  • 6:00 - "It wouldn't be a theory if it were a fact"

  • @thealchemist1111

To clarify, this student is using the word 'theory' in the same way it is used at the supermarket or the bus stop

"A scientific theory comprises a collection of concepts, including abstractions of observable phenomena expressed as quantifiable properties, together with rules (called scientific laws) that express relationships between observations of such concepts."

  • Linguistic subterfuge evoluting into rockaplagarism is the most vile and despicable form of imitation.

  • yeah, it wouldn't be a theory if it were a fact...

  • And there isn't a controversy about the happening of evolution. We are pretty damned clear about it.

  • I think there is a fundamental difference between a doctrine, and an epistemological position, wouldn't all of us agree?

  • Queue the Rocky music..."Evolution is taught in the schools as a fact...it wouldn't be a theory if it were a fact."

    Praise God for her.

  • Actually, it is. It's called the "genetic fallacy". The genetic fallacy is committed when an idea is either accepted or rejected because of its source, rather than its merit. Obviously, she is trying to associate the term "creationist" and "creationism" with the bill (which passed the state senate yesterday). Her intention is to try to convince others that it is a "stealth creationist" bill, which implies that it is bad if it is from a creationist source. The genetic fallacy.

  • LOL.

It is not a fallacy to point out that a creationist is trying to lie to people about his or her agenda.

I mean, seriously, the Louisiana Family Forum is well known for aggressively promoting creationism. Why would they suddenly start caring about science now?

They obviously want to continue to push creationism, and they are doing it by lying to people about their motives.

  • "It is not a fallacy to point out that a creationist is trying to lie to people about his or her agenda."

True, that would be just plan lying.

"Why would they suddenly start caring about science now?"

Because they can, that's why. I think freedom from persecution was something they've cared about for a long time.

"They obviously want to continue to push creationism, and they are doing it by lying to people about their motives."

    Evidence please.

  • She's harmless, and probably a very nice person. It's her worldview that is destructive.

  • Jesus...That woman is an evo-atheists, PROTECT THE CHILDREN!!!!!!
