The largest army in the world with the most advanced tanks and planes against a smaller German force surrendered within 6 weeks causing the British to evacuate from Dunkirk as the French had no will to fight and Britain knew they'd give up so the BEF was needed to defend Britain.

@maxi3317 Actually the french had many allies fighting on their side; Spain, Denmark-Norway, the Confederation of the Rhine, Poland, Holland, Italy as well as non European allies such the Maratha confederacy, Mysore and the USA who were also fighting the British at the time. Infact the majority of Napoleons Grande Armée was actually non french, and Napoleon himself was Corsican/Italian.

i know several things about my history joker. And i can tell you that 100000 french died in the north while resisting. A part of them in Dunkirk protected the retreat of the english via the channel. This aid was vital in order english return safely..

@chris25fr Brits were only 10% of the allied army the fact they had to fall back was because the French were incapable of fighting the Germans.

British and empire forces inflicted the first great defeat on Germans at Operation Crusader and the 1st siege of Tobruk 1941 for 1st time thousands of Germans (rather than Italians) surrendered.

But Napoleon was a tyran who caused the death of millions accross Europe. But as everything is balanced he also caused great advances in the french legal system and the like. But overall i am not a big fan of his.

In terms of major 'battles' on land, Napoleon armies won by most of them and that's what the French mean by 'we won as many battles as England if not more'. Also in those major battles we never lost against England alone because you never dared to fight us on one-on-one....You would have been crushed by the Napoleonic war machine, strategy and discipline (and i am not a fan of Napoleon...).
