Hi NakaTeleeli...i watched ALL your New Super Mario Bros. Wii Vids and The Legenary Starfy....Lots Of Times!!I love your videos!! I Have A Metroidvania game for you...Kirbys Epic Yarn...I have it on wii...its easy...it looks as easy as starfy!!im 10 and i almost beat the game!! <3 :) ... I LOVE WACHING YOUR VIDEOS SOOOO MUCH!! <3 :)
You really should look up Xenosaga. It's an RPG without MASSIVE grinding, and it has a crapload of story. It might be too much story for you, but still it's a great game. It's also slightly under LPed.
On another note, Starfy sounds like he's constipated.
May I ask why/how Megaman X ruined Megaman for you? I've always been more fond of the X series for, well, 2 reasons; 1: I like the enhanced movement (Wall climbing, dashing, dash jumping, etc); and 2: Zero is the man (what?)
I'm especially fond of the Megaman Zero series because, though it plays like MMX, it feels different; darker, yes, but it is also some of the best writing Capcom has ever done. It's not just good writing by Capcom's standards, it's actually good writing (also, Zero).
I would say that if you had a 360 that darksiders might not be a bad metroidvania kinda game (it's more like zelda then metriod but it also fits you definition)
Metroid Castlevania II: Simon's Quest The Goonies II The Battle of Olympus Blaster Master Clash at Demonhead Faxanadu Master Takahashi's Adventure Island IV Zillion Wonder Boy III Genesis Popful Mail Super Metroid Super Adventure Island 2 Wanderers from Ys III Metroid II Shantae *Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Tomba! Metroid Fusion Metroid Zero Mission Castlevania: Circle of the Moon * Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance * Kirby * Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin * Metroid Dredd maybe not
Battle of Olympus looks quite like Zelda II because it was made around the same time using the same engine ... gameplay wise however it is far more like a traditional Zelda-game than Zelda II was ... and it has less engrish, a less taxing difficulty and overall prettier graphics as well.
It is a great game, however it does NOT resemble a MetroidVania unless you squint real hard at it ... In my opinion it is simply the 2D Zelda game that Zelda II should have been. Awesome music too, by the way.

DO NOT try kirby and the amazing mirror! it is long as possible. if you do, it's fun but you need to get the map before you can find anything, and also, the most that kirby himself actually changes is mostly the srpay paints you can find
exploration and evolution of character. It's not stage based in the least. Nay, it's just one giant stage where the ending is in the center. It's more about exploration than constant action. You also get new abilities as it goes. Think Mario World, there are custom blocks that can only be destroyed by a fireball. So you have to go to the far right of a stage, fight a boss, just to get a fireflower. Then you go back to the center of the stage to get to the exit. That but ten times more complex.
@NakaTeleeli Hi NakaTeleeli...i watched ALL your New Super Mario Bros. Wii Vids and The Legenary Starfy....Lots Of Times!!I love your videos!! @WeaponizedPony Completely sure. Metroidvania would imply some form of getting a power, being able to backtrack and use said power to discover things or areas you couldn't before in previous locations... not the case with Epic Yarn. You're given everything you need to complete areas from the start of the GAME, and just completing levels from there.
LOOK people. I know I'm open to game suggestions, and if you want to make one feel free. But here I specifically asked if anybody knew any good metroidvanias. Don't just request whatever comes to mind. It's like you're not even trying any more...
You just have to think differently. It was made with the intention of making the player be more cautious, and not jumping down every hold and hitting every switch they see because they have a lifebar from here to kingdom come. It's not bad as long as you don't rush into it and think.
Well there's Iji... that's kinda like a Metroidvania but stage based. I'm sure you know all about that one though.
Um... Blaster Master... Astro Boy(kinda but not really). Sorry I'm at a loss on this one. I'm more your old school 'Square before the really stupid Enix merger' type gamer.
Other games... There's Bomberman 64: The Second Attack. A very good game that although it has a level like theme, does involve exploration and returning to levels with future power ups.... And it has Pommy! Which means Ogre could play too.
There's the Jak and Daxter series, especially 2 and 3.
There's also the Sly Cooper games, though exploration only really comes in in the second one but they all of powerups in them.
Theres also a PSP (maybe w/ more systems) game that is just Daxter, I'm not too sure what it's about though, because I have it but never played it before. It might not be a metroidvania, but I still think it might be one of those good games (or at least okay games) to play. NakaTeleeli, you might've played this game, if you did, can you tell me what it's about? Like a scale of 1/10 or something like that.. This is a long message... Maybe I should get on with my life and stop worring about games.
I mentioned Battle of Olympus (which I also think bears a resemblance to Zelda II) because it was a game I just recently played through, and that it seemed sort of Metroidvania-ish, and also because just about everything else I could think of had already been mentioned. That seems to be the problem, though, in that just about all of the good ones have been pointed out.
I don't know about the GBA Shaman King games, they were NOT good Castletroids to me. (I call 'em Castletroids :V) But all the good ones have been listed already. I really wish there were more out there - I absolutely LOVE the genre.
There are a lot of those games out there... the problem is finding ones that are good. Or at least, ones that have a good variety. I wish I knew more games like that were metroidvania, but most of the ones I played I don't remember as much anymore. Plus, most of the 'good' ones have been done already. But like Ligeag said, the Shaman King games were pretty good. Just be careful not to grab the RPG one by mistake. Exploration games are sadly a dying breed...
Iji for PC and Shaman King 1 and 2 for GBA. For bonus i say Ragnarok Battle Offline for PC. Last one isn't metroidvania but maybe you should look into it anyway :)
not really, it's just metroidvania is its own genre, and not many suggestions were actually metroidvanias. It's like asking for a platformer and getting pointed towards a beat em up with a jump button.
Naka i have not really been able to download and play it but Eternal Daughter was suggested to me by a friend yesterday. I had a quick look and it seems like a metroidvania.
I have had to much uni work to really give it a try but if its not then sorry.
Eh, you have a bit of a point with Tomba, and I concede it's weak on a few of the Metroidvania points..mostly that
1) AP doesn't get you as much important stuff as it should (most of it comes from chest opening)
2) you could probably get by with the default pants and non-grapple weapons for most of it. The jumping/dashing stuff helps, obviously..most of the "super powered up" feeling is when you can have 16 health instead of 8.
I have something that may be considered a Metroidvania, it's called Broken Cave Robot. You only have 5 minutes before an automatic game over, but the idea is that you have a map screen that you draw yourself (It's not required, I didn't use it and played from memory, but it can be useful for sure) You collect items to climb, jump, or have a larger field of vision. A quiet song plays in the background that gets faster as time runs as well. Check it out and tell me what you think.
Does seem to be a metroidvania, but I doubt I'd ever play that, to be honest. I myself am not too keen on time limits :P But I might check it out, who knows.

And about a game suggestion, i have an idea but it's more looking like Metroid since it is actually Metroid.
It's a rom hack of Super Metroid named: Super Metroid Impossible.
I've seen some videos about it and it's basicly Super Metroid with the difficulty Cranked up Pretty much in my Opinion.
You should use save states if you want in that game if you'll play it one day. o:
