I am a big fan of Gracie and have seen just about everything she ever did. This is, as far as I know, the only time that Gracie ever dropped the act and recited a serious set of lines. Its a shame she didn't do a few dramatic shows on the side. She was a great actress.
I remember so many nights I would sit up until midnight just so I can watch when they would show the reruns.....lol.... That was back in early eighties. I would still do it it again if they brought them back!!
Thank you for these shows on YouTube. What a memory to relive. Thank you very much. George Burns and Gracie Allen were a team. Gracie was a live wire. Anything Gracie said was funny. George with his cigar was his trademark.
This was during the season when George & Gracie were living in "New York" (but filming continued at General Service Studios in Hollywood). In this episode, Ronnie Burns' dramatic group is giving a "vaudeville night", where he and his fellow thespians are impersonating famous vaudeville stars [the kind Burns & Allen knew and worked with]. However, Ronnie's "girl" initially turns her nose up at doing a "Burns & Allen" routine with him; it finally turns out to be a case of stage fright.
@KarinPluss That's true and it was, also, said that she made them put a cover over the red lite on the camera during the eraly days of televison as it made her nervous that she had to be"on". Very revealing for a stage actress had to concentrating on her performance rather than be distracted by hi-tech.
@mxylpx I read that about the red lights as well. She didn't like doing the tv-show in front of a live audience either, so they didn't have that. They had audiences for the radio shows, but she would just not look that way and black them out, but that was harder to do with the tv-show. George said that on stage she just didn't see beyond the lights either, but again Gracie proves to be a great actress, because one would never guess from her performances!

Gracie was one of the best "dramatic" actresses. She made everyone believe she was perfectly serious about everything she said, because she was.

This is a tape of a tape, just this scene. I think the original was a bunch of vaudeville bits. Not sure about hypnotism.

This is great! I've hard of this episode! Do you have the entire thing? Been searching for this and time time Gracie was hypnotized to be smart. :)

Bea Benaderet had the all-time best giggle. Listen at 2:21. Reminds me of the fabulous Betty Rubble giggle she did on the Flintstones.
