  • Diane Sawyer, ugh..painted up Jezebel if there ever was one.

  • Sawyer is more brain dead than Brain, and she's so fucking fake.

  • That Landy fellow is just as horrible as M.Jacksons doctor..wtf with these 'doctors'.

Good he got him off drugs, but in this interview You can see how he is drugged with medicine.. (dunno pain relievers etc..)

  • @Jimbowholivesinsoup Yeah he's so obviously doped up.

  • the song is "Surf's Up"

  • What's the song at 3:32?

  • It hurts to see this. He is so open with his feelings. I love this man for beeing so honest! All the best to you Brian!

  • Call me crazy too but Brian Wilson looks so much more sane and coherent under Dr. Landy than under his wife Melinda. Watch Beatiful dreamer, or the Larry King interview, he is a wreck now. What is that wife doing to him?

  • There's a big myth about Brian as the tortured cherubic genius, turned into a schizo because Mike Love didn't like Smile and his pop Murry was a mean guy. What's forgotten is that Brian started hearing voices a few weeks after he started dropping acid, that he blew it with Smile due to psyching himself out combined with his drug use, and that he was always a bizarre, immature guy. There are militant Brian fanatics that think is he farted on a record, it would be genius art.

  • at 7:16 to 7:21 look Brian... Druggy?

  • Thankfully, my therapist does not have a mullet. I don't think I could take her seriously if she did...

  • Evan, I think Mike Love did 1000 times more damage to Brian than anyone else. But did your father over-medicate him or not?

  • Is Brian at that time still working with Landy..?

I wonder cuz he sounds and acts like that... I think Landy just created a substitute addiction for Brian, absolutely knowing how to succeed. And it'll take a long hard way out of it.

  • @AnyDrug Landy was clearly unethical and broke a lot of ethical boundaries that exist for a reason. But he does have to be given credit for actually getting Brian to be a functioning human being again. If Landy hadn't been around, we'd probably be commemorating the 30th anniversary of Brian's death from an OD, heart attack or suicide. Unfortunate, despite the image his handlers promote, I hear Brian's permanently living in another galaxy these days, mentally.

  • @peterp21his current sit. cause of being over medicated for so long i'm willing to suggest. i've been in mental hospitals before and the people all speak similarly to the way he does. and i just saw an interview he gave back in 67 and he was way different. the same thing happened to me i was hijacked by the police and thrown into a hospital and medicated on drugs that turned me from being a high energy party animal socialite performer. to within days like a zombie while i was on the meds.

  • I'm gonna say this right now.. FUCK DR. LANDY. Brian should have been hospitalized. Brian and Landy's relationship was that of co-dependency. Brian should've been committed to an institution.

  • You know what's sad? I typed in "Brian Wilson interview" on youtube, and the first page was filled with interviews from the BASEBALL player. To me, this is sad. There is only one Brian Wilson...and it's sad that the hype surrounding a baseball player surpasses a genious. Just sayin'....

  • @boxcharles Yes,.there is a San Francisco Giant ball player with the same name, and he is indeed popular at the moment. Any time you type in "Brian Wilson", on anything...you unfortunately have to weed through pages of SF Giants stuff.

  • @boxcharles Well, it appears there are at least TWO Brian Wilsons... But of course Brian of The Beach Boys is the one we couldn't live without!

  • @boxcharles right! dont worry in two years the baseball player will be forgotten

  • Like it or not, Landy did save Brian's life, Mike Love contributed plenty towards Brian's instability, and still does. He was jealous of Landy, and afraid that Brian would be able to go it alone. If Love had been more supportive of Brian in the first place, 'Smile' might well have seen the light of day and Brian might not have descended into the creative vacuum and therefore maybe wouldn't have needed 'help' from someone like Eugene Landy. Brian was irreparably damaged before Landy appeared.

  • @prescient8 I agree that Landy did indeed clean Brian up, get him to exercise, eat right, live clean, etc.....but he did wear out his welcome after his duty was done.

  • @aftershock71'm a therapist and a shrink. Brian could have been "saved" in other ways then signing a pact with the devil. Brian has /was a schizophrenic bipolar patient that could have been treated otherwise with better results. Landry was a guru, and Brian was fragile enough to cling to him, because things that should have been secure had betrayed him, starting with his father. How many gifted kids have gone under because of their father's intervention, like André Agasse, Michael Jackson.

  • @prescient8 LOL, gimme a break. Mike caused Brian's instability? How? By being an obnoxious jerk-off and not liking Smile? And Mike wasn't the only one having a problem with Brian's Smile escapade. I give it 50-50 odds that Smile would have been a bewildering flop had it come out. Must be Mike of course, not Brian's rampant drug abuse that caused him to lose focus on Smile and then descend into mental illness.

  • @peterp21 fuck YOU and MIKE LOVE

  • Landy cut himself into more than Brian's deals. He cut himself into Brian's will.

  • Sorry, but Brian looks better with a little meat on him. Not 300 pounds, but not the beanpole anorexic that Landy turned him into, either.

  • this is just sad

  • Comment removed

  • This really is heart breaking...

  • My god 5:41... MY GOD 5:42

  • i saw brian last night at the enmore and he was fantastic his worth every penny

  • damn i wanted to see the rest of that norman mailer interview.

  • Wasn't there something about a concert in a sandbox?

  • @Halloffamer333 Brian has pet cats. Cool as the Sandbox was, it didn't last long, and I think you can figure out why.

  • @Halloffamer333 brian built a sandbox around his piano so he could have his feet in the sand while he wrote songs the piano tuner had to vacuum the sand out of the hammers

  • Diane acts like a robotic bobblehead.

  • Brian almost looks liike he's still a bit out of it in this video

  • I blame the devil. He showed up in Mr. Wilson's shower you know?

  • I also feel that Mike Love was a dickhead.

  • Somehow, I fell that, after all is said & done, Landy was a positive influence on Brian's life.

  • @tmilwaukee Oh yeah right. Landy kept Brian's daugthers away from him. What kind of sick f**k would do that to somebody. He abused Brian's mental state by making his own kids out to be the evil ones.

  • @tmilwaukee you don't know much about Brian or Landy, obviously

  • this is really sad, especially when he talks about his daughters

screw all the people who mislead and used brian!!

  • No doubt that Landy had his problems..but he had Brian in a much better state of mind than the Brian of today. Just look at videos from the Landy era and compare them to the Wilson of now. Brian doesn't even play the keys these days in concert and he just waves his arms up and down.

  • @musicmatty67 that may be true.... but brian wilson live still kicks ass.

  • Comment removed

  • Brian sounds like he's doing a Bill Cosby impression at the very end of this clip.

  • I wouldn't doubt if the shit Landy put Brian on was just as bad as the LSD. Thankfully, Wilson is a lot better these days.

  • brians father was a jerk and his father before and everyone saying negative shit

  • That Landy was an ugly Get.

  • i like brian wilson. theres just something otherworldly about him. like his spirit is almost too big to be in his body. i get sad thinking about him... but his music is such a drastic opposite to that sadness.

  • @mushroomleg well put.

  • I burned my brain out! My brain got burned out LMAO!

  • I'd LOVE to fuck Diane Sawyer. I think Warren Beatty hit that shit.

  • I wonder if Bill Murray based his portrayal of Carl the groundskeeper in Caddyshack on Wilson.

  • man he is fuuuuucked up

  • I heard Brian Wilson doesn't want to work or play with Mike Love ever again, and he said this as recently as 8 months ago, does that surprise u? I know it puts a lump in my throat too, cause i was hoping for a 50th anniversary reunion of The Beach Boys next year.

  • Mike Love sued him for millions not too long ago.

  • @relimes Well, I think Brian has a good gig right now...he probably wants no more connection with Love in fear of another lawsuit. I just hope for a 'SMiLE' boxed set come the 50th anniversary.

  • Easy to understand that It's not hard to hate Mike Love

  • @pmoyer50 It is such a coincidence that Mike's last name is Love cuz I love him. The Smile sessions made me frown :/

  • I wonder how Brian would've turned out today if he'd been given more conventional therapy.

  • Comment removed

  • I mean from the onset, in the 70's.

  • What a man, what a soul. I love you Brian!!!!

    Paolo

  • Brian has come a very long way since that Prime Time episodes...and his musical output is better than ever before. Just check out the CD That Lucky Old Sun for the proof. The songs "Midnight's Another Day" and "Going Home" tells the story very eloquently. God bless Brian.

  • Brian Wilson is a musical genius. Landy is (was) nothing but a mooching conning Jigalo! Landy also seems gay, not that it matters in itself, but seems that Landy played on physical ploys as well as mental to control Brian. Photos of him walking arm in arm with Brian, hugging him, etc. Hopefully Brian finally came to his senses about the little weasel shit.

  • @cottonceena landy was george bensons manager when he was a teenager made a record and went to new york [ landy lost his license after this for prescribing drugs with out a license he was a phd not an md now hes dead and brian survived .

  • i Love Brian

  • I was in Kindergarden when that was shot!

  • lol at "brian wilson after" i love him, but that was funny

  • heheheehheheheehheheheeh

  • @jennfierw11 HAHAHHAHA 5:40

  • Eugene Landy - Colonel Tom Parker...

    when will people ever learn?

  • From a spiritual standpoint, about WHY people are on this Earth. You can say that Brian was strictly put on this earth to create heavenly music. And I really mean that. Heavenly. He was a terrible father. A terrible husband. His purpose on this earth (besides co-creating two daughters) was strictly to create angelic music.

  • Brian was a fucked up mess at that time. I like watchin' it. But at the time, I hate watching it.

  • having worked with many high functioning autistic children as part of my job, I think it's safe to say that Brian is definitely on the autism spectrum.

  • I think so. Cause I'm too. :-)

  • she is a DYKe

  • obvioulsly he was still on drugs -legal or illegal- with this imbecil of landy... he looked no good! the last 2 seconds are pretty creepy..

  • @anitasseo

Ah ah :-) Creepy? Maybe if you dont see what I have seen. The last two seconds are the clear proof that he is the greatest soul I knew in my life. A pure unique soul.

    Paolo

  • dude, i´m talking about the action of the drugs, not about brian himself, which we ALL love.

  • @anitasseo

    I see mate. Peace.

  • The price of genius.

  • I'm SO glad that that is all overwith. Eugene Landy was truly a psychopath practicing as a doctor. Eugene was a nutjob.

  • nothing left of my brain lmao

  • the guy has the brain of a 3 year old...Landy is a piece of crap

  • I got the 88 Brian Wilson solo-album. I noticed that Landy helped him out with lyrics! Yes!

  • Dianne looks hot!!!!!

  • very happy that brian wilson is fine, today.

( when i think in that STUPID period with Landy, that monster, i feel such an anger: i could break DR. Landys face in a min !! )

And, i still dont understand why Mike CRAP Love ( i feel bad feeelings about him; really ) was in the band!! The others ( to protect Brian and the band) should got r of him

But, most important: Brian Wilson is wiser, he learned A LOT in Life. If he was a bright genius, now he is a brighter soul.

  • that last 4 seconds is so sad.

  • @Coldacre

    Sad because ingenious.

  • what a piece of shit that landy asshole was.

  • YUP! GLAD HE"S DEAD NOW!!

  • if you want to know the story of brian wilson read "catch a wave" if you want more insight into the landy years read: "wouldnt it be nice" it is pretty amazing how landy saved brians life... BUT landy got greedy and felt brian owed him his life in return for saving it. I dont trust the official beach boys version of events any more than landy... mike love is a whackjob who thinks he can levitate while simultaneously suing brian for being "insane". brian was surrounded by circling sharks.

  • @stumptacular

Yes, Mike Love was the pile of shit on a wonderful beach.

  • @stumptacular

"Brian was surrounded by circling sharks".

I don't think I have ever seen it put more eloquently. Perfect way to describe Brian. Many people hate Brian's dad and he was abusive in ways.... but some of the stronghold he had on Brian was actualy from the fear that someone would befriend Brian and take advantage of Brian's genius and good nature. Murry knew that Brian was gullible and he tried to protect him for a long time.

  • What I`d like to know is if Diane Sawyer can ever speak like a normal human being.

  • Or any reporter, for that matter.

  • No. But I heard she can f*ck real good. Just ask Warren Beatty.

  • @Edhallick Shes wrong when she said that dennis was the only one that surfed they all did some more than others mike said we were more like surfing winos getting drunk and falling off the board

  • Comment removed

  • @Edhallick She always sounds like she is trying to pinch out a deuce that keeps getting stuck.

  • I'm big Brian fan but I've never heard about this guy Land and this therapy. Can read something, somewhere about it??

  • The book Catch A Wave is awesome and has quite a lot about it. Is a good read too.

  • Earth to Embran...wake up! There's been many things written about Dr. Eugene Landy...

  • truly a genius. its so great that he seems to have worked out his many personal demons.

peace, Brian, thanks for the music

  • "I sleep alone when his wifes our chaperone"

I think Landy was very possibly physically/sexually abusing Brian Wilson as well as mentally... look at some of those photos of them practically in each others laps...Landy = G.A.Y. and those lyrics from "sleep alone" seem to be Landy writing lyrics that belittle and embarrass Brian and he was obviously a control freak... its scary. Brian was and is the greatest and wow what an amazing catalog of music. BW is the best

  • i always thought that

  • Man, Brian was really out of his mind. Glad he got back on track.

  • A truly amazing & most revealing interview. It's sad to see Brian in that state he was in at that time .. and it seems certain, from the footage, that he was indeed under the mesmer of that arsehole Landy. When you contrast Brian today with how he was then - one should get down on their knees & give thanks to god, every single day, for Brian's incredible recovery. Now, if only "Sweet Insanity" would be released .. at long last. To sit alongside "That Lucky Old Sun".

  • It's amazing how at the end of this, the *interviewer* is doing him more therapeutic good than all those 9 years with Landy seemed to. "Why don't you see them?" "That's a good question...hmm... never thought about that."

  • Brian had the gift.....why didn't Mike Love think about Brian's sensitivity (usually the price of genius...look at other genius). They (The Beach Boys) should have not let the love of money detract them...let's face it....they were about selling albums....they (the BB minus BW) got caught up in capitalism....be true to your school but also be true to your music......selling out will not help the BB Mike

  • @brahud

Mike was not a cousin. He was a bastard, never rich enough.

    Paolo

  • I for one am tired of people blaming drugs when they talk about Brian Wilson. Jesus people, he was a rock star.

Okay, I will say that much cocaine would mess you up.

  • cocaine is a hell of a drug

  • Do you realize how many drugs he took?He smoked marijuana and cigarettes, used LSD,and abused uppers and downers in the 60's.During the 70's ,he was an alcoholic and abused cocaine heavily. Then,in the 80's, he abused Xanax and other legal prescription drugs thanks to "Dr" Eugene Landy. His brain is totally fried but he's still a genius.

  • Yes from what I read Landy had him on anti-psychotic drugs for years did damage in their own right.

  • I love how this interview,Well atleast this portion of it ended, I pray he did go see them and had a good talk

  • I never understood any of your comments till around 6 minutes. What a scumbag that Landy was,He stole Brian Wilson from te world,Stole his Money and what was left of his sould and self confidnece.

    Mongrel

  • Look, at every adult problem (we all have some) you can almost always point to some situation during the years of early development that caused it. Just read about the terrible beating and humiliations that Brian suffered at the hands of his father Murray. This most probably caused much of Brians paranoia, rather than drugs...

  • This is sad and interesting all at once.

  • Landy's nice and toasty in hell right now.

  • AN ARTIST A CON ARTIST!!

  • this guy is out of his fucking mind

  • Thank you for posting.

  • I hate shrinks to much. It's a fraud profession.

  • well said!!!! its a fake/pseudo profession.

  • F Landy

  • Oh my god that last part was out of control.

"I was just I been I been wait I been wait RIGHT TIME...TO CALL EM!"

  • This is hearbreaking. I love Brian!

  • smiley - Is it true that Brian Wilson once experimented with cannabis?

  • is that a joke?

  • No, why?

  • Brian Wilson smoked so much marijuana in the 1960's and 70's it isn't even funny. He also tried pretty much every drug on earth. But it was the prescription drugs Landy gave to him that "burned his brain out"

  • Should he not now be arrested for his cruel drug offences?

  • cruel???

  • Yes, they are offensive in their illegality. Do you not think that this is a travesty?

  • It's an emotional travesty because the guy was brainwashed and lived a generally messed up life, I don't think taking drugs illegaly is really all that much of a travesty. Obviously if it affects their life in a negative way it's not good but just because it's illegal doesn't make it wrong.

  • Do you think that he should be made aware that it will soon be time for the nettles to sting?

  • Lemme guess, you're a scientologist

  • xxdrew - Why doth you say that?

  • Luckily, the bastard(Landy)is dead now

  • you should not say that,i know he has a lot to answer to but to wish death on someone!

  • The Deach Boys let Brian fall apart for years. Landy was a creep for sure but he did save his life.

  • who are the deach boys

  • Typo. It happens when you have MS.

  • yes, it does. my mother had MS. I wish you the best of luck with that. <3

  • Brian is schizoaffective, bipolar type. I live with the same condition and I can truly say that you are never "fully healthy". But with a relatively mild medication regimen, and psychotherapy, you can live a pretty good life. Illicit drugs are NOT a part of that healing, which Brian struggled with.

  • I'm sorry. I was just trying to make a point in terms of Brian's legacy. My heart broke when I saw him at The Kennedy Center Honors.

  • How dare Landy treat Brian like that.

  • I've learned that you don't have to like an artist to be able to enjoy his work. Wilson, Michael Jackson, Elliott Smith, Curtis, Cobain, I HATE each and every one of them for destroying their lives. The only thing left to remember is that single moment, when they actually had appreciation for something: their music. And why does this always happen in the world of music, and rarely does in film or tv?

  • Wilson has nothing to do with Elliott Smith, Cobain, Michael Jackson. He's a better composer than any of those "songwriters" put together. Also, He didn't ruin his life. Hes fully healthy now and released one of the highest acclaimed albums of all-time in 2004.

  • I didn't say that Wilson had anything to do with them - I said that he also similarly ruined his life (You really think that I thought that Wilson and Cobain had worked together at some point)? I also didn't say that he's at the same level than those other artists. But yes, you are correct, Wilson is getting back on track, especially with 2004's Smile, but I'm still upset at how he brought an end to the Beach Boys... Let's hope he revives it all!

  • You are wrong. Elliott smith is on Brian Wilson's level

  • If you truly believe that, you seriously have no idea about music, and have deluded ideas about music.

  • Brian wilson reminds me of Steve Zissou...Thanx for uploading this!

  • Landy was a prick and an opportunist...HOWEVER

he did save Wilsons life. Landy went TOTALLY overboard and crossed boundries that a doctor shouldn't. His program involving excersize, diet etc was good but he was a meglomaniac and a control freak. AND he had a lousy voice and couldn't sing for shit. LOL Brians deamons were his father and his obligation to his family. They should have let him be...they are ALL involved in his sickness. Mike Love is an IDIOT.

  • Re: "he had a lousy voice and couldn't sing for shit:" I didn't know Landy attempted to sing. Did you hear him? I'm just curious. On the OG pressing of Brian's 1988 album, Landy got a "background vocal" credit on "Rio Grande," but I couldn't tell if Landy was really on that song or not (especially since Brian likes to overdub his own b-ground vocals).

  • Landy is burning in hell right now, right where he belongs.

  • All in all, Brian Wilson will be remembered as one of the most prolific producers and songwriters of all time after he meets his maker. The guy was ahead of his time in both song structure and production technique. Many of the things he was doing back in the 60s is barely even touched upon by todays producers and engineers. Not just a musical genius. But, a genius of the studio, as well.

  • Mike Love once said that "You know, it's hard out here for a pimp" should have been the original lyric for "I Get Around." Haha, look at that clown with his yellow suit. Check out that bling!

  • The end of this interview is especially hard to watch. Brian is really torn up about his isolation from his daughters.

  • Wow Brian Wilson is such a Musical Genius! What puzzles people is that he doesn't even realize it! At least Mike Love does and steals the Beach Boys from him, hehehe what a bald talentless prick raking in all the money!!
