  • How do you tell the old knife and the updated knife apart?

  • Thanks for all of the great product reviews, big time help on lots of purchases!

  • Dear Sir,

I just made a purchase and am wondering do the latest models wear the black handles? The ones I see in the "fail" videos have some orange on the handle. Just wondering if I made a great purchase or great pain to return experience.... Thanks for all your informative material you shared.

  • @oahu223 , I don't know, did you buy the prodigy model?

    - Adam

  • @Equip2Endure

    Dear Sir,

The only description is the picture which Amazon has changed to the orange tang and the following 31-000751 Bear Grylls

Survival Series Ultimate Knife. No model name is mentioned. Am I in a return situation

Thank you for such a rapid response!!

  • It depends how well you take care of the knife

  • gerber have LIFETIME guarantee .... don't buy fucking chinese replica bro!!!! you save some money but you risk your live in critical survival situation....lol

  • Bear Grylls offers a LIFETIME guarantee on his knives and products!!! I suggest you KEEP all packing and proof of purchase and then Bear Grylls or Gerber have no right to refuse refund or return. this guarantee is stated on the package of all Bear Grylls products!

  • Its a $60 knife... for that price its exceptionally good. If you want a $300 knife.. go buy one.

  • @TheWolfmanG for 60 bucks, I can get a ton of better knives. Gerber needs to stop whoring their garbage steel. For 60 bucks you can get a Helle, which WILL baton a log, and will not break, and will hold it's edge. Gerber is a brand I've trained my ears to not even hear, my eyes to not even see when it comes to consideration about buying a product.

  • il stick to mine Frost Mora

  • Use Cold Steel knife nothing can break it!

  • @454andascythe Sounds to me like you just happen to hate Bear Grylls there fore hate his knife! There is nothing wrong with the BG other then the fact it uses softer metal that doesn't keep it's edge quite as long as let's say an AUS8 blade would. I dont have a problem with mine, yeah I have more expensive knifes, but for the price point you can't complain

  • theres a new one with a metal-bottomcap

  • I like the soundtrack in your video beginning, could you give me the soundtrack name?? please~

  • ok so how did the knife brake?

  • @34comecome , broke in someones hand while they were batoning wood.

    - Adam

  • I'll stick with my Ka-Bar. But I do own and use Gerber products regularly. If they said they'll address it, I believe they will. Good reviews man. Keep em coming.

  • @fearthenightraids , Gerber admitted to the problem and thanked us for bringing it to their attention. Watch the other video were I interview them at Shot Show 2011 in reference to this problem. They also stated the fixed it. Please check your facts before jumping to conclusions. Take care and be safe,

    - Adam

  • @fearthenightraids , Sir, I have never been paid a cent from any company in reference to any product. All equipment given to us by companies to do test and reviews is given away to YouTube subscribers like yourself. We conduct fair and objective reviews and test of outdoor related gear, teach survival and k9 related training, and conduct event coverage and industry interviews. This video is over a year old and content in reference to this topic has been updated. Be safe,

    - Adam

  • @fearthenightraids he removes negative comments all the time

  • @fearthenightraids If you're idea of a quality knife is this thing... we don't even need to take you seriously. These things fly off the shelf because of the name of the asshat on them. Grylls is a tool, and the things he does on his show are for entertainment value... not actual survival education. You do the things he does in the woods alone, and you're going to wind up dead. You want to learn about quality knives... look up Busse Combat.

  • @fearthenightraids use the knife. It's CRAP. I surely don't want something this fragile as a survival knife, meaning my life might depend on it. most of Bear Grylls' endorsed products are crap, as well.

  • The Gerber Knive you held in your hands is made in Portland Oregon USA. However the Bear Grylls one is made in China. That is the PROBLEM. You can't compare Chinese quality with American quality. It will never be the same even though they are both GERBER. I know ,because I have both

  • Survivorman>ManVsWild

  • Not a Gerber fan, SOG has better blades in my opinion, with a comparable price point, thanks for the update, like the channel

  • this cant happen with the german "eickhorn bw 2000" or any other eickhorn.

i use anyway 2 knifes, as a second (smallish) knife i got a mora bushcraft survival.

eickhorn is used by many Millitary forces in europe.

  • P.S. Bear Grylls uses the same knife on the show, it's just a solid black and has a custom sheathe for him. No orange or anything.

  • @RubmyEyesRaw Only carries his "ultimate survival knife" on the show he carries a ka-bar IRL.

  • The grip is ambidextrous too.So whether your left or right handed, you can sheathe it either way.

  • @RubmyEyesRaw you mean they make left handed knives now??

  • So bear sells a knife that he never carries on his show...yeah..I wouldn't buy it. And to the other guy below me. If your trying ask if one person sent Adam that PICTURE the answers yes. And if you pay attention he said he got one from someone else also jackass. And you can't fault Adam for doing a straight foward unbiased video on what looks to me like a crap product. Great vid Adam. Keep up the good work.

  • omg one guy sent you a pitcher fuck

  • this is a review that is not funded by a company.......why would try to bash a knife for no reason

people are to willing to buy something that looks cool and not look into it

  • @jmrickets thats what i did, but most people who buy knives for looks probably dont actually use them for survival stuff. i bought a 6 dollar elite forces survival knife cause it looked cool, but im just using it to open crap around the house.

  • @Timebender100

I didn't ask the same question retard. And I was makin a point.

  • does every youtube video need an ad...? and i bet i'll have to decrypt a word to post this aswell

  • @ Crosurvival1994.. just another mindless internet whore who does nothing else and has no life.

  • Gerber hasn't sold a decent knife in 30 years...Grylls will put his name on anything to make a $...You want a real survival knife? Find yourself a Ka-Bar. Preferrably one made before 1970...It's all you will ever need..

  • @Fireworxs2012 i am afraid you are full of shit ka bar is just an overly praised brand because the military used it and bear grylls had always used gerber in man vs wild not because he gets money because he trusts the brand and after the shit you said its safe to say i trust bear grylls over you that was 2 knives i bet those people were stress testing those knives anyway and again fuck ka bar even frost cutlery beats that shit

  • @yuriXdanieru LMAO....boy are you dumb....lol...ok...whatever you say Yuri...too funny...lol..

  • I rather use my Cold Steel Kukri if I need to survive

  • oh dear god we are all gonna die! the pommel broke off of two models! no, i can't use this any more it isn’t in mint condition!

  • Sorry guys I ran out of space to finish. SO!, adding to my comment below, another TRUE survival knife is ESEE knives, also a favorite. The ESEE 4,5,7&9 cannot be beat by anyone.

  • IT IS NOT THE ULTIMATE SURVIVAL KNIFE.PLEASE USE COMMON SENSE.If it has plastic on it,dont buy it.Bear Grylls gets paid a lot of money for the promo of this knife.I am NOT putting down Gerber,I like their products,I own their products.HOWEVER Gerber "like others" use celebs to promote products. The BEST survival knife I have found is Kabar- BK series knives made by Becker knife & tool co.The BK 5 is my favorite. These are R E A L survival knives. Check them out.these are serious knives.Thank You

  • IT HAS A LIFETIME WARANTY

  • Most Gerber knives suck! Doesn't matter what T.V. personality puts their money hungry name on it. I'd rather save up for an ESEE or Becker ( I have both ) and be able to actually depend on it while backpacking or in my backyard.

  • I have this knife and I use it a lot and I have never once had a problem. And if everyone see's this guy said he can't even get his hands on one of these knifes so how does this guy even no the facts?

  • bear smokes pole

  • gerber's mystery steel doesn't hold an edge

  • @dirkshrubb hahaha

  • If ever, we should be thankful of this guy.. He help Gerber improve their knife.. I am happy that I got the good one.. Thanks for raising up the issue..

  • Well if ur in a survival situation hopefully you wont run through the wood beetin your knife on stuff like a wild man. if you really need to hit somethin pick up a sturdy thick stick

  • Audio is hard to hear on this one brotha.

  • I bought one two months ago. I haven't used the bumble. But this is a vid from a year ago so I hope it has been fixed. I will take something else like a small hammer or something in case I do need it.

  • bear grylls i a moron why would anybody buy any piece of survival gear with his name on it..

  • Bear Grylls is a joke. I mean that literally. I watch his show to laugh at him. I can't hate on him because he is genuinely entertaining, but I wouldn't follow his survival advice. He is, to me, ultimate proof of the principle that ''can' doesn't necessarily mean 'should''.

Yeah, you CAN eat all the small animals you catch raw, sure. But why? They taste better and are more nutritious cooked. Sure, you CAN eat chunks out of a bear turd, but why? There are other food sources available!

  • I have that knife and it works fine your just jeulous your retarted knife shop does not have it

  • bear grylls is a flake. the best knife i have used is the Ray mears woodlore knife and Mora do a good knife at the budget end. by the way the ultimate survival knife is the one you have on you at the time,

  • Heyy @rmstudio shut up how old are u!!! 6?!?!?! "my punishment should be that i get thrown out into the cold with the gear I trust" oh noooo.... Wat expecting me to start cry

ing or somethin cause that's is such a punishment....I'm so scared

  • And @dubcrusher wat th heck is amusing I'm confused?? I mean if u go around thinking somethin is a good knife because u can smash the blade against rocks then good for u but don't bitch cause i made a mistake and I already told Adam I'm sorry....

  • i am thinking about getting the new fine edge version of the knife

  • This knife is a piece of junk made in China. Bear Grylls actually uses a $600 custom made knife.

  • SOG Seal Pup, or the regular k-bar are the ultimate best knifes for anything you want to do with them.

  • I use a Military Navy Seals Knife.....Good enough for the most Elite Military branch...good enough for me!....Fuck everything else!

  • @dbugboy1 Gerber admitted to it, and also fixed it. Check out the other videos. The video is over a year old. -Adam

  • @Equip2Endure Dont you just love the people that speak up without having a clue or know the facts.... dbugboy1 your punishment should be to be left out in the cold with the gear you think you can stand behind.

  • @dbugboy1 So amusing...If you own one then the proof is in your hand. Go knock it against something and watch it fall apart. $30-$50 not well spent.

  • @dbugboy1 One more bear grylls's boyfriend..

  • @dbugboy1

Don't tell someone to shut up, and then ask them a question in the same sentannce. Thats makes you sound retarded.

  • maybe it broke because you got Bear Grylls pissed off by pissing on his disk

  • Come on! How that happend, you have to show us...Just a pic? that's it?

    boring video man

  • china made junk

  • @CrazyBeaverify , watch the other videos, I interviewed Gerber at Shot Show and they admitted the problem and was happy that we let them know about. The issues has been resolved as this video is over a year old.

    - Adam

  • @CrazyBeaverify I wish i could mark comments as 'dumb as fuck'

  • @CrazyBeaverify HEY, CAN IT, Merika is No. 1, as voted on by Merikans. dum foreners...lol. seriously though, quit hating on Americans, I notice that you don't mention what country your from, and it probably is NOT a world superpower like America, shove it, man.

  • @CrazyBeaverify what about americans bitch?

  • @CrazyBeaverify

Please, tell me where you are from. I need to make a sarcastic comment, followed by the name of your place of birth with trailing periods after it to show my disapproval of your whole country based on your actions, despite being ignorant, and flat out wrong about my previous, outright stupid statement.

  • bear grills ultimate knife comes with a fire steel fire lighter, serrated edge, very nice sheath and a diamond sharpener, and a whistle

  • the bear grills ultimate knife.

    its v. god

  • im looking for a good hunting/survial knife i have 60$ to spend what would you recammend any comments would be helpful

  • @backwoodshuntin Save your money and get a Fallkniven F1 or drop the hammer now and get a USMC KBar. Then again, it depends on what you're hunting and how you want to survive...

  • I trust only "Made in Germany" "Made in Switzerland" and "Made in Japan" ;D

  • Comment removed

  • it was dumb to buy this knife to begin with. It's marketed to fly off the shelf. The knife is produced to make sales.

  • Why waste time with the knife of that clown? I never will buy one. I have a very serious knife, the ESEE4, and thats really a great and SERIOUS tool for a great price. So guys, dont waste your time with that showmasters stuff if you want something serious.

  • What's with the bass booms in this video? Very annoying.

  • what do you want with a knife? no it does not make coffee, like you US lazy pricks want, but it does do the job. what the fuck fuck do you want? it still works as a knife n it is always handy. stop bitching coz if thats all you have, then thats all YOU HAVE

  • @daddydickmin Alright, alright, we're just giving our opinion, I personally think the hammer idea is great and what you say is valid, I just wouldn't choose a knife that screw up your chances! Besides, all I have is a £10.00 Mora Clipper knife, which is brilliant, costs less than this and probably will last longer. If this is all you have then fairplay.

By the way I'm from the UK and IRELANDISMYCOUNTRY, well he's from Ireland. Lazy US pricks my arse

  • I wouldnt buy anything with Bear Grylls name on it ... end of .

  • Too many features = too many flaws follow the rule of KISS

    K = keep

    I = it

    S = simple

    S = stupid

Another thing, why have holes to lash it to a spear? Instead use the kife to point a stick and the firesteel to make a fire to harden the stick in the fire, then you can actually make a spear! Why potentially break the knife?

    STUPID DESIGNER!

  • @BEFIREFLY I agree with you 100%. STUPID GRYLLS. Instead of using your knowledge he puts forward the use of kit when we all know knowledge is far more important than kit.

  • I'll do a review of the tactical knife and the other knife

  • I need help there is a army surplus store literally right by my neighborhood they sell knives there I already bought a spring assisted USMC tactical knife (great knife). I go camping every year in April what should knife is good for camping?

  • so what your saying Adam is that we should not buy these knives

  • sad people- u faked it and thast like little children

u dont have more pictures than this faked one?

  • sad people- u faked it and thast like little children

  • I like your eddie munster hair cut but I found it distracting. Maybe wear a hat or a beanie like you have on other vids. Informative video thanks.

  • That's all good man, Bear Grylls was ok at one point but he and his knives are cheesy, gaudy and not worth the money! Go buy yourself a real survival knife with some years of use behind it, come on people it's just like going out and buying a Rambo knife and thinking its a good product!!!

  • I dont know if many people are aware, Wal mart keeps its prices lower by stocking factory seconds and overruns. Perhaps a knife purchased from somewhere else would hold up much better. I dont think the knife is at fault so much as the retailer it was obtained from.

  • Do you really think Bear made this product?? NO, they paid him money so they could stamp his NAME on in to sell more. You're a sucker if you buy shit because someone's name is on it.

That's like buying Jordan shoes because you think it will make you DUNK. You could learn how to dunk BAREFOOT if you put the fucking practice and effort into it.

TL;DR = Don't buy shit because someone's name is on it.

  • Any products that it's made in China it's crap, all people know those little yellow communists bastards don't give a shit about quality nor endurance of their products. No need to be a rocket scientist to know that.

  • @GSpeedEmotion thats not entirely true, they are some good blades coming outta china

  • @jbvap yeah like coldsteel gi tanto that is the one prefer and proud to own it

  • By now they must have upgraded the materials by now.

  • @videosbythe5 , They have.

  • dude do you wonder why they invented super glue

  • Mine hasn't had any problems yet. Been used so much I am almost out of the fire steal.

  • i have not had a problem with mine. it works great. and iv used the pummel repeatedly .

  • That is what u get when u buy orange knife lol.

  • It doesn't surprise me. I have had Gerber products not only fail me , but friends and family as well. The last Gerber product I bought was back in the early 1990s, which broke. I have not bought another, nor will I. As for Bear Grylls...come on... this guy is just for entertainment purposes only, not actual survival advice. Gerber thought, and rightly so, it could capitalize on his popularity with the armchair, Metro, pseudo- survivalist out there.

  • @musketeerinfla bear has good survival advise he is not for show u would know that if you watch his show. dock head.

  • this is basically a knife u can buy at walmart ... every time Ive been in the woods I can just use my generic pocket knife and maybe a machete ... Ive been more worried about ticks getting on me than my cheap knife failing and me dying because of it ... weird to see so many people be so critical of a knife ... I wonder how many people die per year because of survival knife failures ... bear haters ...

  • Bear Grylls is a puss. Anyone in the know should know this.

  • @Gizziiusa well obviously hes not gonna do somthin stupid and kill himself, he has a wife and two kids dickhead...

  • Any Bear Grylls product should come with a free room reservation.

    :P

  • I don't expect any folding knife to wit stand being used as a hammer!!

  • @coco4jc its not a folding knife its a fixed blade

  • @mrnaveowns Your right, it looked to me like the base of my folding knife, that threw me off

  • @coco4jc oh okay i wasn't trying to make you look stupid or anything

  • @coco4jc Too bad it's not a folding knife.

  • @coco4jc its not a folding knife

  • @coco4jc its not a folding knife the ultimate knife is not a folding one but some other bear grylls one is but im unsure of the name.

  • @coco4jc its not a folding knife

  • @coco4jc ya dumbass but he marketed it in a vid on his site that showed you can use it for hammering things.

  • @coco4jc it is not a folding, he is talking about the fixed blade.

  • @coco4jc its not a folder its a fixed blade

  • @coco4jc Its not a folding knife dummy...Its a crappy knife without a full tang and the end snaps off because its just plastic underneath. Pure garbage, Its amusing how many people get all defensive over Bear Gryllz when hes just one big fake. All his "ultimate" gear it laughable to anyone who knows the first thing about survival....period. Rather than getting upset that your mancrush misled you, just accept hes a fraud and buy a better knife.

  • faiking

    ti's can't be real

  • if your in canada just go buy one at canadian tire if it break jsut return it and they are gonna give oyu a new one peroid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I will just stick to my AMERICAN MADE (K-BAR) ! Thank You very much !

  • BUT IT IS THE ULTIMATE SURVIVAL KNIFE!! (and heres why..,)

Tool failure FORCES YOU to use hone your skills and therefore YOU BECOME BETTER AT SURVIVING! I haven't tried this knife but still wouldnt buy it but only because ('my') survival skills are better tested by lack of experience or "working" tools. When i go out I bring a supplement of tinned food, lighter, beer,THC,cheap swiss army knife, and a blanket.Everything else i improvise, and here i still am to tell the tale! peace bro :)

  • 20/10/11 they have now fixed this problem ages ago

  • spend your sixty bucks on a bk-2...leave the grylls knives to the children for whom they are intended...

    -dilla

  • i am holding this knife, i love it, cabelas...if you look at the size of the hammer is less then an inch....if you bought the knife as a hammer , well, you should have bought a hammer, i think guys abuse their knifes, and really...how many of us are really ever in a survival situation...survivalist are never in a survival situation because they are prepared way in advance...the knife is 60 dollars so you will get 60 dollars worth of use out of it...see my oregon coast wilderness review of knife

  • @OxiaEMan yes it does.so i put it back on shelf..i bought the buck hoodlum knife instead.which is american made

  • What were you doing with it haha. I've hammered nails with mine etc. It can survive anything as far as my personal experience's go.

  • That wasnt the knife with the pumle. The pumle is black with a flat bottom.

  • We reviewed the BG knife ourselves, cut the handle down the middle to examine the tang and everything. We didn't try to pommel strike boulders with it or anything (people, a knife is for cutting) but it seemed pretty sturdy to us. A lot of steel for the money as long as you're not trying to be a commando or rebuild civilization without hammers. The LMF on the other hand, is THE REAL DEAL.

  • I personally use a 1095 cro-van Ka-Bar, 8in fighting knife. It's a little larger than the USMC version but it suits my needs better. Keep the blade oiled with Rem oil and you're good to go for years and years.

  • well this was some certainly useful information but like with all products some people are gonna get screwed. Maybe some of the people who make these was tired one day and messed up a few. but every product has their duds

  • I am a knife builder, this is a good knife with some errors but good, in 4:06 you show a bad used knife. to broken like this a knife must used very bad, like hatech or something like that, is like Axes used like hammers with the sharp side... bad USER i think.. in the other hand.. we have manofacture failure too. Sorry for my english

  • BG for Broken Gear

  • @SIeepyTyger ...or Bulgaria... :] ...or Bear Grylls.... the knife is amazing.... -_______________- if you dont have it dont say anything cuz the new models dont even have plastic for it to break... they are all made of teh knifes steel and the hammer is attached directly to it so you will have to break the knife itself before you can break the hammer head :)

  • Come on gus, bear grylls is only an extreme wilderness adrenaline junkie, not a real survivalist. What did you really expect? Pssh

  • Dude learn how to use a mic and edit ur sound better.

  • Teddy Bear Grylls. Ray Mears Rules.

  • Whats really upsetting is that there are actually people out there that belive Bear Grylls has ANY idea what hes talking about. I recived survival training in Ranger school, and another U.S. Army SOCOM group. If you follow this fools advice in a serious survival situation YOU ARE GOING TO DIE !!!!!! There is REAL information aplenty out there. Seek it out before you venture into a place that can put you in a real survival situation.

  • @MrDavidboggs Tell me one example that his advice would get me killed

  • lol@ all the bear nuthuggers.

  • never gonna buy one.

  • Maxim reviews are likely biased due to advertising/revenue. Just like many other magazines. I wouldn't trust maxim for outdoor gear reviews. Just promoting their advertiser's agenda. E2E is a much better review source.

  • A an over-priced toy, for chumps. High margin. Marketing is their main cost.

  • heres a hint ppl, dont buy items your life depends on that has a celebritys name on it, save your money and get a mora, nuff said

  • my tip of the Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife tip broke off this week end

  • had mine for 2 months now and put it through all sorts of distress and its all good knife is a goodn

  • something endorsed by Bear Grylls what do you expect

  • Shop smart

    Shop efficient
