You guys are seriously comparing airplane travel to space travel? NOTHING in his plan states this is travel for practicality sake, it is PURELY people wanting to experience space. They might as well release this as a ride at Disney World. You all need to get a clue and stop watching Star Trek, you're simply showing your age.

Give me a break. This is just another way for Sir Branson to feed his ego, giving the rich and bored something to do. I'm curious, how much fuel will be burned to feed the bored elitists? Money is better spent on pursuing cures for disease, global climate change, the faltering economy, education, ad nauseam than for this b.s.

Your quickness to belittle the potential breakthrus forthe whole fucking species is kinda annoying. There have been people ("Smart people" if that "gives you a break") for over 100 years talking of the betterment of the species in many facets by expansion into space. Since 70's scientists and enthusiasts have been waiting for the existing technology to be utilized for greater mankind, beyond simply "going somewhere" (the moon). You seem to have a problem simplifying things AND people.

Eliot, you're clueless, but I'll be sure to inform my professors at Columbia that I'm apparently unintelligent. How am I simplifying things when Branson CLEARLY states this is simply a space experience, and NOT meant for travel? Why would someone spend $200,000 to travel the same distance as a regular flight? TO EXPERIENCE SPACE. So, explain to me how this is practical?

I have to agree with CJD on this one, it seems just a tool for the wealthy to waste their time and money on. We already have air travel, why not pump some of that money into the vacuum tunnel from NYC to Paris that has been developed? Get to Paris in less than 56mins from NYC with little to no fuel/pollution is much more practical than billions spent on space travel. Air travel has been around for decades, let's reinvent the wheel.

u need to do the math man a fucking vacume tunnel from nyc to paris would take all the gold out of fort knox or some shit like that. you know how much money and time that would take. if richard bransons rich ass wants 2 go to space let him. we need stuff like this it will help improve are technology. ima laugh when the aleins come bomb ur ass and im on the moon haha.

Space contains infinite materials and of course space. While the basic technology has existed to serve humanity in ways such as self-sustaining, self-regenerating colonies, mining of infinite amounts of energy... the details needed for the applicability of any such technologies have been encumbered by ONLY ONE thing. Cheap space flight - something the government isn't working too hard on, at least not comparably. The advances made by Branson can serve as a technical and economic model.

There is no one out there offering it.There is another company starting to offer that I just don't remember the name of them.I have a feeling there will be more companies out there in the future who will offer the same and a cheaper price.Hey I know If I ever become rich and I had 200,000 to burn I would do it.I'm sure there are a lot of celebrities that will do it.That would be awesome.

Actually at that press conference Branson and Rutan were talking about their future vision of intercontinental travel.
Their next ship will have more passengers and lower price.
Once(if) the mass production begins it will be even cheaper.
Branson compared it with the first intercontinental flights of Yankee- Clipper in the 30'sWere the tickets went for $30K in todays money. It was practical business model.
I bet business community will find practical to fly NYC-Tokyo in 1hr.

The truth is that we live in a very busy solar-system and that this planet of ours has been quarantined i.e. the inhabitants remain ignorant to facts above for a reason. NASA has lied about what it knows, we have never been alone and each planet in our solar has its own population...of sorts (apart from mercury)!

According to reports from those on the inside, we already have the technology to travel between the stars and have bases on the moon and mars. This is nothing but a facade to make us think that were actually getting somewhere.

We've been in a recession since 2001, a few months before september 11. The only movement in the stock market has been by the PPT or the other intergovernmental agencies or the bankers. any private citizens who are interfereing with the market are either psycho's or lucky. the real market, US is basically dead. how much have you made this year?

Im glad that someone cares about space and travel through space, in the future hopefully branson and everyone involved with virgin galactic will be remebered for helping push forward space travel and eventually and hopefully colonization.

To reach escape velocity you'll need much higher speeds of course! But its a first step.
