The story was good, and I particularly liked some of the subtext the characters showed. However, there were some parts where dialogue wasn't really necessary to present the story. You should try making the film more visual (less dialogue), in addition to cutting out parts that make it too long.
As said before, the music (which was good) covered a lot of the dialogue, so practice working with audio levels.
You are better than most and will get more experienced each time you make a new film :)
Nice work Alex. I agree with the previous posters though...you need a better balance between your music and your narration. I would also add that your dialogue tracks need more fidelity. The "through the phone" equalization, to me, doesn't really work. I completely admire your work. Your editing is good as is your lighting and composition. Any little bugs will work themselves out as you mature as a filmmaker. It's a long, long road and you'll never stop learning.
I think you did a very good job however it didn't all flow naturally. At some parts the background music was very high and then became very low, a good balance should be kept constant. The background music made it a tiny bit of a challenge to understand what the girl and her aunt were saying. You did pick good music and it went with the film naturally. The plot was well thought out and original. Keep up the good work and one day you can become the next Peter Jackson, all in a day's work.
Story good. Directing good except 1st 30 seconds. You don't need that many cuts during that time. And watch the composition of those shots. Some bad framing makes the cuts stand out to much. It should be as smooth as butter going from one shot to the next when there is no action. Study neo-realist films and let the reality of the scene work for you instead of blow torching us with all the music. "Less is more" would be the approach IMHO. Keep going. You got talent.
It was well directed. My only complaint is that the sound quality was poor. Layered ontop of the dialogue, the backgroud music should've been quieter. Anyway, I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
sometimes i have a hard time sitting through some youtube short films, but i actually watched this whole thing! good job!
the story was great and all of that, the only thing that could be better is the audio level of the dialogue, it just need to be louder.
