su registro fué excepcional. En época de Beniamino Gigli, eran los dos extremos. Voz grande, Beniamino, voz chquita y amplia, Tito Schipa. Los si, los daba sin, aparentmente , ningún esfuerzo.

Es notable observar que TITO SCHIPA sube medio tono para llegar a un si bemol lo que fue escrito para llegar a un la! Es un alarde que embellece a su aguda voz la maestrìa de las filigranas anteriores, de las notas que ahora màs agudas, engalanan sus cualidades vocales.

@3238867p Exactamente, la grabación fue acelerada un poco, por eso todos los instrumentos subieron medio tono :) También podrás darte cuenta que la voz se escucha un poco más fina, por la misma razón ;)

I think is poor logic to say that because he is not shouting like nowadays tenors he did not have a big voice. He understood the essence of music and was able to express it as no other tenor I have ever heard. One understands why opera was so much popular in the days of Schippa than today when relatively few opera singers can really sing.

He and Giuseppe De Luca are both 'real' singers - the perfect balance of technique and emotion into their recordings. The only problem was that neither could really be heard over an orchestra, explaining why neither have widespread recognition in modern times. Youtube is an excellent vessel for introducing people to such forgotten masters of the art.

What evidence have you for saying Schipa could not be heard over an orchestra? How come he was one of the most popular tenors of his day? I have heard plenty of other people say he did not have a big voice, but had a timbre that projected well and was perfectly audible

Certe inflessioni veristiche di Schipa, che riducono la qualità delle sue interpretazioni, sono da mettere in conto, date le influenze culturali dell'epoca. In sostanza però, Schipa era maestro nel cantare "leggero": non forzava mai i suoni; cantava a " fior di labbra", e, In tal modo, costruiva un perfetto passaggio di registro e quindi il "legato", questo sconosciuto!

Schipa riusciva a cantare tutto con quella voce e quella tecnica! Forse avrebbero dovuto inventare qualcosa di marziano per metterlo in difficoltà. I tenorazzi di oggi non riuscirebbero a cantare sulle labbra manco una ninna nanna, figuriamoci un'aria così imponente come fa Schipa.. e lui ci riesce!!

Non esiste nessun tenore e non è mai esistito nessuno capace di gestire in maniera così' miracolosa il volume della voce...non direi affatto che è fuori repertorio....

Nessuno sta mettendo neppure lontanamente in discussione la grandezza di questo tenore ma che la sua non fosse una voce adatta al repertorio pucciniano mi sembra, in tutta sincerità, abbastanza palese. Per " Tosca " occorrono voci lirico-spinte o drammatiche ( stile Corelli, tanto per fare un esempio ) e quella di T. Schipa era una voce leggera. Saluti.

Un tenorino che strappa il primato d'esecuzione di quest'aria a tutti i tenoroni...Schipa è bravo in assoluto!Notare la miracolosa filatura e la mezzavoce che oggi praticamente più nessuno sa eseguire,al limite,quando ci provano,barano ricorrendo al falsetto.

tenorino si fa per dire...ho conosciuto vari cantanti che lo ascoltarono dal vivo: quando cantava a caracalla la traviata (la vecchia caracalla...quella tra i ruderi) lo sentivano fino al colosseo...tanto tenorino non era...certo non lo si può confrontare alla voce di caruso..

If I may be pedantic, I am fairly sure that this is playing too fast: Schipa takes a final Bb with remarkable ease in an aria that is only written as high as A. In fact, he tended to transpose down because dramatic high notes were difficult for him.
