I've read the Satanic verses. I don't see anything offensive to Islam in it. The reason for the fatwa is because a section of the book makes fun of the Ayatollah Khomeini in a very gentle way. The fatwa was for purely personal reasons (Khomenei versus Rushdie) and not for religious reasons, but a lot of Muslims fell for it, including Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam).

Salman explains he was encouraged to write an apology in order to try and calm the atmosphere of violence that surrounded his novel and threatened his life and the lives of those around him. Salman regrets it, the apology was a lie and t did not help, the fatwa continued.

I've read the Satanic verses. I don't see anything offensive to Islam in it. The reason for the fatwa is because a section of the book makes fun of the Ayatollah Khomeini in a very gentle way. I searched Walid Shoebat and he is not a worthy man for any reference at all. I don't have to look anywhere when I have the Quran for reference and guidance. The word of Allah. And would you like to tell me which ayat in the Quran says that? First of all. nothing in the Quran is without logic. But EVEN IF THAT AYAT EXISTS, there will be a explanation. @fenriz218 actually it is the other way round but it will be hard 4 u 2 c if you think like that.... u reminded me of when messengers were sent to nations( like Noah for example) and those who started to believe in them were the the poorest or most miserable ones and the other disbelievers mocked them... the bottom line here is PLEASE do not judge who is embracing a religion and go read that religion...maybe it is the ultimate truth and you are making the most horrible mistake of ur 1st life!

Salman in1994 " issued a statement claiming he had renewed his Muslim faith, had repudiated the attacks on Islam in his novel and was committed to working for better understanding of the religion across the world. However, Rushdie later said that he was only "pretending".... if a brilliant thinker has such a "pretending" attitude, I will think twice... It does not show a man of one principles and one attitude even if that costs him his life!

Salman explains he was encouraged to write an apology in order to try and calm the atmosphere of violence that surrounded his novel and threatened his life and the lives of those around him. Salman regrets it, the apology was a lie and t did not help, the fatwa continued.

@DrCleo0o You've obviously not read the novel. It is not "about the Quran". It is a fictional story which only borrows some of the Quranic elements, especially in a dream sequence.
Most Muslims that condemned the book did not read it. Khomeini did not read it either, he just offered money to kill the author. The Salman Rusdhie-case demonstrates that reading "for yourself" and thinking "for yourself" to "build your judgement" for yourself is not one of the indispensable tenets of Islam.

@CrystalCanyons, Actually, I'm glad he used that pompous voice on Yusuf/Stevens. You could tell from the way Stevens glared at him that he was unhappy with his tone. Robertson was definitely harshing Yusuf's spiritual "mellow".

@SoxonProductions, Rushdie's Japanese translator and one of his publishers were murdered.
Their murderers were never identified, as far as I know. And here Yusuf/Stevens/whatever he calls himself these days incites more bloodshed, and he has never directly apolozied for it.
and Yusuf's'apologists' one argument is "c'mon, it was a LONG time ago! Let go of it!"
It would be nice if the two murder victims' families could just "let go of it" too, I suppose.

Indeed! I only talked Islam from outer layer of observation level. Learning and knowing its nature is the best for open-minded observers. Talking about whether is accurate or inaccurate can be achieved or found in it. Saying it is accurate or inacurate with my words don't make anything to the matter of reality.
God's words never change but human's do. This was my point.
Criticism is part of knowing the actual point. But Islam dislikes insulting and cursing.
