@eidairman1 Actually I think that that piston/shock zapper room was an new type of Roboticizer; that's why there were no rings or powerups, they're useless once you're turned into a robot (lose a life, game over).

Remember Sonic the Comic made by Fleetway? Robotnik succeeded in transporting Sonic 6 months into the future, which was all the time eggy needed to take over mobius. When Sonic and co arrived back on Mobius they found out (which is the part that best suits this song) They then decided to stick and fight Robotnik then and there, rather than wasting time on paradoxes.
