@snip4uumc Can a 7 year old hike to Havasupai? That all depends on the 7 year old. It is 10 miles downhill. The child should be able to walk for an hour without stopping. It also depends on the time of year. It can get over 100 F down there. I went a year ago at the end of April and it was snowing at the trail head when we started and 1/2 hour after we go out.
Thanks for sharing the gorgeous photography. We, in Yosemite National Park, are seeing the start of spring too. Check out our Yosemitevacations channel. Just click on our name below./
One tip if you're planning this hike - no need to carry a lot of food. There are several places to eat in the village. The extra weight in my backpack really slowed me down, and carrying it was completely unnecessary. I'd love to go back - may plan a trip and take my 11-yr old daughter. Be sure to book well in advance as there is usually a waiting list. Namaste!!
@HardyHeaven you have to book this trip? i was thinking of just running it with a few friends. how much is it to go with the guides? and where do i book it
Thanks for the memories. I did this hike in May, 1991, when I was 28 yrs old, and it was wonderful! The water was freezing cold but I couldn't resist getting in. The hike took us about 6 hours but we stopped several times, did sack lunch, etc. I was so sore by the time we got into Supai Village that I could barely walk the addt'l 1, 2 and 3 miles to each respective falls over the next few days. I was still hurting when it was time to hike out but by the time we got back to the rim I was fine!
my dad told me he hiked out here but like ran out of water and food on the way back. and almost died. im glad he made it. he said something about trying to drink water then it being rejected and throwing it back up O.o
I'm 41 and we hiked to the campground on the first day (10 miles), the Colorado River and back (16 mile round trip) on day two, rested on day three, and hiked out on day four. It took less than 4 hours for us to hike out. We carried all our own food and camping gear in and back out. This was at the end of April so heat was not an issue. My hiking partner is 26.
i jiked down to havasupai it was beutiful it was 10 miles it took us 5 am to 9 am not much and mooney falls is great!there are 2 other water splashes waterfalls there great !trip to go!
The honest answer is "it depends." Just figure that it probably takes 50% longer to walk the 10 (12 with switchbacks) miles through the canyon as it would to walk that far in your own neighborhood.
It took me about 4-5 hours when I was 16 and in shape.
I was there in 1974 ... still a fondest memory!
