Catch Drysdale in his first professional MMA event ever, this July 17th, 2010. It's in BC, Canada but apparently the live PPV webcast is available at WWSN.TV. I'm looking forward to seeing what this guy can do in the octagon, hope he doesn't disappoint and kicks some butt!
cool xman, maybe when I go to US ill chack it out for sure. US has some of the best schools. Perosh was in Texas at some point i believe training with Machado bros,. I wish I have the opportunity to get to a brown belt at least. Brown would be black to me!
Yeah he teaches there quite frequently. There are a couple instructors besides him. But he teaches the adult class mainly. The kids class is not as much.
FYI - both are highly competent grapplers and BJJ black belts. I've trained with Anthony Perosh, he's an excellent instructor and all round nice guy. He runs an MMA school with Elvis Sinosic in Sydney.
Absolutely, first to make a truly big mistake. Not only that though. If you're technique is solid, you can take all the time in the world to execute some techniques.
at that level even the SMALLEST mistake will definitely be exploited... it becomes more about waiting for a mistake than forcing an opportunity. When I roll with black belts I have to consciously wait and be careful precisely for this reason

well, from what I saw in this video:"sports jiu-jitsu sux big time,it didn't look very impressive, but I'm sure the fighting jiu-jitsu is much more effective, they got all those champs."
For everyone questioning the efficiency of jiu-jitsu on the street let me say this. What you see here is SPORT JIU-JITSU, not fighting jiu-jitsu!!!!! Fighting jiu-jitsu is all about getting the takedown, mount, then beating the crap out of your opponent until he turns thus giving you a choke. Sport jiu-jitsu is exactly what it is, a sport.
Even though this guy below "cucusandro" is a shmuck who has no clue, It brings up a good point. This is a "match" not a "fight". These are terms that are used loosely in BJJ. But no mistaking this is not a fight. Although crazy good Jiu-Jits. And stating these guys would smoke anyone in MMA is not very objective or true. I train both, and they are very different.
In a streetfight: evade your opponent's attacks, hurt him with a strike or kick or standing joint lock, and get away. Always keep your mind on your surroundings - "zanshin" in Japanese. Save grappling for the safe environment of the dojo or ring.
I have the film. Even Rickson's father calls that record into question. Rickson has won around 10 MMA fights. He hasn't posted the details of his fighting record on his site. Also, he has a loss in sambo against an American so the 0 losses is not true.
that was a complication with the rules apperantly(Spelling) all his father says he doesn't know how many he has won, well what ever it is, it's good!!
BJJ has been tested by the gracies in all situations "Real Life" street fights, against bigger and smaller opponents. i train with ze macello and it's not all just grappling, you need to go and try it mate.
if your on the floor getting a kicking, how to get back to your feet, how to strike, how to get a submission from any position. it takes 1 second to break a leg, ankle, arm, wrist, shoulder, neckback to 10 mma wins for gracie, i've seen more than that.. 8 wins just from the japenese comps in choke. choke is based on the second. that's just 2 comps.. what about the gracie challenge, anyone anytime $100,000 if you beat rickson. only bruce lee offered this kind of challenge! doubt him?
brinightlfc - Thanks for your serious and polite answer. As regards BJJ and Rickson, I have deep respect for both and have even trained at Rickson's dojo in LA. But, for the street, an approach based on taking someone to the ground could prove disadvantageous (for reasons I have already pointed out). Yes, become an expert at groundwork, but aim to fight stay on your feet.
drsydale submitted marcelo garcia...Unless anyone else can say they've done the same, then QUIT TALKING SHIT. also, these guys are grapplers, u think they would fight leaving their hands down all the time, NO, but they WOULD take any average fool to the ground and either punch the shit out of him or just put him to sleep, or break some limbs...ignorant people watch ufc 1,2 & 4

what do mean mma is the future. This is just a different type of competition its like saying boxing or kickboxing sucks because mma is the future. You suc at life.
Love the match. Amazing skill, but the future is MMA. At one point he puts his hand behind his head to show he is calm relaxed and not in any trouble. If he was worried about getting puched in the face he would not be so relaxed. The Hybrid is the way.
Who cares? Drysdale is a grappler, not an MMa fighter. Do you criticize wrestlers because they keep their hands low and leave themselves open for subs or boxers because they stand too high to defend a shot and their excessive head movement invites a knee or kick to the head?
Who cares? I do. Really he is a grappler? No?!! Wow thanks for clearing that up, I thought he was doing ballet. Its just stupid to play 1/2 of a sport.
LMAO! mkellysurfing complaining about grappling rules in a grappling tournament! Also, drysdale and the other grappler did not learn half a sport. They have chosen to compete in grappling not MMA. Don't you think if drysdale chose to compete in mma that he would alter his style to suit mma? Honestly I am surprised you are able to operate a computer.
if we think about the same moment, it's not meant to show he's relaxed. the purpose is not to let the opponent grab his hand. as for MMA fighters, they're (on average) worse punchers than "pure" punchers and worse grapplers than "pure" grapplers, and it's pretty obvious. you can't excel at several fields at once. narrow specialists are also needed.
check out "fight science" mma on youtube and check out how BAS RUTTEN kicks harder than a muay thai fighter, how mma fighters punch as hard as pro boxers... you may just rethink your stance here although I can appreciate seperate disciplines as the arts they are, sport fighting IS evolving and this is the evolution at the moment.
i've seen that program before, sorry but it was pseudo-scientific nonsense - they compared DIFFERENT types of kicks/punches, and fighters of different body weight! come on, how silly is that. and does ANY professional MMA fighter train under only one instructor, both stand-up and grappling? i don't think so! and why?
and following your logic, triathlon must replace swimming, running and cycling practiced as separate disciplines. and i'd even perfect that concept by adding a blitz chess match at the end ;)
This is really bad grappling!... well its okaaay,, but there is MUCH BETTER! I could beat both of them *coughs* wots that... my mum's calling me, sorry, i'll have to bet them sum other time... byyyeeeee *runs away*
