectable job because my degree is in music. However, I have been earning very decent money as a substitute teacher, and I just recently scored in the 90th percentile on the GRE, so I will be going to grad school very soon and I may receive some decent financial aid. In sum, do what you love and never give up.
mellotron12 1 year ago
did you also achieve Honours?
paulwilsonmusician 1 year ago
@paulwilsonmusician I got my degree in a roundabout way. I went to college for six years, took a break, and then made up two courses to complete all of my requirements. So, even though I graduated with a 3.5 GPA, I did not receive any sort of cum laude. It is unclear which graduating class I am in. I stopped going to classes in 2006, but I completed requirements for the degree in 2008.
Coincidentally, my brother's name is Paul Wilson, and he is also a musician.
mellotron12 1 year ago
@mellotron12 aww well congratulations on your degree, I can't wait til I get my BMusEd; Hns :D.
paulwilsonmusician 1 year ago
Engineering is also a bust, especially if you are over 40 and need a job. Good luck, because your career is over. They don't tell you stuff like that while you're in school because most of the students would change majors. A university degrees value has been diluted due to the huge increase in graduates over the past 30 years. Lots more competition, not many more jobs.
Cubatraveler 1 year ago
people seem to forget that its not just about money. people who are educated are better off then those who are not. people with a BA represent a very very small percentage of the american population. more than likely everyone who is saying that its a worthless piece of paper does NOT have one. Stop being ignorant and trying to justify the fact that you did not go to college to get your own "worthless piece of paper." Congratulations dude the sky is the limit. ill have mine in about 3 weeks.
